I don't get the Judges Choice picks. I thought they always picked ones that may not have been so good first time round, usually from nearer the start of the series, that have plenty of potential to improve upon, to show how the celebs have progressed.

Yes, I'm glad someone else thought this as I was a bit Hmm at the choices.

Theromanempire · 10/12/2019 16:25

No Couples Choice dances revealed yet?

I agree rumba is a marmite dance but Kelvins was certainly on the better side of male rumbas so I agree that it's not necessarily a didadvantage for him.

Equanimitas · 10/12/2019 16:35

I get the feeling that since her contestant has been voted off, she's pressuring the producers to give her plenty of air time.

I think Katya is just a bloody good dancer, hence being chose to dance with Acosta.

Equanimitas · 10/12/2019 16:43

They usually keep the finalists' choices under wraps till a very late stage, don't they?

GruffaIoCrumble · 10/12/2019 16:58

Rumba - I would have preferred to see Kelvin's tango without the mistake
Quickstep - I would have preferred to see Emma's QS without the mistake
Viennese - I would have preferred to see Karim's Viennese without the mistakes or his samba without panda costume Grin

The judges appear to have just gone for 3 high scoring dances and agreed, not even the earliest ones. I thought the latest dance they would choose would be musicals week, Emma's charleston does seem too recent although Stacey's paso was also much later on and I thought she reprised that in the final?

Not keen on any of the showdance music at all although I can see why they have gone for them. Shout is catchy, Kelvin can reprise some jive and isley brothers his groove, Irving Berlin is up Tony's alley and Emma is going for musical theatre showstopper, Greatest Showman number Karim can do his pirouetting to his heart's content...but all three are going to leave me cold

I would be surprised if Kelvin does not reprise his samba, Emma her viennese (although someone here mentioned quickstep, was that confirmed? if so, kudos to her for picking one she wanted to show she could do right as it was a complete balls up on the night), and Kelvin his tango (except iirc he wasn't keen on that dance)

GruffaIoCrumble · 10/12/2019 16:59

That should of course say Charleston

GruffaIoCrumble · 10/12/2019 17:00

Rumba
Charleston
Quickstep

even!

NumbrrrrrrrrrrrrrrsStation · 10/12/2019 17:01

It looks like the judges want things to go a certain way again this year. Hmm

I not only smell a rodent, I smell shite.

GruffaIoCrumble · 10/12/2019 17:02

Kelvin his samba. Karim his tango
I will stop typ(o)ing now Blush

GruffaIoCrumble · 10/12/2019 17:07

But Kelvin's rumba was popular? and shows he can do a slow number.
Samba will be the crowd pleaser of the night. Freestyle maybe jive-based?
He still has it in the bag,

Emma doing three musical theatre type numbers (be it Marilyn or Send in the clowns as her couple's choice)...little light and shade there, they'll all be the same.

That kind of worked for Ore..singing in the rain, Gershwin musical number but he also had jive so not all three were samey.

GruffaIoCrumble · 10/12/2019 17:14

Stacey's paso done in the final (wk 13) was week 10
Caroline's charleston was week 10
Not sure we have ever had a week 11 repeated a fortnight later

Theromanempire · 10/12/2019 17:16

Yeah, I'm thinking that, based on the song choice, Kelvin's showdance could be a mashup of quickstep and jive which he obviously excelled at - in which case, it would be a total crowd pleaser.

GruffaIoCrumble · 10/12/2019 17:20

Ah quick google...we have, kinda
Both Denise and Kimberly reprised their jive and tango a fortnight later in the week 12 final but in saying that, in week 10 those styles had been performed as fusions not dances in their own right so similar but not identical situation

GruffaIoCrumble · 10/12/2019 17:25

Chelsee did her Shrek jive a fortnight later so there is precedent (that year musicals week was early on and movie week was quarter finals)

digerd · 10/12/2019 18:40

I have been indulging in the You Tube Ballet Don Quixote with Carlos. The energy of that ballet is tremendous. Still prefer Baryshnikov's version, though.
Then I wandered onto the World 2019 Latin competitions with the current champions resigning from competing giving some younger and very dynamic - especially one man I couldn't take my eyes off- couples. Think they were number 20, came 3rd and an eye-catching german couple in 2nd place. Interesting how they are ranked as in tennis players. Odd that the no 1 and 1st placed I cannot rememberConfused.
Noted that the rumba choreography now includes imo an ott forward stretch by the ladies towards their partners and not just once but often. Leaning towards him with arms outstretched luring him to them with undulating back and shoulders with beckoning fingers. Glad the Strictly pros don't do that.Grin

That was a great link from GruffaloCrumble, wasn’t it? They were talking about the song choices on It Takes Two tonight but didn’t make any references to the dances. Emma is going to do an Irving Berlin song so I think they might do a very traditional quick step, as others have said very old school Hollywood. I can’t remember the other choices. I liked Karim’s Hairspray jive. I think Kelvin will choose his street/commercial Do I Love You. He will have lots of opportunities for a ‘my dad’s favourite song’ sniff too. Rumbas aren't really popular, especially for the men, in my opinion but of course that might be a judges’ choice.

NumbrrrrrrrrrrrrrrsStation · 11/12/2019 00:42

Showstopper would be Kelvin’s northern soul dance - with a cameo. His dad could come in and have a shuffle.

World order restored Wink

Equanimitas · 11/12/2019 00:50

ISTR all the judges having hot flushes at Kelvin's rumba, so perhaps they've chosen it for purely selfish reasons.

ppeatfruit · 11/12/2019 09:31

Just heard the 3 couples on R2 discussing their dances with Zoe, coveting You're right but they didn't give everything away.

DarlingNikita · 11/12/2019 09:46

Yes, I think so. I'm sure it went down well with Kelvin's fans at home too, so it's an all-round good choice.

Theromanempire · 11/12/2019 11:11

So, in my ideal world, Kelvin is the last of the 3 couples to dance and the final dance of the night is the samba which would clearly bring the house down and win it!

I can dream Grin

kazzaD66 · 11/12/2019 21:47

Anton on ITT tonight, watching VT of their cha cha......"our Latin dances always look a bit frenetic"

Hmm You don't say Xmas Grin

Also, Gethin asking Artem who his favourite DWTS partner has been........

Artem - well, obviously Nikki.....

Go on Gethin, ask him who his favourite Strictly partner was Xmas Grin
He didn't!

ElGuardiandenoche · 11/12/2019 22:33

Has anyone seen the news about Kevin?

www.londontheatredirect.com/news/kevin-clifton-to-star-in-the-wedding-singer-musical-at-troubadour-wembley-park

covetingthepreciousthings · 11/12/2019 22:48

I don't think Kevin will be back next year, I think whoever said he will be off into musical theatre was right.. and this news seems to cement that.

DingDongSchadenfreudeOnHigh · 11/12/2019 23:18

What! Oh coveting - that's disappointing.

Just as I've started to warm to him. I've spent all of these years loathing the very sprung floor he danced on, and now I've seen a different side to him, he's offski!

I am the kiss of death to anything I enjoy, I really am. Xmas Sad
