For those who have seen it all, or don't mind spoilers.

I’m in a weird place emotionally

So I would normally read it as sinister I think

But ended up reading it as “there’s all kinds of reasons for relationships and sometimes they’ll work or not, regardless”.

I’m sure a lot of people know if they’re married for their money and are okay with it.

Have to say I found this series absolutely rubbish but strangely i had to watch it all to find out what happened. Nothing much as it turns out!

I found Julia to be a strong character.

yeagI didn't like the smug final look either, NoSauce and TheMagicians - unless he was attempting 'proud and happy' but didn't manage that (the actor, I mean). He mostly seemed genuine apart from that ild threat to Julia's son 'stay out of my way' and I won't tell anyone about your affair.
I have a feeling there might be a sequence.
Julia and her ex (Jennings) were very good.

Benjamin looked like the murderer in The Fall, played by Jamie Dornan, so srtaight away I thought he was a gold digger. Smile
The ex husband too may have been a gold digger. Not one but two rich wives and he was violent.

bean yes! I kept thinking why does he seem familiar?
Jamie D was great though in The Fall, much better acting than Ben.

What a crock of shit. Loved the beginning, after all being wooed by a handsome young man and having sex in beautiful hotels is great. Then it went bat shit crazy. Too many timing issues, plot fails, awful characters (everyone behaved shitty except for step sister) and Julia was just dry and dumb. They should have let her end with strength and gusto, kicking Ben out and moving on without any manipulative man around. Instead they made it into a mills and boon. Also the disparity in their physicality, he was practically puny, made it look weird in screen. Ben was completely dislikable from start to finish with zero redeeming characteristics. Julia deserved him and you can see why she stayed in an unhappy marriage. Awful characters. Please no series 2.

It could have been a really good slow burner series focusing on the manipulation but too many shitty distractions. And finally, how ugly were her kids!! They were weasly, weak and pathetic.

haha yes! the daughter has improved though - but then she added Ben to that group who really WAS looking for a mother figure (not his fault what with his background, but how is that good for Julia?)

I think most people missed the point. This was a story about two victims of life finding each other. It was good to see a story showing how domestic violence has far reaching consequences. Unfortunately a lot of people could not see past the title.

I thought it was good though I despaired when she went ahead with the wedding. I'd like a follow up series.
Blush Runs and hides as this is so against the feelings of the majority on this thread.

Was it Benjamin or his brother who killed the shopkeeper- did we ever get a definitive answer ?

Well, thank goodness justin has arrived to tell us what the point is. We can rest easy now.

bean I'd like a follow-up too, it could actually improve depending how it develops. I did like it until the last episode really. Just not sure whether they love each other after all. ExH is very tiresome (yawn really) even though Alan Jenkins is good. The older son also tiresome. But it's an unusual series and Julia is very likeable.

Julia was so annoying. I liked her at first, but then when it came out that her kids had seen her being beaten up by Ted and she dealt with that by NEVER MENTIONING IT TO THEM AGAIN that really got on my wick.

Julia was just a bit of a non-character to me. So was Ben. So were all of them really. That was one of the major issues with this production - a very thin storyline, with unengaging characters, dragged out when it should have been a 3 or maybe 4 parter at most. I just really didn't give a toss what happened to any of them. So much time taken up with her boring whiny children. We saw that she had a big wedding with loads of guests. Did she have no female friends she could discuss the relationship with? None of it really rang true.

And that final episode, with her putting on the virginal white wedding dress? Please.
