Changed the name of this thread as we were very upset with the ending of series 3 out in Bangladesh! Waiting out for news of series 4. In the meantime, we are reviewing the seven series of Soldier Soldier.

See what you mean about LLG.

Ilovelblue · 05/11/2019 21:53

Oooh, I'd forgotten about Hong Kong Rhu.

Yeah, I know that some of Paddy's lines are cheesy, but he is cute.

eejittwo · 05/11/2019 21:56

About the only unhappy ending in that episode is Donna and Dave.

Ilovelblue · 05/11/2019 22:02

I know what I meant to say, vaguely related to Soldier Soldier. In the summer, I was at Sissinghurst, home of Vita Sackville West and Harold Nicolson. I have been before but this time we were treated to a tour of their cottage and it made me look for the DVD "Portrait of a Marriage" which was about their very liberal marriage (they were both bisexual). It turned out that the husband in the series was played by David Haig (Major Tom in the first series) and Vita's female lover was played by the woman who was his on screen wife. I recognised him immediately but couldn't place her for a while.

Bored Laura with the cable knit sweater and pearls from series 1 who had an affair with Dickie Bird?

Ilovelblue · 05/11/2019 22:10

That's the one!

It's taken me a few weeks to get round to watching the DVD. What I hadn't realised, it was a 4 part series on BBC2 going back to 2005 I think. The first episode was quite heavy going - a typical BBC2 drama - and as yet I've not been able to summon up the enthusiasm to watch any further episodes.

So which day is it to be next week? I can't do Thursday.

Rhubarb01 · 05/11/2019 22:22

I'm ok for Tuesday or Wednesday.

Magi84 · 06/11/2019 06:07

Hi everyone. Certainly plenty going on in that episode of Soldier Soldier. Amazing how they kept it going series after series.

Rhu you asked about any OG news and funnily enough yesterday on Instagram Tony Grounds posted another picture and mentioned they were doing some great work in the edit room. When asked about when series was likely to be on he was a bit vague and more or less implied Spring as was mentioned before. So presumably that means March or April. Think Ilove thought April.

eejittwo · 06/11/2019 07:05

Provided ongoing domestic crisis doesn't go critical, Tuesday is best for me.

Ilovelblue · 10/11/2019 21:04

Have any of you been watching the 3-part series about the new aircraft carrier, Queen Elizabeth? It's been absolutely fascinating.

Rhubarb01 · 11/11/2019 18:19

Hi ilove - I saw a trailer or maybe the start of the first episode but didn't watch it all. Do you remember that series from the 1970's about HMS Ark Royal - the one that Rod Stewart sang "Sailing" over the title sequence? I imagine things have changed dramatically since then especially with women on board.

Thinking more on a drama front, I can remember ITV showing a drama set on board a naval ship with a female officer, but I think they pulled it after about 4 episodes. They had a habit of doing that back in the early noughties if they didn't get really good viewing figures. It just disappeared off the screen part way through. I can't remember if it was any good but it's still annoying.

Is Tuesday confirmed for the next episode?

eejittwo · 11/11/2019 18:54

Loved that Ark Royal series. Brilliant editing of sound with vision - remember the opening titles. Best was bombing runs in the Caribbean to a soundtrack of Dark Side of the Moon.
Oops - that’s my cover blown!
All set to be in parade tomorrow night.

Ilovelblue · 11/11/2019 22:52

Gosh, the Ark Royal. That does take me back.

If you are short of something to watch, I can definitely recommend watching this latest series about the Queen Elizabeth - it was half about the ship and half about the new F35 aircraft. Really worth the viewing time.

I'll be there at 9 pm tomorrow.

May be a tad late on parade, but I will be there.

Rhubarb01 · 12/11/2019 20:59

So, here we are for the next episode "Poles Apart"

Ilovelblue · 12/11/2019 20:59

Ready to go on parade ladies....

Training in a gas mask - doesn't seem like much fun.

Rhubarb01 · 12/11/2019 21:01

So Kieran is acting C.O. at the moment.

Ilovelblue · 12/11/2019 21:02

A training exercise with gas, gas masks and guns.

Gosh, Tony likes the sound of his own voice. There's a new lad in the platoon.
