I've just started watching Home and Away on amazon prime from the very first episode (way back.. 1987)
Just wondering if there is anyone else watching as my whole family are taking the mick out of me but I want to discuss it with someone.
I have to say I'm hooked... Yeah its a bit hammy etc but there's good storylines great characters and for its time covered a wide range of hard hitting issues.. Ie domestic violence, sexual assault (there is the odd dodgy thing that they wouldn't get away with nowadays.. But it's of its time I guess in some ways)
Plus I have something of a bit of a crush on Alf Stewart 😳. To be fair he is like 2 years younger than my husband in the first series!

Blimey, you have a good ten years of tv watching to get through that. And there’s me worried that watching ER from the start might be too much.

I might check out an old episode of home and away for a bit of nostalgia.

peanutfoldover · 11/01/2020 21:18

I WATCHED it from the beginning, but first time round when it was on telly after school!! Lol

Lots of milkshakes in the cafe and Pippa with all he foster kids!

sparklefarts · 11/01/2020 21:27

Oh my god, hello!! Me!

My husband laughed when I showed him this, I had to convince him it wasn't me who posted Grin

hayser33 · 11/01/2020 21:39

Yay I'm not the only one.
I'm hooked on it, there's 200 episodes a series so I think it will take me a good few years to get through.
I'm just enjoying it it's just really easy to watch, and I guess it's no different to watching an old film... Sort of Grin

And the fashion is really in at the moment. I find myself looking at some of the outfits thinking... I could wear them now Grin

Shock but how often are you watching an episode?! Isn't home and away on five nights a week? Aren't they still making it? You're never going to catch up! This has made me profoundly anxious, OP!

Awrite · 11/01/2020 22:00

I remember watching the very first episode. Did Bobby and Carly have a fight on the front lawn?
Or, am I misremembering.

I watched it for years. Loved it.

I shall check in out tomorrow.

Schoolchoicesucks · 11/01/2020 22:04

This has made me so happy. I am optimistic I can get the kids watching it. Would love for them to be excited to watch an episode after school every day.

Moltonhandwash · 11/01/2020 22:16

Omg I can’t cope with the nostalgia

hayser33 · 11/01/2020 22:36

Well i can get through a few episodes a day.. They are only 22 mins an episode. I have it on when doing the housework or cooking the tea or when getting ready for work In the morning.. Its very easy watching. I can't think long term of how long it will take me or I get anxious myself Grin I just love it.. All my family and friends are mocking me relentlessly

Oh hayser thank you, thank you! Just what I needed - lovely comforting nostalgic telly Smile. I've just watched 4 episodes back to back, reminds me of getting in from school and watching with my mum and little sis before tea. I don't think I ever saw the very first episode with the background of why the Fletchers moved from the city to Summer Bay and it was wonderful. All my old friends, Carly, Sally, Steven. I'm so happy Grin. I don't know why I never fancied him back in the day but Frank was quite cute looking wasn't he??! I have to admit now though that Tom Fletcher and Donald Fisher are both rather handsome please don't tell my 14 year old self that I grew up to fancy Donald Fisher Blush. I only vaguely remember the original Pippa but she is marvellous - she and Tom were wonderful warm parents weren't they?

What would make life complete now would be for a Neighbours re-run from the beginning too. I've watched a few of the very old episodes on YouTube and they are also wonderful Smile

Verily1 · 11/01/2020 23:10

I have to find this and give it a try.

I had the movie which was the long first episode which introduced everyone.

Op I assume you know the spoilers eg about who bobby’s real dad is??

Fishcakey · 12/01/2020 08:58

I had no idea this was on there! Thank you! Now we just need the original Neighbours and we are sorted!

Awrite · 12/01/2020 10:03

Just started it - sang every word of the theme song. Every word.

Don't remember the city stuff, but jeez - I know every one of those foster kids and I loved original Pippa.

Alf's just arrived on screen. Yay!

hayser33 · 12/01/2020 10:39

I read that the original pippa left as she didn't like working without the guy who played Tom(he was killed off In a car crash) I reemeber her 2nd husband Micheal I remember he was killed off too.. Poor Pippa.
I forgot how nasty Alf's daughter Roo was as well she was so mean to Ailsa.
Great show I'm glad there are others watching now Grin

I've got a vague recollections of Bobby's real father (I think he may of been played by Jason Donovans father??)

leccybill · 12/01/2020 10:43

hayser33 · 12/01/2020 12:15

OP posts:
Skyejuly · 12/01/2020 12:16

hayser33 · 12/01/2020 13:08

OP posts:
Steala · 12/01/2020 13:50

Oh, I'm so tempted! I'd love to revisit old Neighbours too:Scott, Charlene, Clive, plain Jane superbrain.

Awrite · 12/01/2020 14:13

Yes!!! My memory from 32 years ago is correct - Bobby and Carly do fight on the lawn in the first episode. Proud.

hayser33 · 12/01/2020 14:18

Awrite so do you think you will watch more Grin
