Anyone watching this. I can’t see a thread.
Similar format the GBBO I think. Except it’s on the BBC.

I don't get why Oli is still in it. He's average every week.

happyandsingle · 09/02/2020 16:53

Mary berry has come across as a right bitch. She really had it in for katie I don't know why.

SchadenfreudePersonified · 09/02/2020 17:13

I've never understood the love for MB - she's always struck me as one of these people who is all sweetness and light on the surface and a bubbling pot of malice and spite beneath.

But I admit that this is purely a visceral feeling, and apart from occasional snippy comments (where the facade has, INO, cracked) I have no evidence. But she does have her favourites - and non-favourites.

FrancesFlute · 09/02/2020 22:47

I have first hand experience that MB is very nice!
Despite that, agree they are favouring Georgia and Saint Suzie.

SchadenfreudePersonified · 10/02/2020 22:08

I'm liking the show but don't actually like any of the contestants.

Not even Suzie? that gorgeous Irish accent, and her wonderful oath -"Sugar Plum Fairies!" Grin

Marry deffo loves Georgia - and was nasty to Robin - when she turned over his quiche only to find that despite what she said it actually was properly cooked [grin[ . . . her FACE! She could not admit she was wrong.

SchadenfreudePersonified · 10/02/2020 22:09

I don't think Mary favours Suzie - I think Suzie is outstanding!

Gatehouse77 · 11/02/2020 08:01

I'm glad Robin's gone - I didn't rate him much really as they commented on his flavours every week. But, obviously, if he follows a recipe he can produce something good!

I like Sarah and Suzie, enjoy watching Georgia try something different and am going to miss Katie - I felt hers was the most akin to family cooking that I would want to make.

SchadenfreudePersonified · 11/02/2020 09:14

Sarah and Suzie are my favourites, too.

I liked Robin and Katie, but felt that they were floundering so it was probably kinder that they went.

I'm not keen on Georgia and her kidney bean birthday cakes .

Riddleofthesands · 11/02/2020 11:32

I dislike Suzie, constant flapping, stress, talking to herself.

Stellaris22 · 11/02/2020 11:37

I'm not a fan of Suzie. She always tries to do far too much then gets stressed. But never learns and continues to attempt far too much in the time given.

Katinski · 11/02/2020 11:59

I went off MB Big Time when she commented that "Boys will be boys" when Paul Hollywood left his wife for a young girl. And I never regained The Love.

Juliette20 · 13/02/2020 21:55

Oh do fuck off Angela. Paris-Brest is not home cooking. It's specialist patisserie.

Countmeout · 14/02/2020 12:09

I really didn’t think they needed to put Suzie in the cook off but the result was the right one. I though the 2 salads using the tuna were a real cop out.

I'd have nailed the tinned tuna challenge! My arancini balls using tinned tuna are FAB! Not a lot I can boast about, so I'm blowing my trumpet on this oneGrin Learned it when I was au pairing in Italy. If the next challenge is for stuffed peppers I''m gonna make myself a crown out of baking paper and wear it next week - every week for a year, arancini balls on a Friday, stuffed peppers on a Saturday, lunch at Nonna's on a Sunday.I've got it nailedGrinGrinGrin

Stellaris22 · 14/02/2020 16:00

I wasn't surprised that a tin of tuna stumped most of them, most of them looked shocked at being expected to use a cheap ingredient.

jay55 · 14/02/2020 18:18

I was thoroughly disappointed in the tinned tuna challenge.
Despite the comments I bet the sausage rolls and chicken skin canapés would have vanished in minutes at a real drinks party.

Stellaris22 · 14/02/2020 18:56

I would go straight for the chicken skin canapés!

SchadenfreudePersonified · 14/02/2020 20:43

Agree - Suzie actually cooked something, for a start.

Also agree with this - and all of this "must be something you can hold in one hand and eat in two bites . . . Marty, love - I can hold a steak pie in one hand, and probably eat it in two bites. Most people with normal sized mouths can.

I also thought that the judges knew exactly who they were chucking out - the fact that two of them said "We had no idea" suggests to me that they were protesting too much. After all, the round was supposed to be anonymous . . . and no-one's said "we didn't know it was you" in any of the other cook-offs that I can recall.

I think they wanted Oli out - though to be fair, he had reached his natural end - and fiddled the result.

SchadenfreudePersonified · 14/02/2020 20:43

*Mary, love - not Marty, love

No idea where that came from.

ssd · 14/02/2020 20:47

I think Georgia would be great having her own show, she's gorgeous and would appeal to young people and might get them interested in cooking.

Juliette20 · 15/02/2020 04:55

Did he really give them tinned tuna? What a dick that man is, I do hope this programme sees the end of his television career. I nodded off and thought they had been given fresh tuna. I think the tuna challenge was tricky to do something of the level they expect, I mainly just make sandwiches or at a push tuna pasta. I don't really like cooked tuna, but absolutely adore tuna sashimi, so cooking it at all is something of a crime, for me!

Nanamilly · 15/02/2020 05:04

None of them are particularly good cooks and I think the snippy side to Mary is her not being able to hide her all round disappointment.

Stellaris22 · 15/02/2020 07:37

I do think some of the things they do aren't representative of home cooking. I see this as family cooking, so the pie one was good. But I'd like to have seen more of the budget type cooking rather than always using expensive ingredients. Definitely prefer Angela to Mary as a judge, Angela seems fairer with no clear favourites.

SchadenfreudePersonified · 15/02/2020 10:52

I mainly just make sandwiches

That's what I told DH I would have made.

However, he did point out that I would have used nice, seedy bread and proper butter, softened, what with it being a competition and everything.

I've never liked Mary as I've always seen the spiteful side on GBBO, in fact she and Paul put me off the programme for years. Though curiously I tolerate her when she isn't around PH. Angela I respect immensely but I think some of the challenges are a bit daft on here.

I think all the contestants are decent cooks actually, much better and more versatile than on Masterchef or GBBO.
