Anybody watch Susan Hill's The Ghost Story on C5? I was seriously creeped out watching that & I was watching it alone with the cat for company. 😬
Dh was supposed to watch it with me but fell asleep reading a bedtime story to dc! 🙄If you found the woman in black scary then this is by the same writer & a bit more disturbing.

Anything involving the ghosts of children and old houses are deeply disturbing. Any one else creeped out by it? I'm off to bed with the lights on!

I'm going to watch it tomorrow!

xmassquared · 27/12/2019 10:24

Similar theme to Woman in Black but I was disappointed with them ending.

PrettyPurpleFeather · 27/12/2019 10:27

I don't know how else they could have ended it tbh. I'll have to read the book to see if there are any deviations from the plot. I was so stressed by all the scary music and atmospheric tricks I didn't care by that point anyway!

It was filmed near me they just finished it start of December I started watching it but it was too scary I had to put it offBlush

ShowOfHands · 27/12/2019 10:29

I watched it with DH, fil, bil, SIL and 12yr old dd. And we all found it laughably bad.

PrettyPurpleFeather · 27/12/2019 10:31

Wow! Is that house haunted in real life I wonder? All these old houses have probably witnessed a fair few dramas and if the walls could talk, they'd have a story to tell.

Watch it and let me know what you think.

The book is much better. I couldn’t stand the mumbling and poorly lit scenes.

PrettyPurpleFeather · 27/12/2019 10:31

It must be me then, I am very easily scared!

I don't believe in ghosts but I am so easily spooked I hate suspense

EggysMom · 27/12/2019 10:57

Sorry to disappoint but I found it quite boring. Not spooky at all.

That is where it was filmed,

@PrettyPurpleFeather Haven't read the book and it's probably in it anyway but I was referring to the fate of the protagonist.

I found him very insipid and was willing him to conquer his nightmares, which he never did and just thought his decision was a bit of a cop out. It seemed pointless.

AutumnRose1 · 27/12/2019 11:13

I recorded it

loved the book so hope it doesn't disappoint.

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 27/12/2019 12:39

I'm finding it laughable so far, what a load of nonsense .

Clawdy · 27/12/2019 12:46

I get spooked quite easily, but didn't find this in the least creepy. Very drawn out and repetitive too. That "evil carrying on" ending was rather clichéd, I would have preferred Adam and the little ghost have finished up at the bottom of the lake, with him holding the child in his arms, so they both found redemption. And I really couldn't see why his brother and wife would ever live in a house so full of tragedy!

Katharinblum · 27/12/2019 13:01

I listened to the book on audible and found it really enjoyable, reminded me of m r James. Atmospheric and good character build up. Was looking forward to watching it.
Sadly the tv adaptation is nothing like the book, very disappointing, different part of the country to start with and the house is a white villa in the home counties not a scottish castle. He wasn't having an affair, in fact his lover was an elderly lady. It's like they tried to sex it up to appeal to a bigger audience...

Squoozie · 27/12/2019 13:15

I watched it and found it very boring, predictable and not at all scary.

LondonBus38 · 27/12/2019 13:27

Terrible. No resemblance to the book. The clue is meant to be in the title 'the little hand' - its a thing throughout the story, not some token gesture hand offered up twice.

Even as a standalone drama, ignoring reference to the book it was a bit pants.

Magnificentme · 27/12/2019 13:39

Watched it last night was so disappointed I found it slow and boring

PrettyPurpleFeather · 27/12/2019 14:05

@xmassquared oh I see the fate of Adam, it was shortsighted of him to think that the haunting would stop with him.

I was really looking forward to this but found it very disappointing. Watched the Woman in Black afterwards hoping it was the original but sadly not.

Clawdy · 27/12/2019 19:51

I read the book years ago and can't remember the end. Was it the same story?

zukiecat · 27/12/2019 19:53

Love Dougie Henshall and a good ghost story, but I watched about an hour of this then gave up.

Not in the least bit scary, but neither was The Woman In Black.

Blondeshavemorefun · 27/12/2019 21:42

Not scary

Tho was confused at end

And the boy and mum
