The latest Sarah Lancashire drama starts tonight, from the writer of Kirri and National Treasure. Anyone else planning to watch?

That was very strange.

Encyclo · 24/10/2019 22:04

I'm going to stick with it for Sarah Lancashire and Joanne Scanlan, but Jaysus it's rough going

Hesperatum · 24/10/2019 22:05

Is it me or is Sarah Lancashire speaking very quietly - I can hardly hear her?

unique1986 · 24/10/2019 22:06

I'll watch next week.
Anyone else? Intrigued by the building owner and the relationships shes gonna have with Asian guy.

unique1986 · 24/10/2019 22:07

Sarah Lancashire has been off for a while. She was not good in that drama with Richard Gere.

Rainatnight · 24/10/2019 22:08

God, that was shite. I’m SO disappointed. Love Sarah Lancashire. It was so heavily advertised - popped up every time I went on Twitter - that I wonder if they knew it was ropey and we’re trying to drum up watchers.

Don’t know if I‘ll give episode 2 a go.

MintyMabel · 24/10/2019 22:09

I’m not watching it. That makes reading this thread really quite funny.😄

WellTidy · 24/10/2019 22:10

I didn’t like that Richard Gere thing either. Skipped through it on I player. I agree that SL wasn’t good in it.

I absolutely loved Happy Valley though and expect everything she is in to be as good and it never ever is.

I didn’t like Kiri either by the end.

poorbuthappy · 24/10/2019 22:11

@MintyMabel me too!!!!!

WellTidy · 24/10/2019 22:12

The Guardian has given it four stars in its review 😕

FREEM · 24/10/2019 22:15

i switched off a tthe DV scene.
Too weird.

ASmallMovie · 24/10/2019 22:15

The Guardian gave the outstanding Chernobyl 3 stars but gives this 4?!? Jeez-oh.

WellTidy · 24/10/2019 22:17

The Independent has given it four stars too. Odd.

Looobyloo · 24/10/2019 22:19

Very very disappointing. I couldn't hear a word SL was saying, then her husband beat her then she hugs him, then there's a woman getting a seriously ill teenager to say her alphabet Confused

Generally anything with SL in is worth watching, normally..

Think I'll give it a miss next week.

OrangeTwirlGate · 24/10/2019 22:20

That was absolutely crap.

Great idea, or so I thought. But it was boring, weird and just plain crap.

Shit acting from all (sorry SL I do like you otherwise)

I don’t know how it works with tv but do you think bbc and itv didn’t want to buy it as they thought it was shit hence why it’s on channel 4?

Fantababy · 24/10/2019 22:25

I tend to think things on C4 will be better. Albeit often more strange or off the wall. Closer to BBC2 stuff maybe.

mustangs · 24/10/2019 22:30

I agree that a Sally Wainwright script would have been shitloads better.

I watched it because of Sarah Lancashire...since Happy Valley and Last Tango I have it in my mind that she's going to be fucking amazing in everything she's in. But the last couple of things she's done have been a bit Hmm

She's still my girl crush though

Encyclo · 24/10/2019 22:33

Nah I'm sticking with it. Sarah won't let me down surely?

That DV scene was so jarring and unexpected in the middle of all the silent moments and her husband's complete lack of interest in the fate of everyone inside the building including his own child was so bizarre. Is that realistic?

I need to know more, but dh has bailed on it. He thinks it's unwatchable.

RolytheRhino · 24/10/2019 22:34

then there's a woman getting a seriously ill teenager to say her alphabet

I thought she was saying the alphabet so the teenager could blink when she got to the right letter and thus spell out a word to communicate?

The DV thing was bizarre.

1happyhippie · 24/10/2019 22:36

I didn’t enjoy it either. Felt a bit rushed and missed loads of info out.
Wasn’t very believable either. There was hardly any emotion shown considering a major incident had happened, killing so many children!
People on Twitter are saying the same. It’s a shame because it could have been a really good drama.
Don’t think I will watch next week.

mustangs · 24/10/2019 22:39

Yes, it's getting absolutely slated on Twitter.

RolytheRhino · 24/10/2019 22:39

So, did all of them die except one?

mummabubs · 24/10/2019 22:41

I thought it was OK, although certain points did jar a little- such as the nurse letting her just walk onto the ward -(you're not alone on that one neouf!) I'm possibly a tad biased as I work with patients who've sustained a brain injury not too far from where this is set so I found it hard to see many inaccuracies in how the daughter's care was portrayed post injury. Although I get it's a drama you'd think someone on the writing team would have consulted with neuro services to see what you would expect in the real life equivalent!? I'll still watch the next ep though. That DV scene was so uncomfortable I had to look away.

newhopewithanyluck · 24/10/2019 22:43

Subtitles required for sure if I bother with this next week.

...weird!

Frillyfarmer · 24/10/2019 23:08

Presumably this will get better because if would be a bit shit if it was all as it seems -load of kids accidentally blow themselves up, the end?
