*Karim

TitsInAbsentia · 30/11/2019 23:41

@watcherintherye sorry yes I was trying to say he wasn't blowing own trumpet, merely unable to answer properly due to exertion/excitement etc.

StCharlotte · 01/12/2019 00:12

I wonder if Karim will be in the dance-off again or if last week was just a glip because people thought he was safe?

I think he was in the dance off because most right-thinking people can see "contemporary" for the ugly angst-ridden bollocks that it is. Okay, just me then Grin

If there is a voting "issue" and no one leaves, that would solve the issue of the extra person (Will Bailey) leaving earlier in the series Hmm

Finally, wasn't Alex's female partner in the audience recently?

iklboo · 01/12/2019 00:37

Kelvin went to Oldham Theatre Workshop for a couple of years. Which is basically a hobby a couple of hours a week. Almost certainly no dance training (DH was in a similar workshop). It's mainly stage & screen craft.

Ravenesque · 01/12/2019 00:38

Had another thought about Karim and last week's dance off, well two thoughts.

  1. The obvious. People thought he was safe so no need to vote which might also correlate with him having lower popularity but not that he's horribly unpopular.
  1. In the videos we get before the dance we learned, well a lot of us learned I know I did, that he'd been to a child's drama school, ergo acting and dancing, ergo previous experience, ergo "ringer" and thought well I'm not bloody voting for him.

Obviously, I'm over thinking this, but I tend to when it comes to SCD, because when it comes down to Karim I don't really care and actually found it amusing that he was in the dance off. Off the poor dancers I hope we keep Chris because what he lacks in dance ability he makes up for in personality and performance. I loved a lot of his dance tonight because he made me smile with happiness.

EnidButton · 01/12/2019 00:42

Jazz handing (😳) my way in before reading the thread to say I loved tonight's show. Musicals week is always my fave.

I can't warm to Karim and Amy so maybe that colours my view but I didn't think it was a 40 dance tbh. Faves were Kelvin and Oti. I thought Emma was better than Anton and thoroughly deserved her high score.

Hoping for a Chris and Alex dance off.

Now to RTFT and discover everyone disagrees. Grin

Oh and I'm a Hello Dolly fan and really enjoyed the opening number. Craig was fab-u-lous.

iklboo · 01/12/2019 00:45

I know what everyone means. Karim is technically good but has no relatability. He kind of leaves me cold. And he can't take notes about toning back. The am dram Director in me would think twice about casting him.

Encyclo · 01/12/2019 01:00

Just back in from a lovely dinner with old friends.
Speed watched Strictly and my two fave dances by far were Karim and Emma.

Emma carried Anton in that dance and Karim's jive gave me chills. He was incredible. Ringer or not, I absolutely loved it.

Didn't love Kelvins dance and feel he might end up in the DO.

Chris and Alex starting to really drop to the bottom now. Either one to go IMO. They've both had a decent run.

No, me too.
I really enjoy theatre/jazz and street/commercial but contemporary seems to be getting used in a blatant attempt to tug at the heart strings.
Fair enough, perhaps, to tell the story of someone's "journey" if there's been a journey as in Will's case (even then, I'd prefer it to be about the dancing; Will's struggle to cope with his problems and get to the Olympics spoke for itself) but Karim's definitely smacked of Peter Kaye's R Wayne and R Nan.*

Really enjoying Karim's dancing; could totally do without R Karim, R Mum and R Sister.

*If this sounds like gibberish (most of what I write does), googling en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Britain's_Got_the_Pop_Factor..._and_Possibly_a_New_Celebrity_Jesus_Christ_Soapstar_Superstar_Strictly_on_Ice should help.

Inkanta · 01/12/2019 05:38

Emma carried Anton in that dance

Yes I thought so. Her Charleston dancing is beautiful and polished.

Ravenesque · 01/12/2019 06:21

I really like contemporary dance when it's done by dancers who have been properly trained, especially when it's ballet dancers who've moved from classical to introduce more into their dance. Barishnikov is/was a joy to watch. On strictly there's a double problem in that neither the professional nor the celebrity has anything close to the expertise necessary to really make you feel it. It's not impossible but I think it's unlikely that we'll ever see a total all of the feels contemporary on strictly, whereas with the other two it's possible to get something hugely entertaining.I've not really enjoyed any of the three contemporaries we've had this year although to be fair to Will and Karim they were both better than Saffron. Hers made me want to kill her nana to make it just stop.

jinglebitch · 01/12/2019 06:26

I just do NOT get the Emma thing. I know its partly because I'm distracted with loathing of Anton, but I find her clunky and not graceful at all. Also trying to be objective and not base it all on her vacuous gurning...but ive not enjoyed watching her once. (Her mum did make me laugh though, she was like a less bright Pamelaaaaaa.)
Feel like this has to be Anton's last year...and they're letting him do musical auditions now, because they're clearly never going to give him the judge's job he covets so much. So pleased Motsi got it over him.

Egghead68 · 01/12/2019 07:15

I don’t think Karin has much of a connection/chemistry with Amy.

I’ve no idea why Chris is still in it - he’s by far the weakest imo and I can’t think that he has much of a pre-existing fan base.

Kelvin and Oti (and Michelle and Gio but too late for them) all the way for me.

Egghead68 · 01/12/2019 07:16

P.S. I wish Motsi would give more specific critiques rather than all her platitudes.

EleanorReally · 01/12/2019 07:55

Just speed watched and liked Emma's best, but that is just to say I preferred the dance, no technical knowledge, and I have realised I am working on the finals night Sad

EleanorReally · 01/12/2019 07:56

i like how Chris makes Karen laugh

EleanorReally · 01/12/2019 07:58

Surely Karim is gay?

SoupDragon · 01/12/2019 08:32

He's dating a female uni student apparently.

SoupDragon · 01/12/2019 08:34

I’ve no idea why Chris is still in it

I didn't like him at first and thought he was crap but I think he has improved the most and is having an absolute blast.

SoupDragon · 01/12/2019 08:38

So pleased Motsi got it over him.

Motsi is a dreadful judge.

xsquared · 01/12/2019 08:46

Surely Karim is gay?

What makes you say that? There are picture of him (shock horror) drinking, smoking and snogging a girl in a night out, on the internet at the moment.

Why is everyone gay all of a sudden?

xsquared · 01/12/2019 08:47

according to mners.

woodhill · 01/12/2019 09:00

Why couldn't Anton be given a judge role.?

ppeatfruit · 01/12/2019 09:09

Crikey talk about talk\chat you lot could do it for England Grin

Thanks Bluffin for the new thread (I know it's not new but it is for me Grin ) I admit that I haven't read it all

. BUT I loved the Hello Dolly pro and judges' start dance with Craig as Dolly he was brilliant I also liked Kevin and Anton's singing. I didn't notice Bruno.

I liked Kelvin's dance best, I also don't reckon that karim's was a 40.

ppeatfruit · 01/12/2019 09:12

Bruno or Craig would have to go if they had a new male judge, they need the balance of the sexes.
