My mum is paying for me to have Sky Plus for my birthday (thanks Mum!) - we already have Sky.

What do you think of it?

Sky plus is brilliant. Yo will never need a video recorder again (if you still use one!) Its great because if you want to watch a film or anything but are too busy you can just pause the programme and start watching it when you have time. I also like the fact that if you are watching something and missed it (ie son and husband find very useful during footie matches) you can just rewind, pause watch over and over whtever you desire. Enjoy!

battlestar · 29/08/2007 11:25

brilliatn. you need never watch another ad again.
i dont remember watching live tv since havng got this

MrsBadger · 29/08/2007 11:26

we have Freeview Plus (if that makes sense) ie a box that does the same recording / pausing etc stuff just without the Sky channels

it is ace

BandofMothers · 29/08/2007 11:27

DH wants to get it.

Can you record something while you watch something else?

artichokes · 29/08/2007 11:27

Its fantastic. We never watch crap now as we always have good programmes on our hard drive so don't have to settle for whatever happens to be on. We also never watch adverts.

The series link feature is brilliant and means that with zero effort you track the whole series of a programme. Live pause means that you can start watching a prog five minutes late and then just skip the adverts. We love it.

artichokes · 29/08/2007 11:28

Yes you can record one prog and watch another.

stressteddy · 29/08/2007 11:28

Love it, love it, love it
You lucky thing you sidge. Enjoy your freedom!! You'll be amazed how much it changes how you watch tv
But watch out for the fact that you will want to re-wind everything! I often catch myself thinking in the car "oh, I'll just re-wind that because I didn't quite hear what they said!!"

ChippyMinton · 29/08/2007 11:29

tell me more about your recorder please Mrs B. DH and I were talking about cancelling sky but us ethe sky+ all the time. Need something idiotproof as an alternative.

twinsetandpearls · 29/08/2007 11:30

we are ordering sky plus as everyone I know who has it raves about it. We currently have virgin media with their version and it seems to work when it feels like it but even that I find handy.

MrsBadger · 29/08/2007 11:44

this is ours
but it's been superseded by a new model (same price) thus

callmeovercautious · 29/08/2007 11:48

Have a surf around the net, if you say the right things when you call they will give you a huge discount. When I heard DP on the phone I could have nominated him for an oscar! Basically we called to cancel SKY and said it was because we were going to get freeview and a PVR instead. They offered us a free box and installation of about £50. Since then they have also reduced our monthly subscriptions. We saved about £100 on the list price of the time.

It is fab btw!!!!!!!!!!

Any one with a baby/children will appreciate being able to record/pause like that!

ChippyMinton · 29/08/2007 11:50

Thanks MrsB. I've seen that make mentioned before with good reviews. Another question, if i may - do you need a separate freeview box with it?

Lolly68 · 29/08/2007 12:00

Fab. Be prepared to be sitting in front of the tv all the time!!

Sidge · 29/08/2007 12:02

Looks like a good move then! Cheers for your feedback.

I don't actually watch a lot of telly believe it or not, but that's probably because DH is a total telly hogger! He goes back to sea early next year so the idea is that I can record progs I would otherwise miss (no VCR anymore) and freeze it when the baby kicks off...

Is it easy to use?

lizziemun · 29/08/2007 12:17

It's great you never need to watch an advert again .

maretta · 29/08/2007 12:24

ChippyMinton - you can cancel SKy and keep the sky plus. We have a sky plus box but the only channels we get are the terrestial ones, the extra bbc channels, itv channel and film 4.

We pay £10 month for the sky+ box but nothing else.

If you do do this, download anything you want to keep from yoru hardrive. We had some episodes of teh wiggles recorded for ds off Nick Jnr. As soon as we cancelled the sky package, they switched it off within an hour and we couldn't watch them as they werfen't part of our package. did seem a bit tight.

ChippyMinton · 29/08/2007 12:25

Very simple to use. Either hit the record button when watching something. Or go into the programme guide, highlight programme and hit record. To record a whole series, hit the series link button. Progs you have recorded or will record are shown in a separate menu, set out in the same way as the usual programme guide.

ChippyMinton · 29/08/2007 12:26

thanks maretta, that sound like an option. I am tempted to phone and cancel and see what they say

DANCESwithDumbledore · 29/08/2007 12:29

It is blardy marvellous. Would NEVER be without it now

sockmonkey · 29/08/2007 12:33

It's brilliant. I can't imagine life without it now.

Nip · 29/08/2007 12:49

Its brilliant - I cant believe we didnt get one sooner!

chopster · 29/08/2007 12:51

I love sky plus but have had a lot of problems with the box, it really isn't very reliable, and we are on our second as it is. It's out of the 12 months now, so we can't get it repaired. It freezes up a lot, and often fails.

zephyrcat · 29/08/2007 12:59

Do you have to pay upfront for the box or will they spread the £100 over your bills?

chopster · 29/08/2007 13:36

we got it free on the basis that we went for a more expensive channel package- do they still have that? Might as well pay for the tv rather than for the box.

MrsBadger · 29/08/2007 17:37

(chippy, it has freeview built in)
