.. the other thread have people on it that haven't binged watched it and don't want spoilers.
I thought I would start a spoiler thread for those of us that have seen it all.

I loved it all ; the sports day and Mrs Lamb on her loud hailer was very funny. Lots of film references too ; Notting Hill in the Lee mead episode and Shallow grave when they go on holiday.
Liz's ex is also hot ; shame his not a nicer character!

Pauline in Mum is such a brilliantly written character. The scene with her helping the sulky goth teenager with her knitting was so telling. Loved Mum.

The80sweregreat · 11/10/2019 17:41

Pauline had many layers. A brilliant character and beautifully acted. Mum was much more poignant than Motherland is but the characters have some similar traits.
Clever writing all round.

Just finished binge watching, loved it overall. The last episode was quite poignant with meg trying not to cry when joining the first bit of sports day Sad but the bit at the beginning when Kevin was emotionally explaining that he couldn’t be there for sports day and his kids were trying to continue to eat their toast unmoved was pretty funny Smile

I got a bit confused though- the bit where julia’s Mum was saying that she wasn’t there for her sports days- couldn’t work that out, it didn’t seem to be a joke, maybe they are planning to go into that a bit more in the next series??

Bluewavescrashing · 11/10/2019 18:03

I think Julia's mum was trying to make the point that she was there for Julia and they did have fun together, maybe not #makingmemories at sports day but nonetheless Julia did remember positives from her childhood. They kind of bonded in the last episode.

Fullsteamahead · 11/10/2019 20:36

FREED⚫️M 😂😂😂

bibliomania · 12/10/2019 11:22

the bit where julia’s Mum was saying that she wasn’t there for her sports days

The way I read is that Julia always feels that she's falling short of being a Proper Mother, but she's holding herself up to an imaginary standard. She "remembers" her mother being at her sports day and blames herself for not living up to this, but she's not even remembering correctly. She's not falling short in the ways she thinks she is. I thought it was quite an important point.

Rockbird · 12/10/2019 11:41

Liz hanging on to her pushchair and taking it round with her made me sniff. Especially as on the surface she's nearly (but not quite!) as detached from her kids as Julia.

SorbetK6 · 12/10/2019 18:32

My favourite episode was Le Weekend.
The shallow grave
Kevin behind the telly reading out the WiFi code
Shag a shepherd

The80sweregreat · 12/10/2019 20:09

The wi fi code thing was funny and very true.

Think my fave was Halloween and lee mead.
I don’t think we’re supposed to like Julia are we? Liz is def my favourite.

The80sweregreat · 12/10/2019 22:08

Lee mead being binned off by Liz was sad really.

Do you ever watch Better Things? Its on the iplayer its like an American version. I love it.

The80sweregreat · 13/10/2019 13:04

Halloween is a bit like that here. Starts off with the little ones looking cute with their parents and m and s Halloween buckets and ends up with very scary older ones out for a bit of mayhem.
The lee mead dog he was holding was lovely ; wonder if it was his?

Amanda at the sports day was excruciatingly sad...it was watching a woman desperately clinging onto and trying to save her marriage, while her husband couldn't give a shit.

Almahart · 13/10/2019 22:43

Le Weekend was every trip away I have ever had with other families. Brilliant

escapade1234 · 13/10/2019 23:44

Loved Le Weekend. Poor Kevin and “it’s not my house, you know!”.

Goatrider · 14/10/2019 17:05

Is the first series available anywhere? I think I enjoyed it more, although I can't remember what happened in it.

I was disappointed with the series ending on the Sport Day episode. I was hoping for a couple more at least.

The80sweregreat · 14/10/2019 17:19

I guess that the budget was blown in this series and they could only make six episodes ! There is another one in the pipeline I read on here but not sure when it'll be on again.

Thanks for this thread, I loved this and am so pleased to hear there will be another series. Kevin and the “not my house” was awesome - why is it as soon as you make a holiday cottage booking everyone assumes you’re in charge of the whole weekend?! Amanda taking the double bed was brilliantly, casually, totally alpha. I’d like to see Ann lose her rag at some point, she’s just so kind that she actually feels sorry for Amanda.

WhatAGreatDay · 15/10/2019 14:55

I enjoyed the second series more than the first. All the actors are brilliant, but I particularly like Kevin - what a great character. Love the writing.

They also showed a more vulnerable side to Amanda this time. It was a bit sad when even nice Ann admitted that she only allows Amanda to treat her like a servant, because she (Ann) feels sorry for her.

I loved all the stuff with #shitshop and Julia treating the man in the cafe like a PA. Why on Earth did he go and deal with Julia's delivery? He needs to come to Mumsnet and learn how to deal with CFs. Kevin being expected to know everything about the holiday house was funny.

The80sweregreat · 15/10/2019 16:59

The 'fake PA ' man was really sweet! I guess it was showing how people can become CF's so fast when he was only trying to help her get her firm up and running and show some support! Julia is never one to pass up an opportunity to take the micky. Liz would have her sussed straight away!
Kev is very fanciable out of his high vis.

I think all the husbands are gorgeous, as is Liz's ex, Lee. I hope we get to see Anne's husband in series 3!

The80sweregreat · 15/10/2019 21:22

Liz's ex is easy on the eyes. Shame his a horrible character!

OP posts:
QueenOfTheAndals · 15/10/2019 21:30

It was quite telling at the end when Anne says she's friends with Amanda because she feels sorry for her.

The80sweregreat · 16/10/2019 06:20

The bunch of keys was funny ' bins, back door, front door, ignore that one..'
Always a key without a lock hanging around.
