Jill Halfpenny - where is she now?

I've been watching Waterloo Road on iPlayer and loving Jill Halfpenny's character and then saw a throwback to her jive on Strictly and got me wondering where is she? Not seen her on a TV in ages and she's great, so hoping she's back on our screens soon!

Thought l heard her doing the voice over for Argos.

Timeandtune · 05/11/2019 23:07

If you like podcasts you can listen to her on TwoShot Podcast. A very insightful interview.

InvisibleWomenMustBeRead · 05/11/2019 23:09

Now that you mention it, I think I heard that too @Jingers5 Grin

Fair enough if she's taking a break and just making pocket money, but otherwise I'd like to see her in more good stuff. Also for some others who have done Strictly, it's really propelled their career, but doesn't seem to have had the same effect for hers despite her jive still being one that's talked about over a decade later!

What's that @Timeandtune?

She was in a recent BBC drama called Dark Money.

Runkle · 06/11/2019 03:14

Her partner died suddenly in 2017 so probably explains her absence too.

InvisibleWomenMustBeRead · 06/11/2019 09:32

Oh I didn't know that @Runkle - very sad.

She talks a lot in the podcast about her sudden bereavement. If you search TwoShot podcast. You should find it quite easily. I have a podcast app on my phone .

Bluerussian · 06/11/2019 09:46

She was in a very good drama series not that long ago called, "In the Club".

I also saw her - might have been this year - in a drama where she was a mother to a child star who was sexually abused by a producer, that was excellent.

I've seen her in something else recently too, forgotten what but it will come to me.

ColonelCathcart · 06/11/2019 14:25

She was in the Victorian crime comedy programme with Matt Berry, I can’t remember the name. She was quite funny, I hadn’t seen her do that kind of thing before.

mynameisMrG · 06/11/2019 14:26

Wasn’t she in the bbc programme three girls last year?

WellTidy · 06/11/2019 14:26

She was in Liar (with Ioan Gruffydd) last year (or was it the year before)?

InvisibleWomenMustBeRead · 06/11/2019 18:02

Oh wow, she's been in loads that I've completely missed then! That's good as I really liked her so glad she hasn't disappeared altogether!

Bluerussian · 06/11/2019 19:29

Very far from it, Invisible. She is a very competent actor and ideal for many types of characters in TV drama.

I remember her winning with the jive in 2004, I was so excited that she won!

InvisibleWomenMustBeRead · 06/11/2019 23:35

I completely agree @Bluerussian, which is why I was wondering why she wasn't much more visible (a la Suranne Jones!) but obviously I just don't watch what she's been in!

OP posts:
SinisterBumFacedCat · 06/11/2019 23:43

She was in Year of the Rabbit

DarlingNikita · 08/11/2019 12:45

I didn't know about her partner. How sad. I watched Liar but don't remember her at all Confused

RuffleCrow · 08/11/2019 12:52

I really like her. Love the fact that she started off on Byker Grove and has gone on to do so many other things. She was Ruth on the Archers wasn't she? And now they have someone else doing an impression of her accent? It doesn't sound quite right.

RuffleCrow · 08/11/2019 12:55

Oh no, seems i invented that! Lol. Grin

DarlingNikita · 08/11/2019 13:57

What, Liar?
I'm glad; otherwise it'd mean my memory is even more shocking than I realise! Grin

WellTidy · 08/11/2019 14:26

In Liar, she was the partner of the police officer who was raped.

DappledThings · 08/11/2019 18:27

When she was on Strictly I knew who she was but hadn't heard her name said before. I assumed it was pronounced like the word halfpenny, so you would say "ha'penny". Caused my friend much hilarity.

notacooldad · 11/11/2019 09:54

Didn't you think to look on Wikipedia OP?
An actors film and tv work is listed in chronological order.

InvisibleWomenMustBeRead · 11/11/2019 14:26

I didn't actually, no. Didn't realise that was the rule before starting a thread!

notacooldad · 11/11/2019 14:30

My post sounded abrupt! I'm sorry.
I must admit if I'm wondering about anyone I tend to google and then end up down a rabbit hole and easy lose half an hour or so!
I find out much more about people's work and roles than a comment here and there on MN
