Heigl wasn't nominated for an Emmy. She declined to submit her name for consideration (basically you don't just do acting and hope someone notices, you have to submit an episode that you feel showcases your work. This is why you can sometimes see supporting characters play a bigger role in one episode, it's to give them awards material (and something more fun to do that standing around asking all the explanatory questions on behalf of the audience, like poor Donna had to do in The West Wing). I like the 911 Begins episodes for this reason as it gives each member of the cast centre stage.

Anyway, Heigl declined to submit an episode, saying she didn't think she had been given any material that warranted a nomination. Still a rather pointed attack on the producers but not quite as bad as turning down a nomination.

Also feeling very tired of Grey's. I think it's time to end it.

DanniArthur · 26/06/2020 21:34

Just discovered this thread! I feel the same way about Grey's anatomy getting a bit flat now. It seems like the writers have ran out of material and are working really hard to get us invested in S19, which I do watch when I remember but I'm certainly not that big a fan. I really cant warm to any of the new interns or even care about Teddy, Hunt and Amelia. Even the incident at the pub was a bit of a let down because I didnt care if any of the interns died and schmitt just annoys the hell out of me. That episode with his uncle dying ans him wrapping the body with his uncles gay lover was so trying to hard to be touching that it became tedious.

Papergirl1968 · 27/06/2020 00:42

Thanks, Shadow.
If I’ve interpreted that right, Brody appeared a fair bit in season 13 but only once in 14 and once in 15, then a lot in the current season.
Interesting that her first appearance was a different actress.
I watched the first few seasons but then missed a couple a few years back - could well have been 12 and 13 or 13 and 14. I have them on DVD to watch from the start one day.
Anyone else really feel like slapping Teddy this week? Poor Owen.
Link, with his plasticy Barbie’s Ken face, gives me the heebie jeebies. As does Tom.
Billionaire rocket guy was presumably based on Elon Musk.

SleepingStandingUp · 29/06/2020 10:37

I felt like that about Link but I'm warming to him more and really want him and A to be happy with baby. Hunt was better with Sandra Oh, really don't like all this flip flopping between women Hunt, it's unbecoming.

I don't mind S19 but did they do these flash back on their lives in the other series or is it new? It's quite annoying

SlightyJaded · 29/06/2020 22:28

I've just found this thread so I can complain about Alex's exit. I was so enraged by the whole episode that even the following ep with Amelia and Linc reunited couldn't make up for it. It was lazy and unbelievable. He is not the man that was married to Izzy now. He's grown into a different person and we were sold that. We were persuaded that he and Jo were finally saving each other, so please don't tell me he wouldn't have just asked Jo to move to Kansas so he could be close to his kids. He totally would. I feel cheated.

I agree that much as I love Greys, it's run its course.

It was so good back in the day. For me, the heyday, was when we had McDreamy/McSteamy/Little Grey/Torres/Yang/Arizona/Kepner etc Without them, it feels like Meredith/Bailey/Alex and Webber were holding the show together with a bunch of transient bit parts.

Even Jackson is shit now.

Owen/Teddy/Tom - who cares?
Bailey has become a parody of herself
Webber is a bit sad
Catherine Avery is cold
Maggie is zzzzzz
And the shittest of the shit has to be Schmidt and Nico - I don't believe that relationship (or care about it) for one second.

And I don't want to feel like I am watching a trailer for S19 which is how it's starting to get. I thought I'd missed an episode when Jackson was moaning about Vic staying at his and then moving in with whatshisname. I literally didn't have a clue what he was talking about.

Thank you for letting me moan.

InvisibleWomenMustBeRead · 29/06/2020 22:57

I completely agree @SlightyJaded

WannabeJolie · 30/06/2020 08:17

@SlightyJaded I feel exactly the same. Gone are the old days. It feels like they’ve run out of storylines.

SlightyJaded · 30/06/2020 11:31

They really have run out of ideas.

The episode with Schmidt and his dead uncle was tedious beyond belief. It's like someone in the studio thought they should do a 'token Jewish' episode and that's what they came up with.

We need more interesting medical episodes
More powerful relationship dynamics with long running mini storylines.

I mean, the most interesting thing at the moment in Linc and Amelia and even they 'happened' in about two weeks flat. And since when were Linc and Jo best friends? Since two more weeks.

Also things get dropped now - the teen that was living with Owen and Amelia just got discarded even though they were referring to her as their daughter at one point. People who have been together/married split up based on one disagreement. It's all shit.

To be fair it had gone from essential viewing to binging on four at a time when I had a free evening, but it was good background tv and now it's not even that.

Heygirlheyboy · 30/06/2020 13:44

Linc and Jo have been friends years! They knew each other before he arrived afair.

covetingthepreciousthings · 30/06/2020 15:27

My Dh pointed this out the other night, what happened to Betty (?) ? She just seems to have vanished now..

Did she go to her parents?
Iamblossom · 30/06/2020 16:05

Betty went back to live with her parents.

Iamblossom · 30/06/2020 16:08

@slightlyjaded I felt the same about thinking I had missed a bit about her moving in and then back out of Jackson's apartment, and then I wondered if it was because that was a linked storyline in Station 19, the parallel show about the firefighters that I can't bring myself to be bothered to watch?

SleepingStandingUp · 30/06/2020 16:39

Also a nightmare if you watch out of sync.
I watched her admit to her mates she'd moved in, then them break up, then him bring her bags into the station for a chat.

SlightyJaded · 30/06/2020 17:31

Oh yeah, that's right Betty/Britney left with her parents but left the baby Leo behind. Who has now been confined to a life of forever existing in the Grey Sloan Memorial Creche...

WannabeJolie · 02/07/2020 14:13

So this week they’ve got the person who held up that army store in Station 19. It’s like they can’t even be bothered to think of new characters.

What’s up with DeLuca? I hate that they’ve changed his character. I also hate Mer’s hair in that plait, which I know is a minor point.

Another total snooze fest of an episode.

covetingthepreciousthings · 02/07/2020 14:54

Grin
covetingthepreciousthings · 02/07/2020 14:56

What’s up with DeLuca?

What happened with his dad? Did his dad have a condition that has now been passed down to DeLuca? I can't remember now.

WannabeJolie · 02/07/2020 15:34

I think his dad had bipolar or something similar but I hate how he’s all of a sudden he’s changed. I never thought I’d like Tom but I kinda do. I will thank Greys though as I’ve collected some great songs over time thanks to them.

Me too! Some great tunes!
Heygirlheyboy · 02/07/2020 22:49

So frustrating about de Luca, he has been right every time!! It's as if they're gaslighting him into it! Bailey saw the 'aunt' was shifty, easy to probe a little further.. Grrrr..

Papergirl1968 · 02/07/2020 23:41

I thought that episode was better than recent ones.
I love Mer’s hair in that plait!

vjg13 · 03/07/2020 08:15

I thought it was better too. I like the way the junior Dr who is Mer's superfan was trying to do the same hair style!

Mrsemcgregor · 03/07/2020 15:41

I’ve noticed it’s become at least 2 seasons of political agenda. I like the message and think it’s important and makes me feel very lucky for the NHS. But it’s like a big hammering over the head with it every single episode. Yes American healthcare is fucked, but please can we have a storyline to get our teeth into?!

The De-Luka scene at the end was echoing a Derek scene from many many years ago, he was taking huge risks driving very fast in his fancy sports car. I think possibly after the Hospital shootings when he was shot and might not get movement back in his arm? Did that happen?!

WannabeJolie · 03/07/2020 16:18

Oh god yeah I remember that. Met bailing him out of jail.
