This does put the lack of training in perspective. My sympathies to Kelly - I lost my Dad this year too. xx

Tigerschick · 29/11/2007 14:45

So sorry to hear that, ChipButty, and to hear about Kelly's dad. It does put things into perspective, and not only with regards to their performance and attitudes last week.
I agree that it is good that they didn't try and play on it but also, if they want people to make allowances then they need to let them know that there are other contributing factors. I don't mean us, I mean the judges and producers, that way they wouldn't have got the savaging that they got on Saturday night.

tortoiseSHELL · 29/11/2007 14:48

I think that it is a perfect example of why being needlessly rude to anyone is unacceptable - even if there hadn't been mitigating circumstances I think Arlene and Len were disgraceful in the way they spoke to them. They are there to give a critique, not to yell at the contestants because it makes 'good tv'. You never know what is going on in someone's private life. The judges could just have said 'not great, not good choreography, not up to your previous standard' rather than the terribly rude 'YOU. LISTEN TO HIM' etc.

Chipbutty, so sorry to hear you have had a loss this year as well.

Tigerschick · 29/11/2007 15:26

Totally agree Tortoise.
But just because you and I, and I'm sure an awful lot of folk, think like that, it did happen and it might well not have done if they had told the powers that be in the program.
I'm not saying that they got what they deserved, far from it.

bossybritches · 29/11/2007 17:08

I wonder if they saw something on video that made them cross (ie Kelly being particularly lippy & not listening to Brendan ) that we didn't see.

Len is usually very constructive.

noddyholder · 29/11/2007 17:09

I love this show and am so excited about them doing 2 dances on saturday I can't tell you. When did I get so boring?

NAB3littlemonkeys · 29/11/2007 17:18

I love it too

bossybritches · 29/11/2007 17:18

about the same time as the rest of us Noddy!!

MARGOsBeenPlayingWithMyNooNoo · 29/11/2007 22:04

V. sad for Kelly. I wouldn't think any worse of her if she pulled out now, she has dealt with this admirably. At least she has had the opportunity to be in the UK whilst her dad was so ill.

bossybritches · 29/11/2007 23:10

Margo you're right she's not my fav but it must've been awful for her. On ITT tonight Claudia said Kelly was dancing for her Dad on Saturday- hope she can hold it together.

MARGOsBeenPlayingWithMyNooNoo · 29/11/2007 23:11

I saw it too. I'm glad Claudia said something.

bossybritches · 29/11/2007 23:20

Yes I wonder how bad do Len & Arlene feel?

Mind you I still think they see a lot more footage of them training than we do so they probably get cross as she has so much potential.

Still want Aleysha to win though!

ruty · 30/11/2007 09:42

feel terribly sorry for Kelly - she has obviously been dealing with it all very bravely. I lost my mum this summer so much sympathy for her. I do however think this may take her to the final - obviously no consolation for losing her dad, but it is the way these things work.

tortoiseSHELL · 30/11/2007 10:38

I'm not a KB fan, but when I heard this I thought how dignified she was last Saturday, because she didn't try to make excuses or anything, and being yelled at like that was unacceptable, but must still have really stung - Arlene saying 'you have to put the hours in' etc.

bossybritches · 30/11/2007 10:39

Yes it could be the spur she needs to push herself a bit more-it's going to be a close one this year isn't it?

Oblomov · 30/11/2007 11:14

Kelly pull out becasue of her dad ? Wake up guys. She is going to milk this for everything its worth.

MerryAnnSinglemas · 30/11/2007 11:15

that's a mean thought

tortoiseSHELL · 30/11/2007 11:17

That's really unfair oblomov - especially given the provocation last week and she DIDN'T use it as an excuse.

Oblomov · 30/11/2007 11:18

Kellys dad only died a few days ago. She was, not putting in the hours last week, becasue she had 'other professional commitments', like launching her own perfume Nothing to do with her dad. He had not passed away at that point.

Oblomov · 30/11/2007 11:20

Yo guys are too nice. And naieve about how showbusiness works and how driven she is. Don't get me wrong. I have every sympathy for anoyone who loses a parent. But right away, she was back, saying "I'm going to do it, for my Dad, it's what he would have wanted". And I don't doubt that. But come on, talk about milking the situation.
Don't paint me out to be insensitive, becasue thats not what I am saying.

tortoiseSHELL · 30/11/2007 11:24

I know he died on Monday, after the Saturday show. But taking a show like X-factor as an example, the fact that he was seriously ill (and she must have known on Saturday that time was very short) would have been the focus on that person. Whereas KB had not mentioned it AT ALL. And Brendan Cole was clearly dying to say more, but I guess had been asked not to.

And I would have thought that she would have less time before he died, because of spending time with him tbh.

Just don't think it's nice to criticise someone like that when they've suffered the loss of a much loved parent. If she was trying to milk the situation the story would have been 'leaked' to the press earlier (Kelly's dying dad's wish to see her crowned SCD champion etc). Which it hasn't been.

bossybritches · 30/11/2007 11:24

Well we all deal with things in different ways don't we & if she feels she can get on by milking the situation she's certainly hard-nosed enough to do it!

tortoiseSHELL · 30/11/2007 11:27

AND there's nothing wrong in being driven - there's no crime in entering a competition and wanting to do well, or to want to succeed in a career. There is a real mentality of criticising any woman who wants to succeed in something, a man would be described as 'ambitious' a woman as 'self-promoting'.

Oblomov · 30/11/2007 11:28

I didn't think it was mean.
Harsh but fair.
