Anyone watch The Restaurant - You're Fried (sic) on BBC3 afterwards? Chris was really on the defensive, and jade was giving out this horrible loud laugh, as if she was really nervous.

Lilliput - srry to hear you are giving it up. if I had ever got my act together, I had planned on coming to try your place out! My mum and dad have eaten there and had said good things bout it.

What are you planning on doing instead?

i love this too, bet the dull couple are out next. the irritating actress/jazz drummer (o how i loathe jazz) are compellingly vile.

What channel? Sounds great

I watched both programmes, but found myself increasingly irritated with it. First the "you only have a week to get your restaurant up and running". Why? Just to get the people stressed so we can watch them crying and arguing because that's more interesting than watching them actually learn how to run a restaurant? And then they seemed to give the impression that the challenge started the day after opening. Well what happens to their businesses while they're all off doing the challenge? Are they opening a new business only to close it for a couple of nights? And he expects them to keep full bookings on that?? And the editing - a shot of people going to "meet RB", but when they're shown with him they're wearing totally different outfits. And are they really working all over the place under extreme time pressures, but still living in the communal house. Really? Like the guy who left last night said he was totaly unprepared for the homesickness. If the show is to be believed they'd been down there less than a fortnight; I'm sure he's been away from home longer than that in the past.
It's not a bad concept, but it's like someone presented the idea and BBC2 said "Like it. But how do we make sure we get ratings. I know, The Apprentice did well, so we'll take lots of bits of that and shove it in, regardless of if it works" right down to the incidental blooming music! I think they should have left The Apprentice as The Apprentice, and done this as its own show, I think it would have been better that way.

Having said that, I dare say I'll watch the whole series and be totally hooked just the same ! And I think the right couple left last night. I hope the Ghanian couple do ok, the food sounds lovely!

GloriaMumble · 01/09/2007 09:04

I would have been really interested to see some disussion as to how the judges would have dealt with the event organiser from hell woman - particularly the tables and chairs issue - surely its not reasonable to hire a restaurant for an event, not like the furniture and expect the restaurant proprietor to change them at thir own expense?

If that IS reasonable behaviour, looks like I missed a trick when organising my wedding reception!

Also how long is drummer-guy going to get away with disappearing out of the kitchen at the crucial moment? Much as the actor annoys me, she's REALLY carrying him. I expect they'll be in to the end cus they're good tele. Out of the Ghanian couple, she's much better at her role than he is too...

Lilliput · 01/09/2007 11:20

Prettybird - We don't know what we are going to do yet. Dh really needs some time off, he is absolutely shattered. He's working such long hours at the moment because we are full every night as people desperately try to get a table before we close. He quite literally couldn't get out of bed yesterday morning. He needs time off to think about his next move, at the moment he can only concentrate on getting to the end of september. I know I sound a little woe is me but running a restaurant is not easy which why this programme makes me laugh. One of the women is pregnant, how on earth is she going to cope with a newborn and a restaurant?

MaryAnnSingleton · 01/09/2007 11:48

gosh,Lilliput, it does sound as though it is a very gruelling job - your poor dh. Lots of luck with whatever venture you try next.
Agree with all 2Happy says. Was it on last night (Friday) then ??

MAS - I think it's only on on a weds and thurs
Lilliput - good luck to you and dh, hope things work out for you. I have only experienced the catering industry as a waitress in my year off between school and uni, and then in uni hols, but it was more than enough to convince me that it is incredibly hard, demanding work. No sooner do you finish one service than you start the next. There's just no time off. Really hope something more family-friendly turns up for you both.

MaryAnnSingleton · 06/09/2007 09:19

Sam and Jackie are totally useless and dreadful, him especially.

OP posts:
2Happy · 06/09/2007 15:51

He is terrible- the way he fired his sous-chef!
It's got to be them, or the freaky mum and son pair that go tonight.

MaryAnnSingleton · 06/09/2007 16:52

oh yes - they are freaky ! I like the twins and the Ghanaian couple

OP posts:
GloriaMumble · 06/09/2007 18:52

I reckon it'll be Sam and Jacky tonight - Raymond looked in that direction when he did the "you're fired" bit. Will be cringe-making tonight seeing him trying to manage without his sous-chef.

Whizzz · 06/09/2007 18:53

I'm loving this - can't stand the squeaky voiced american & drummer-chef - surely they mustgo tonight.

bagpuss · 06/09/2007 20:32

Whizzz, dh is getting seriously annoyed at the television at present because of them . 'tis great telly though.

Bewilderbeast · 06/09/2007 20:33

Whizz I totally agree with you, he is so wet and her voice makes me want to throw things at the telly

MaryAnnSingleton · 06/09/2007 20:43

and they can't walk anywhere without holding on to each other

OP posts:
Whizzz · 06/09/2007 20:57

Hooray ! No more simpering couple

RTKangaMummy · 06/09/2007 21:03

Thank goodness they have gone !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
