There hasn't been a single routine this series that seriously wowed me compared to other years. I'll watch the final but I'm not 'invested' in it the way I usually am! I'm going to vote for Emma and Anton, purely in the hope that if he wins he'll retire and feck off from the show.

RageAgainstTheSnowMachine · 09/12/2019 03:56

Slightly OTT yes unique but completely understandable given the amount of clickbait, libel and media scrutiny they undergo. You just know that if he was remotely tactile or said Love you in any context, they'll be photographed coming out of training with a nudge nudge wink wink - I don't blame him at all for emphasising they were entirely platonic.

MrsJamin · 09/12/2019 06:09

Did anyone see the cute hugging between karim and AJ in Saturday's programme? They seemed very sweet together and don't tell me that we can have a whole series of SCD with no one kissing anyone?!

WineOrGinOrBoth · 09/12/2019 06:35

I’ll watch the final but not overly invested in anyone really. I like Oti but I think I’d like Anton to win.

iklboodolphrednosedreindeer · 09/12/2019 07:31

I don't think that person can post any more spoilers. Isn't the results show on the same night for the final?

covetingthepreciousthings · 09/12/2019 07:49

Sorry I know I've brought this up before but not sure it was answered... WHY is the final seemingly a week earlier than usual? It should be on the 21st surely?

It's always the Saturday before Christmas. Have we missed out on a week?

Wheresthebeach · 09/12/2019 07:59

I agree there haven't been wow moments for me this season. Stacy's Paso was great last year.

Karim just seems so full of himself - I dance for the audience comment made me roll my eyes. Motsi giving him a 10 when there were clear mistakes, made me roll my eyes again. She's not doing him any favours with overmarking.

Kelvin seems so blank when he's talking, I feel like knocking on his head and asking 'is anybody home?'

Hope Motsi gets replaced - Shirley seems to be getting increasingly hysterical to keep up with Motsi who does nothing but scream. I'd like Anton to get the gig but I don't think the producers will do it.

Encyclo · 09/12/2019 08:03

I noticed Chris's wife thanked Karen for being so respectful during the series and she said "that made it so much more enjoyable for me personally"

Made me think how tricky this series is for partners and clearly Chris and Karen put boundaries non place at the start to ensure his wife wasn't uncomfortable.

Gotta respect that

Sparklybaublefest · 09/12/2019 08:11

i wonder if we have missed a week due to Will Bayley hurting himself?

NumbrrrrrrrrrrrrrrsStation · 09/12/2019 08:14

Yes @Encyclo

I’ve loved Karen and Chris and think that their time on strictly has been real - rather than the false luvvie darling mince or rampant affairs.

Fair play.

chocolateisavegetable · 09/12/2019 08:14

Isn't Emma even more of a ringer than Karim though? She has professional dancing experience, having been in Chicago and 10 years ago she was saying herself that she had too much dancing experience to go on Strictly. Or am I not understanding the definition of ringer?

Quartz2208 · 09/12/2019 08:19

I think part of the problem is that other than sports stars/comedians the majority of celebrities (especially singers and actors) are going to have had some training to get where they are that includes some form of dance training

digerd · 09/12/2019 08:59

My favourite pro dancer was Natalie especially in the Ballroom- so elegant, graceful and beautiful lines. Also Pasha for his dancing and easy going nature.
Celeb was Harry! Cute and sweet and had a great "journey" and genuine innate talent.

Felt sorry for Karim, he looked very 'down' knowing the viewers are not voting for him.

Will leaving early means there are only 3 in the final when there should be 4.

Last year the final was on the 15th December and 2017 was on the 15th December so it's not early this year. I thought it was always 2 weeks before Christmas?

I loved Chris and Karen's friendship and partnership. Maybe he is not a hugging person? I hate being hugged by anyone other than my husband and my mum and dad.

ppeatfruit · 09/12/2019 09:04

hello dahlings Xmas Grin Xmas Grin Ms namechanger here . Yup it was time for Christ to go !!!!!!!

It's obvious that Kelv has had quite a bit of dance training. No one dances so well without it. I'm a bit meh about who takes the glitter ball but I like Oti much more than Anton so I hope it's them.

There are plenty of very good female professionals why did Katya get 2 plum solos? I agree with whoever asked that upthread, I LOOOOOVE Carlos Acosta. He comes from a poor family in Cuba and had to fight prejudice to become a ballet dancer.

nettie434 · 09/12/2019 09:16

I feel a bit sorry for Karim too. It is standard for younger actors/performers to have to learn dance so fewer celebs - apart from athletes - come without any dance experience. I have liked all the celebs this year. I won't mind who wins. I agree there have been less stand out performances though.

LittleAndOften · 09/12/2019 09:21

I'm just going to leave this here. Happy Monday everyone Grin

melj1213 · 09/12/2019 09:43

Oh Emma is a ringer too but Karim is definitely the biggest one on the show this year.

Emma trained at Guildhall as an adult over 20 years ago and did a tour with Chicago 10 years ago. She has dance experience but her career hasn't been based on her being a dancer.

Karim was a student at Sylvia Young for secondary school - where they split their time between dance/drama and academics - has been on the west end in various musicals including playing Simba (a role given to a trained dancer) in the West End and has even presented a dance program on CBBC.

Most performers are going to have some form of dance/movement training but even within the ringers theres a difference between someone who studied performing arts as an adult and has done some dancing and someone who has spent half of their life studying performing arts and has had highly dance based roles.

DoesntLeftoverTurkeySoupDragOn · 09/12/2019 09:53

Both have girlfriends.

Samcro · 09/12/2019 09:56

i don't feel sorry for Karim. he must of known how badly Ringers do. look at ashley last year.
and omg he is smug

LittleAndOften · 09/12/2019 10:10

I wouldn't say the role of young simba is primarily dance based, it's more music, acting and stylised movement. However karim's pirouettes in second the other week were a big show off moment and do suggest a high level of training beyond just street dance (even if they weren't perfect, they're still really hard!).

I still think Karim lacks that ability to put his audience at ease. Just watching Carlos Acosta brings home how effortless the best performers make incredibly difficult moves look. Karim shows all of his effort and I think is often let down by overly busy choreography.

JemimaTab · 09/12/2019 10:45

Karim has irritated me more as the series has gone on. He’s very “stage school” and people have varying levels of tolerance to that kind of personality. I get that he attended a full-time stage school from a young age and so is used to being around that sort of thing, but to “outsiders” it can come across as a bit fake and needy. Plus his dances have left me cold, however technically good they might have been. That said, I’m finding the final 3 a bit underwhelming somehow.

Was great to see Carlos Acosta though - they should do more of that kind of thing, rather than so many singers.

DarlingNikita · 09/12/2019 10:47

Fair play, boy done good but Michelle and Dev or even Catherine or Saff were more talented.
Yes, Chris stayed in for far too long and I think (to his credit) he knew it. I will say he danced the rumba better in the DO than first time round, but Karim was still clearly better.
Chris was very gracious in defeat though.
Oddly, I find myself wanting Emma to win, but purely by default because Karim and Kelvin are both too obviously trained and Kelvin is SUCH a plank. I can feel myself getting more and more bored by the second when watching him.

Carlos A was SPECTACULAR and I think Katya was a great partner for him.

NumbrrrrrrrrrrrrrrsStation · 09/12/2019 11:58

Morning dahhhlings - wee wave to ppartridgeinappeatfruit Xmas Grin

Couldn’t agree more about Carlos Acosta. What a treat Smile

@ chocolateisavegetable

They are all a bit ringery in this final.

But there are ringers and there are great walloping dingerdonger big benjamin ringers.

DingDongSchadenfreudeOnHigh · 09/12/2019 12:55

Hell's Bells, Little - how does he defyy gravity like that? Shock

I swear that when he is in the air there are a good 3-4 seconds when he hovers . . . incredible!
