Shiny new thread.

OP posts:

I think Johannes is amazing too, what a star. Catherine Tyldesley is lovely, so graceful.

I didn't see all of it last night, am watching what I missed now.

The80sweregreat · 06/10/2019 06:29

I thought Chris was good and undermarked.
I can't take to Charlotte although her routine wasn't bad and to enjoy doing a rumba is unusual . Bit too try hard at times but she can dance. She seems a bit too intense.
Michelle is very strong and it was a shame they didn't like Karim's Panda much as I thought it was very entertaining and he is a natural. Kelvin is also very good.
Not the best movie week though!

The80sweregreat · 06/10/2019 06:29

Catherine not Charlotte!

Rachelover60 · 06/10/2019 07:43

Just saw Emma and Anton's dance. Not my favourite but not bad at all, I really like Emma (sounds like I like them all, well I do really just some more than others), it was fun. I hated Emma's make up but maybe it was appropriate for Austin Powers, I've not seen the film.

Everyone is having a good time but it's still early days. Agree, not the best movie week but it's over now.

I have to say I like intensity.

Emma Weymouth and Aljaz were delightful.

Figgygal · 06/10/2019 08:39

Anneka is bloody horrendous bless her

I liked Karim thought they were quite harsh

Thought kelvin was overmarked very underwhelming

Toofaroutallmylife · 06/10/2019 08:50

We’re obsessed with Johannes in our house too. Saw him in Burn the Floor in 2016 and DD said then “ooh I hope he joins Strictly”.

An amazing dancer- I was worried how he would take to choreographing a celeb but it looks good so far!

TheOnlyLivingBoyInNewCross · 06/10/2019 08:58

Loved Michelle's dance. Enjoyed Kelvin's but didn't think it was worth 10s - the lifts were a bit awkward.

Liked Chris's and thought it was undermarked, and always love me a bit of Aljaz ballroom although my goodness, the gapping!

Can't get excited about Karim and have no idea what the fuss was about Dev's dance - as others have said, compared to Charles and Karen last year, it was nothing special at all!

Liked Johannes' rumba although he leaves me cold still, but felt sorry for Neil also doing a rumba in the same week - his was over before it started!

Will and Janette - just what the fuck was that all about?

And Katya and Mike - she is being made to pay proper penance for her sins last year, isn't she?

ppeatfruit · 06/10/2019 10:12

Kevin needs to teach poor Anneka some basics like pointing her feet properly. She's got a nice body and stamina, she just needs dance lessons! Maybe she didn't have time to work out before the show began. And choosing Kill Bill as her film WHAAAAT !!!! Though I must admit that their fighting wasn't bad!

I hated the Mary Poppin's Returns film, what was wrong with using the original one with the original music fgs??

Tonnerre · 06/10/2019 10:21

I like Katya's approach with people like Mike and Ed Balls: she knows they're not going to win, but equally she knows how to get the best out of them and producing entertaining dances along the way.

ppeatfruit · 06/10/2019 10:28

Well she doesn't get the best out of the bloke now, she throws herself at him in a totally unsubtle way, she's like a very small, hyperactive bull in a china shop Grin

ElspethFlashman · 06/10/2019 11:15

I thought Will and Jeanette was terrible.

He has plenty of attack, but he just looks like he's trying to stab the floor with every stride. It's too aggressive and comes off too punchy. He dances like a greyhound who's just been released from the gate.

At least he got some criticism this week.

RageAgainstTheVendingMachine · 06/10/2019 11:23

Going all the way back to the start of the thread, a tuba, Schaden A TUBA???!!! Wink
len the spoons are sticking out of your granny pants, you ain't fooling anyone, hand them over Grin playing the spoons should be banned
Gethin meh, Rylan fab, Joe hmm, I cannot abide couple blogging though in any form.
I want to get a kitten but the idea of fleas being immune to meds just puts me off.
Dev drops Dianne on her head was The Sun's front page yesterday. I commented and the man whose paper it was looked sad so I had to reveal my sad stan credentials as opposed to him thinking I was slagging off his choice of paper I was but better to be kind than right on occasion
So I was expecting amazing lifts yesterday but it all seemed a bit lacklustre and careful (I can understand the latter not the former).
Dev (and Johannes) were going for Luther Vandross/Broadcast News/Gio in his early days level of sweat.
I did wonder how huge the Blue Man's Group's laundry bill must be.
David James and Nadijya?? Thought she was happily married? They'll be doing Playing Away headlines if that is remotely true.
Get well soon kiwi Wine
book hand over the sleigh bells, you can have them back in December. Might let you keep the kalimba though had to google it
Agogo bells just made me remember how they crammed Anthony Ogogo into a Wham theme. Was that better or worse than Anneka, you're always on the run now...
As to movie week
Liked Tess's dress
Liked Pixar routine and the graphics (Am a big kid at heart)
I still insist HeadnShoulders refund me
Schaden bonus points for embonpoint (in future that's what I am going to hoik!)

RageAgainstTheVendingMachine · 06/10/2019 11:37

Michelle - fab Gio looked good as the MC
She did a nosegate on DragRaceUK this week which did make me wonder whether Craig's teethgate came from that, oh cynical me
Hayley Mills gets no pass from me in Baby Names as she chose a bad name Petey (her son is called Crispian, he of kula shaka bollocks)
DWTS has had some epic routines and Tom the host outshines Tess any day of the week not hard
Neil as the ocean??!! Ok-ay told you he should have been Vincent Van Gogh instead Loving Vincent in a starry night number
Alex is not living up to expectations
I know Moana as Vaiana (abroad they changed the name due to some copyright restriction, others said it was because Moana was an italian porn star Grin)
cheeseoncrumpets they did Greatest Showman last year - Danny fucked up his paso to it. Let it Go was used by Frankie (and Gorka?) on a Xmas special.
For those who hated the rendition and rumba here is the original singer and a rather nice contempowaft from DWTS

DarlingNikita · 06/10/2019 12:19

The best rumba was Colin Jackson and Erin

Anton Teethgate was HILARIOUS. Poor Craig was genuinely mortified.
Karen and wotsit looked beautiful and I thought the judges were harsh. The singing of Cabaret was terrific. Anneka was awful but SO game: I loved her taking over: ‘So that’s one point from Bruno...’ Grin The Pixar plugging in the opening routine was shocking and all the CGI characters just got in the way of the dancing.

I think Anneka might be for the DO.

ElspethFlashman · 06/10/2019 12:22

Yeah WTF? DH said "well I guess this week is sponsored by Pixar". Hmm

I actually felt a bit sorry for Anton - they're the same teeth Craig has been looking at for a decade!

Fun to see Craig properly dying though.

RageAgainstTheVendingMachine · 06/10/2019 12:30

Tonight Matthew, I'm going to be... The Sea.
jumpyLiz I applaud you Grin
am saying nowt about Neil and seamen
Chris - I liked the routine
Karim - my son liked the routine (he wanted to vote for Po, Pikachu and Batman. He is 6 but we will still hold it against him!)
They didn't fatsuit him as much as Aljaz's charleston Baloo but nonetheless not great
Nice to see Stacey supporting Kev
BabyWarz heats up and SisterWarz is a new twist on the famalam vote ( not that 'if we win I will buy my wife a new fridge' worked for Stavros Fklatley last night: Sometimes audiences see through relatable)
Johannes covering up Catherine's backside with the guitar was unintentionally hilarious. The only person incorporating a musical instrument into a routine should be Kate Bush
confiscates Johannes's guitar Grin
Johannes and Oti would be fab together. She used to partner Keo iirc.
Will - you made my son smile. But even he couldn't cope with the pikachu costume (Pikachu isn't a girl, should be furry etc)
Kelvin - loved the start but clunky lifts and a cartwheel that wasn't that much better than Chris's last week. Tens? Confused
Someone mentioned Molly Ringwald - I wouldn't mind a Pretty in Pink Breakfast club number or Hughes's Some kind of wonderful
The Viscountess - surprisingly lovely expression wise, very good maid-twist, fair play to her. I had her down as leaving but would be surprised if she left on this
Aljaz always gaps except with me cos I is fat!
The plastic surgery twins were a gruesome twosome
Anneka - great movie to choose but should have just done a jazz fighty concept, irrespective of the poorness of the choreo and dancing you cannot do jolly gurny charleston as an assassin
Did Kevin actually choreograph that?
360 Kevin from Grimsby (but also known on Digital Spy as tree frog Kevin from jumping around in a routine with Susanna Reid)
I like Lorde's version of Everybody Wants to Rule the World. I preferred Ore's paso to it and I liked Danica's tango with Val on DWTS to the same number (it sank her I think as in the choreo and edit they made it look as iif she was hungry for the Strictly crown) but Saffron did well. She has big boobs like me, balance isn't easy!
I don't remotely fancy AJ and I am pushing 50 so it's not 'women of a certain age'. I think he has a strong gay vote and some young voters think he's cute. He comes across as too young, almost asexual to me rather than twink. But in the paso at least he was feistier than usual rather than Barbie Ken.
Katya looked stunning but her pratfall in Claude 9 won't endear her. Mike's sequins also lovely and I admired him for getting through that.
Was Nadija meant to be Poison Ivy as opposed to Batman's gf Vicky? Better than last week. David's lack of personality is actually how Batman comes across(guarded, aloof, withdrawn, traumatised!). Not much Viennese but nice routine.
Emma B - much much better than expected. In fairness Anton nailed his character too without resorting too much to OTT laughs/comedy. I didn't see much salsa from either of them but that's that theming for you - I thought they might been in danger but glad they're not based on this
Dev - decent enough routine (we watched Aladdin on Friday) but not as daredevil or as energetic as thought it would be (given the accident that might be expected)

Overall - enjoyable.

ElspethFlashman · 06/10/2019 12:45

It occurred to me last night during the training bit that if AJ shaved his head we'd all want to shag him. Cos his face is stunning, it's just the Little Lord Fauntleroy hair that puts people off.

Lots of sympathy voting for Chris seems to have happened, so Craigs critiques have backfired a bit.

SchadenfreudePersonified · 06/10/2019 12:59

I want to get a kitten but the idea of fleas being immune to meds just puts me off.

I would recommend "Bavecto" - not cheap, but it lasts three months and is EXCELLENT for fleas.

Ours were gone in days (literally), even though on previous occasions its taken a couple of weeks to dispel the little buggers (because, of course, the cats go a-wandering and re-stock).

But honestly - it is good stuff.

I don't mind sharing this information even though you are unfairly prejudiced against spoons and tubas .

Myimaginarycathasfleas · 06/10/2019 13:45

Noooo! AJ looks like a chorister! (well I suppose there might be a niche interest but I don't want to think about that).

Zoidbergonthehalfshell · 06/10/2019 14:38

This being the Strictly thread...I'm trying to find the video of Danny Mac's samba with Oti with the judges' reactions. I can find the dance, but it cuts off before they get to the comments, which seem to have disappeared into the ether. Can anybody help?

Horsemad · 06/10/2019 15:25

Currently watching on catch-up and have come to say WTH? Kelvin's Charleston was NOT worth 10s!! 😲

For me it had barely any content, swivels went downhill throughout the dance, the lifts were laboured.

I was quite disappointed with it tbh and shocked at the scoring. 🤔

xsquared · 06/10/2019 15:41

It occurred to me last night during the training bit that if AJ shaved his head we'd all want to shag him. Cos his face is stunning, it's just the Little Lord Fauntleroy hair that puts people off.

There is absolutely nothing that would tempt me to shag AJ. He's extremely vain.

OP posts:
SoupDragon · 06/10/2019 15:49

Unlike all the other pros 🤣

iklboo · 06/10/2019 15:51

Sorry I wouldn't touch AJ if he was the last man on earth and the cats had gone off Philadelphia Grin

He looks like he's got a packet of Supernoodles on his head.

xsquared · 06/10/2019 15:53

Unlike all the other pros 🤣

Fair point but he's always looking in mirrors as his celebs say, and seems to be especially vain that it's on another level.
