Just started watching and enjoying it. Anybody else?

OP posts:

He really is so very beautiful. Just finished watching it and I noticed in the last episode he started to lose his mystique...started losing his cool a bit and doing uncharismatic things like walking on treadmill Grin

It did strike me how cult leaders can be so irresistible though, seeing how people (including the viewer) were so utterly drawn to him and hanging off his every word / action.

SPOILERS SPOILERS SPOILERS

I've really enjoyed it - it's well-made, strong characters, and al-mesiah has me fascinated
Now i've always had a soft spot for tomer sisley (playing the israeli agent) from years of living in France, so I was delighted he made it through in one piece.
Felt very sorry for the suicide bomber guy, he didn't deserve that ...

I am with Oak and have a soft spot for Avi. The others are just way too young and dreamy.

I fully expected Jibril and Samer to be a couple they were so tender and beautiful.
Samer reading Little Prince in Arabic made me cry.

Eva gives Jack Ryan a run for his money.

It was hilarious that basically Mitt Romney was the President.

The ending just confirmed what they already said earlier on. What did you see? Do you believe your eyes? We only have a little boy's version of events. We, and Avi, have not seen it happen.
It is part Mentalist, part HyperNormalisation from Adam Curtis. Makes you think.

I loved the whole thing.
The Messiah was delicious but Avi much more my cup of tea, thanks 😁
Also glad about the end, before it was shown I was all noooooooooooo.
This has got so much potential for another series but not sure how the is he/isn’t he could be continued for long.
I was really drawn in. Charismatic people can do that. I completely get how people believe.

Any other John Oliver fans watching this show? I loved seeing the catheter cowboy. www.thewrap.com/catheter-cowboy-john-oliver-hannity-trump-iran/ When they said the President is listening to you, I was howling.

Did they crash land in Algeria

There or possibly Tunisia?

Aridane · 05/02/2020 00:36

Wow - wow - just binge watched over the weekend. Gripping, brave, sensitive & thought provoking . Oh, and boy suicide bomber literally pissing himself with fear

Aridane · 05/02/2020 00:37

Was chemo child not cured then?

JeansNTees · 05/02/2020 00:46

Aridane No but remember he says earlier to the mum I think, that not everyone is supposed to be helped or something along those lines. His plan isn't to change some things? Same as when he shoots the dog that is suffering. The girl has a temporary "cure" from stopping chemo as it was tough on her body.

Aridane · 05/02/2020 07:24

I stumbled across it by accident- watched an episode and was hooked

Is it just the one series?

Much as I would love to see a second season, I think it best to leave it with the hauntingly enigmatic and WTF ending

Aridane · 05/02/2020 07:24

(which I did not see coming)

JeansNTees · 05/02/2020 09:11

I think it has to stop with 1 series, surely! People either believe, or don't, including the viewer. Really interesting that it brings up modern entitlement - of the vicar guy who decides that he should profit from the Messiah as he's helped him, or even that people expect to be cured by the Messiah even if that isn't in the "master plan" so to speak. It reminded me of Ad Vitam on Netflix, about a future world where humans have found a cure for ageing and dying and the effects on young people due to the entitlement of the elders.

@billydilly

Yy, I thought of Mr Eccleston too (very well done, was it really 2002?!)
