.. the other thread have people on it that haven't binged watched it and don't want spoilers.
I thought I would start a spoiler thread for those of us that have seen it all.

I loved it all ; the sports day and Mrs Lamb on her loud hailer was very funny. Lots of film references too ; Notting Hill in the Lee mead episode and Shallow grave when they go on holiday.
Liz's ex is also hot ; shame his not a nicer character!

I binge watched too, couldn’t help myself, but am now sad I’ve got to wait 12 months to see what happens next.

Amanda was still trying to be alpha mummy but what with her new, young and gorgeous assistant and the fact that she didn’t know her house was on the market, there were some really poignant stories running for her.

Loved Liz and the pushchair, especially when she was wheeling the pumpkin around.

southeastdweller · 16/10/2019 14:56

I've rewatched them all apart from the first one which was poorly written with too much focus on Meg who seemed cartoon-y in this episode. I may have to splurge on a download of series 1 to get my next fix!

Thirtyrock39 · 16/10/2019 21:41

My funniest moment of the second series was the scene at the start of the Halloween episode when the policeman was giving the talk about safety

mnahmnah · 16/10/2019 21:51

I didn’t realise the sports day episode was the last one until it finished. Rubbish!

I actually like Julia. Couldn’t tell you why! Maybe because she’s just so brazen, doesn’t hide behind politeness etc?!

Standout moment for me was when Kev totally lost it on the weekend away, ranting at them all. Brilliant. Finally stood up for himself.

desperatehousewife21 · 17/10/2019 13:04

I wasn’t expecting sports day to be the last either. So so funny I loved it on le weekend when Liz said ‘I faked my own death once to get out of my talktalk contract’ Grin

Can’t wait for series 3 I’d like to see some new characters too.

The80sweregreat · 17/10/2019 20:15

The safety talk was spot on wasn't it?

I really like Julia, she's the one I identify with the most! I wouldn't do the PA CF thing though.

Julia's mum is pretty horrid to her though.

mizu · 21/10/2019 07:37

I really like Julia too.

All the characters are very well portrayed and spot on.

My DDs are teenagers now but I remember those days of school gates mayhem.

I was always in a mad rush both dropping off and picking up, squashing my work into school hours when afterschool club was full. I was permanently knackered.

ChickenyChick · 21/10/2019 07:49

I know someone like Julia, and an Amanda, I also used to run the cake stall with a Kevin Grin

Wish I had known a Meg or Liz too Grin

The80sweregreat · 21/10/2019 10:31

Julia's mum isn't that nice as she used her for years to run the kids about and take care of them. In episode one of the first series she was trying to find out why her mum had stopped doing it all for her and was having fun instead of being an unpaid nanny!
There is a lot of conflict there.

I’ve seen episode one so far but I find Julia the most annoying - Meg had no answer for who was going to do the missing parenting, just that men don’t ask themselves this, and Julia turns the promotion down as she feels it will send HER crazy.

I know it’s a show about mother’s but most of the parents I know do things based on the impact to their kids. The rest of it - a job you can phone in, having to turn down or being passed over for junior male colleagues all felt true.

The line about ‘where’s your secret sadness’ was great but you never really see it in Julia.

The80sweregreat · 21/10/2019 19:27

Meg was a bit unfair as she has her mum living with her to share the ' mothers load' and her dh seems supportive too.
. Julia has nobody at all ; her mum has become distant and her dh is interested in his hobbies and work and no help to her.
It's all very well saying ' just go for it' but someone has to care / do for the kids too!
Its a dilemma only too common with families ( unless you can hire a nanny !)

magicautumnalhues · 21/10/2019 20:58

And even if you have rock solid childcare, it’s not you, it’s still just a job to someone. Julia seems to always be looking for people to make her feel better about her choices, rather than changing things for the better.

It’s funny as some of the other characters are more than their stereotypes.

magicautumnalhues · 21/10/2019 21:00

I hated the kitten heel thing too - however busy and knackered I’ve been,
I’ve never gotten to a shop where they only had kitten heels left and put my kids in them.

Done a crap job of helping with the term project homework, yes, many times...

The80sweregreat · 21/10/2019 21:38

I guess the shoe thing was just a bit of silly comedy. At least it led into a show down with Mrs lamb about Ivy's unsuitable footwear! (Mrs L is every school receptionist I've ever come across! Lol)

I don't get that Julia doesn't love her kids, but I do get the impression she isn't as invested as someone like Liz or Kevin is and was so used to her mum helping her out she is now struggling with the day to day things hence forgetting to buy the shoes etc.
Meg would have sent her mum or dh during the hols to Clarks, Kev would have bought them first week of the holidays and Liz the weekend before. Amanda would have a special trip to Selfridges and lunch up town!
Anne would be ready weeks in advance!

'Darius, put down that apple, you don't know where it's been.'
'It's been on the tree, Anne.'
