Yes - DH said exactly that - cross between Ramsay's Kitchen Nightmares and The Apprentice. That Jackie () is really annoying, isn't she (it's not me, honest).

MaryAnnSingleton · 29/08/2007 21:09

and he's an arrogant short arse

JackieNo · 29/08/2007 21:11

He didn't bother me so much - it's her voice, I'm afraid, and 'wackiness'.

MaryAnnSingleton · 29/08/2007 21:13

yes, agree - she;s the really irritating one
they must all be quite mad though,to want to run a restaurant - looks as though it's a terrible job

Incredibly hard work. Stick to eating out at them, I say (not that we ever do these days, unless you count Starbucks).

Lilliput · 29/08/2007 22:15

It can be a bloody awful job but really rewarding when you get it right. My dh and I have run a small restaurant for 6 years and are packing it in in four weeks time because it is such hard work. My dh works a 15 hour day aat the moment and we decided to give it up because our dd has started school and as we only close on a monday dh would only see her from after school on monday until bedtime. 4 hours a week!!!!
I watched the whole programme through my fingers, they really didn't have a clue, it was painful. I am constantly baffled by the number of people who have fantasies about having their own restaurant. It is not just a little bit of cooking, swanning about the customers and buying your friends drinks. AAAARRRGGGGGGGHHHHHHH!!!
That said I will probably watch the whole thing.

JackieNo · 29/08/2007 22:18

I know that the whole 'in at the deep end' thing is kind of the whole point of this programme, but it amazes me too that people who want to run a restaurant don't go and get some experience of actually working in one before they start to try to run one themselves - to get to grips with how things work.

Lilliput · 29/08/2007 22:23

The actress and jazz couple quite obviously bought quite a lot of prep stuff from Asda FFS. I really hope they get booted off tomorrow, they just want somewhere he can get his jazz band a permanent gig.

CissyCharlton · 29/08/2007 22:26

I couldn't believe how the drummer guy spoke to the agency on the phone. He was slagging off the quality of the candidate while the poor bloke was sitting in the same room. How incrediably arrogant and rude!

JackieNo · 29/08/2007 22:28

Ah - I missed the first part, so didn't see that bit. How rude.

Lilliput · 29/08/2007 22:29

He still employed him, I spotted him in the kitchen on the opening night! Great managemant that!

iloverosycheeks · 29/08/2007 22:34

my friends cousin is on this, I always said that if i watched reality tv for long enough i would eventually know someone!! they dont last long though...

MrsCellophane · 29/08/2007 22:34

Well observed Lilliput - I missed that! Yes, I really felt for the guy, having to listen to that conversation.

Lilliput · 29/08/2007 22:37

OOH which one?

iloverosycheeks · 29/08/2007 22:40

scottish one with attitude!!!

MaryAnnSingleton · 30/08/2007 10:23

oh dear, I'm going to be sucked into this programme !
Lilliput - am full of admiration for you and your restaurant - such hard work ! Did you ever watch the John Burton Race programme about his starting up the restaurant in Dartmouth - obviously he has a fair bit of money and experience behind him - was fascinating.

Apprentice with Food indeed, Mary Ann - that's exactly how I described it. That it's on again tonight, is what's keeping me going today. Sad life that I lead...

MrsCellophane · 30/08/2007 16:45

(BTW, How's the chat show going, Mary Ann?)

MaryAnnSingleton · 30/08/2007 17:42

Is Mary Ann in the new Armistead Maupin do you know ?

MaryAnnSingleton · 30/08/2007 21:00

Lilliput · 30/08/2007 21:02

His attitude sucked and saying he was missing his family was a little lame. But their client was a bitch! Big parties are a nightmare.

MaryAnnSingleton · 30/08/2007 21:04

yes, she was a bit difficult ! he was so rude though

Lilliput · 30/08/2007 21:05

The John Burton Race programme was scarey because it involved so much money putting his home and family at finacial risk but I guess it paid off. We opened our restaurant on a budget, we are talking ikea tables. JBR's wife spent money like it was water.

MaryAnnSingleton · 30/08/2007 21:06

do you remember her crushed glass in the paint walls ?

MrsCellophane · 31/08/2007 08:19

MAS - sorry, not read the new book yet. Only just finished the others!

Re Jade and Chris - I reckon he was saving face, as he knew he was on his way. Glad to see the back of his dour face!
