Anyone watching? I'm enjoying it more than I thought I would.

Aaaand episode 6 has borne fruit Grin

IMWang · 23/12/2019 20:01

I really enjoyed the first episode but then by episode 3 I had no idea what was going on! Thought maybe I'd missed some parts so I rewatched them and still had no idea. Carried on watching it (just finished the last episode) and it started to make sense. Glad others agreed it was hard to follow, because I thought I was just thick!

I still really enjoyed it though. Henry Cavill obviously helped Grin

Robin2323 · 24/12/2019 23:06

Binged watched first 3 episodes tonight. Bit violent.
But interesting:)

EnidButton · 24/12/2019 23:54

I'm 10 minutes in. Was putting it off because I was told there was a 'giant spider' in it but it wasn't scary at all so I'm giving it a go.

Henry C is ridiculously good looking isn't he? The growly voice suits him...Xmas Blush

TerribleCustomerCervix · 25/12/2019 00:10

We’re on episode 5 and I can’t keep up with all the fecking different timelines.

I’m enjoying the monster hunting bits, but couldn’t give a shit about the Ciri storyline.

Henry Cavill is so handsome he looks like he’s been carved out of stone. Apparently he’d a massive nerd and was already a huge fan of the video game before he got the part.

Delilah901 · 25/12/2019 10:52

I’m up to episode 4. Wasn’t too sure after the first 2 episodes, but kept trying and the 3rd was better.
I read a lot of fantasy when younger, Gemmell, Feist, Eddings etc. and such stories rarely translate well to tv (other than GoT which isn’t traditional heroic fantasy) but I’ll keep going with the Witcher as the critics reviews have largely been very good.
Cavill didn’t do anything for me to start with but having had a few top less scenes recently, he’s very hunky! And hasn’t shaved his bod which makes a change! Reminded me of Jamie in Outlander.
Will hopefully get onto ep. 5 and 6 tonight.

Wildthyme · 25/12/2019 10:57

It took me a while to figure out the time lines - Ciri is the present whilst Geralt and Yennefer are back story leading up to Ciri's story.

I watched the last episode last night and Noooo, they can't just leave it there. Looking forward to the next season.

Floralmoral · 25/12/2019 11:11

I can’t wait for the next season! I would expect it to be a bit less chaotic in terms of timeline and possibly with better budget.
This season was kind of setting the scene, they seem to have tried to cram everything into 8 episodes. TBH, Sapkowski’s writing was very much the same, the Witcher saga was preceded by some short stories, then you had the saga, even though chronologically the stories (Not all of them anyway) didn’t actually happen before the events described of the saga. Not sure if that makes sense..heavily influenced by Baileys Grin

I’ve only watched up to episode 6 and can see the similarities of game of thrones only in the sense that they are both of the fantasy genre; they are quite different from each other. What I didn’t like in game of thrones hbo series was that it had far too much sexual violence against women dressed up as titillation. I think the Witcher has avoided this. Plenty of boobs flying around but at least it’s consensual (apart from the orgy! Not a good idea to watch with my older teens 😂)
Loving the music, does anyone know if a soundtrack is available?
🎶 Toss a coin to your Witcher, oh valley of plenty...🎶

doadeer · 25/12/2019 13:10

I don't think GOT comparisons are relevant it's a well known book and game series. I think it got stronger as the story arcs converged. The timelines were a bit confusing given the magical folk don't age!

I've started the books last night actually!

bonzo77 · 25/12/2019 14:00

I’m not really watching. DH is and I occasionally glance up and make annoying comments. It’s sort of game of thrones meets wind in the willows with occasional bit of soft porn for good measure.

Findumdum1 · 28/12/2019 02:28

omfg there's different timelines!!??

StreetwiseHercules · 28/12/2019 07:06

It improves as it goes on and is overall quite watchable. The way it’s structures it’s timelines is quite unusual but once you figure that out it sits ok.

I feared at first that it was all just derivative of the fantasy genre but it does some really interesting and original things as it moves along.

RicStar · 28/12/2019 07:30

I liked it. It does take a little while to get into I think and ok it's mostly for Henry Cavil. But it's much much more female friendly from the 8 episodes than GOT which I hated / would not watch. I suspect there wont be much cross over in people liking both shows. I feel like the Witcher fills more a Supernatural shaped space for me. With added grunting and swords.

Awrite · 28/12/2019 12:20

We are 3 episodes in. Loving it.

I felt smug as I worked out the different timelines before dh.

It was Smegesbord or whatever his name is. The sorcerer from episode 1 was quite old but he's younger in Yenefer's timeline. Dh said he wasn't but of course I was right.

Anyway, just starting episode 4 now.

MurrayTheMonk · 28/12/2019 12:31

Watched the first episode. Didn't understand it at all. Grin

Campervan69 · 28/12/2019 23:15

I have just finished it and it all made sense at the end so I'm thinking of watching it all over again. Really enjoyed it and I am a big fan of blonde men with dark features so he is my perfect fantasy lead.

doritosdip · 31/12/2019 20:41

You realise that there are different timelines in episode 4.

I really liked this despite my reservations that it wouldn't measure up to Vikings and GoT.

I'm surprised how good Henry Cavill is.

JamieFraserskiltspeaksout · 01/01/2020 17:06

I feel it's been long enough....I could start watching it again!

leghairdontcare · 01/01/2020 17:17

Im not a game of thrones fan (too violent and didn't enjoy its treatment of women) but I found The Witcher very compelling. I think the different time for each story is very good and comes together nicely. I'm looking forward to Season 2.

Awrite · 01/01/2020 17:57

@JamieFraserskiltspeaksout - I'm definitely going to start watching again. Maybe on Monday. My wee treat for when I get home from work. Smile

JamieFraserskiltspeaksout · 01/01/2020 18:59

Good thinking @ Awrite. Gotta have something to look forward to Grin

colouringinpro · 02/01/2020 01:17

ep4 here. can anyone advise re the timelines?!

RicStar · 02/01/2020 13:10

Just keep watching. It becomes more and more clear - by episode 7/8 everything has been tied up together. But blondie girl storyline is kind of now if you want to think about it like that and the rest of the story is back story. Personally I think the Law of Surprise is HmmHmm but I guess it's just important the Witcher believes in it Grin

Kiki275 · 02/01/2020 13:37

@RicStar I like the law of surprise element, just found the announcement of his surprise a little... convenient (trying not to spoil anything) so I did roll my eyes at that a bit x
