No Sheep ShockCan't remember that?!?!

BlueRussianCat · 03/01/2020 17:34

Yes the fish!! Mobi dick lol

A few women have had abortions on EE ( or at least thought about it) Sharon had one when she was with Grant.

Libby had one and Dee was mortified about that.
I guess it's such a tough subject to navigate as they have to try to show both sides of the argument as it's such a divisive subject and difficult to articulate on a drama that's on early evening.
I remember Ronnie going with Danielle to a clinic to have one not realising she would be aborting her own grand child! I can't recall if she went through with it or not but she died tragically on the square anyway!
It has been brought up a lot over the years.
(Giving them contraception advice might be a better idea though lol)
Babies are a tough call as soaps love the whole ' whose the dad ' storylines and the drama of an unwanted pregnancy but grow bored once it's born ( unless it's tragically ill or something that involves a story)
They are then a bit of a pain or just forgotten about.

The80sweregreat · 03/01/2020 17:43

Sharon did trout for Easter dinner ( or some kind of fish like that) then Louise was kidnapped and I then she asked her if she wanted some fish when she got back from being tied up in lorry container after it had sat about for ages.
I remember us all saying that they would have preferred fish n chips from Beale's place instead!

tobee · 03/01/2020 17:49

Didn't Sharon have a termination in US with Chelle? And it was botched so she said she couldn't have kids. Then she got pregnant with Denny (there's bad luck). So double bad luck getting pregnant with Ken sprog.

Was wondering what will happen with Mel's great big villa in Portugal? Will Lisa get it? Mel had brother vicar Alex and a dad in EE at one point. Bit of a shame for Sharon it went through. Would have been a handy destination for her, sprog and kidnapped Denny to hide hang out.

tobee · 03/01/2020 17:50

Yes trout is a one of the many symbols of people being impossibly try hard on EEGrin

SheepSocks · 03/01/2020 17:53

I think they made a point in Ash saying she was Bi. She will probably end up with Max or Jack as they seem to make sure they sleep with all their female neighbours. Dot was probably on safe because she is their step mother.

The80sweregreat · 03/01/2020 17:59

I feel sorry for Sharon, she is a tragic soap character I think. The Mitchell's have really messed up her life over the years. She craves love and affection. She has been through the mill and now she is pregnant again ( not even sure how many months she is!) homeless and having to live with her step sons brother and her once best friend who is back from the dead ( Kathy)! Enough to make anyone depressed. Denny has disowned her too!
Plus her now ex is a an ex drug / drink addict that is a bully. None of it is good! She needs a mumsnet hug.

The80sweregreat · 03/01/2020 18:05

Yes to Ash being chatted up etc by the Branning brothers ! They haven't had a love interest properly for a while and Ruby has made it clear that Max is just a fling / open relationship etc etc. So he can start sniffing about again. His been quiet lately.

Yes I always roll my eyes when there a sneaky shag because you just know it’s going to end up in a pregnancy story of some sort. Soaps rely far too much on two things: pregnancy storylines and abuse storyline. It’s just so bloody lazy. There is a world of inspiration out there for all those writers to create something new but they always trot out the same old shite and it’s usually women getting the rough end of it. They really need to start using their imaginations and earn their salaries.

The80sweregreat · 03/01/2020 18:12

Wire, I do agree with you.

I am hoping they do something new with the Chantelle / Gray storyline and not just kill him off or something predictable or that. It's been done before with little mo and Trevor.

I was thinking that maybe it would emerge that she is the abuser , but I think that ship has sailed now , plus we have seen her being hit and bruises etc : (
They do need new stories but it must be hard as most things have been done over the years.

WireBrushAndDettolMaam · 03/01/2020 18:20

Yes I hope they don’t kill gray off. We need to see some sort of justice. In real life she would leave, possibly report him, he’d take her to court for the kids and harass/intimidate her that way and being a lawyer she’d be too afraid to lose to go against him so she’d drop the charges and probably just move and go into hiding somewhere.

The80sweregreat · 03/01/2020 18:24

It needs to be positive about chan to show that there is life after a bad / abusive marriage. It might give people that are going through it in real life some hope.
I agree that she might decide not to bother as he is a lawyer and she knows she'll lose or he'll just take the kids away or something really horrible like that.

WireBrushAndDettolMaam · 03/01/2020 18:27

There is some current stuff that won’t have been done before. I thought their gangs/knife crime/shakil story was very good. They could do more on Baileys eco activism. Get others involved and make it an ongoing thing- not just a one off nativity in the Vic.

If I look at my local news stories there’s foodbank shortages, lots of stolen dogs, funding cuts everywhere (none of this private hospital room for every patient malarkey! Grin Linda was actually on a shared ward for a change!) gender/self ID issues (although the beeb won’t go there) and like others have said- they need to expand the career opportunities for everyone on the square. All the kids go to school- but no teachers on the square. Who is the current doctor? Childminders. Bus drivers. Social workers.

WireBrushAndDettolMaam · 03/01/2020 18:29

Oh I agree it should be positive to give RL victims some hope. They could arrest him and charge him and actually deal with it properly, get her restraining order etc.

The80sweregreat · 03/01/2020 18:31

Wire, I agree that the story lines are very narrow indeed. They need to think of new things but I guess they think we only like the usual merry go round of affairs and babies and cartoon violence!

SoupDragon · 03/01/2020 18:38

Who is the current doctor?

The woman from the old BT adverts with Kris Marshall 🙂 At least she's Mick's doctor.

WireBrushAndDettolMaam · 03/01/2020 18:42

We need to get to know her better. A new Dr Legg. We should know her name Grin

WireBrushAndDettolMaam · 03/01/2020 18:43

And I’ve just realised we’ve met Ollies teacher but I don’t think she is a regular or lives on the square?

The80sweregreat · 03/01/2020 18:47

They used to have doctors and paramedics and cab owners / social workers on the square years ago. Vincent's mum was a social worker.
I guess it's hard because if they commute to work then they can't be on the square getting shot at or pregnant.
They all need to be / live and work within a few feet of each other most of the time! Lol
This new set they are building might provide a bit more scope. If it ever gets finished.

SoupDragon · 03/01/2020 18:50

The character who turned out to be Cora's firstborn daughter was a local teacher. They generally don't have a variety of occupations living on the square though.

SoupDragon · 03/01/2020 18:51

Adam was a dentist. That's quite exotic for eastenders.

The80sweregreat · 03/01/2020 18:51

Cora's daughter Ava ( ? ) was a teacher and had a good job somewhere nice, but she made the mistake of moving to the square. It went downhill from there and she left!

WireBrushAndDettolMaam · 03/01/2020 18:53

Yes they all meet their downfall once on the square- or they turn out to be a wrong’un like gray/dentist

The80sweregreat · 03/01/2020 18:55

Yes to Adam being a dentist and horrible Gray is a lawyer ( both are never at work , but they are professional careers)
Leo was a trainee lawyer too.
Even super Sonia is a nurse .. although maybe she is a fake one given her recent carry on! She may get found out one day.
They should open a nursery on the square for all the babies!
