I see Norrie has lost to Medvedev whilst this match has been going on, which means Dan Evans will be the new British no.1 next week, unless Murray wins this tournament, perhaps.

Going back to earlier musings about Andy's protected ranking, apparently the Australian Open organisers are saying that he could play the tournament with a protected ranking of 2.

That would certainly explain why I can't get my head around the time difference!

does that mean he'd be seeded 2 though - surely that would be madness?!? Or is it just that he'd get in based on his old ranking of No2 but will just be in the draw unseeded? I think when Delpo came back last time, he wasn't seeded at tournaments - but not totally sure.

I'd love Andy to win the Aus Open (realise next year probably not realistic though!). All those finals... Maybe one day.

No, he won't be seeded 2, it just means that he won't have to go through qualifying/get a WC , if he's outside the top 100 or so. And I'm still a bit by the fact nearly 3 years after the initial injury, the protected ranking still applies. Surely it has nearly run out?

He will have to win the tournament to get back to British number 1 I think. Which is a bit of a big ask, even if he is playing better.

Is the ranking protected for a certain number of tournaments? He was a bit stop start over a long period of time, so if he didn't play that many tournaments, maybe he's still got a few in the bag? Didn't he get a couple of wildcards in the US over the summer, so he kept his powder dry there aswell.

Yes I think the protected ranking goes off the number of tournaments but surely there must be a time limit as well?

kazza I think that's how it works, it just seems a bit drawn out. It's probably because he just hasn't been able to progress far enough in any tournament to get high enough in the rankings yet not to rely on it.

They have these toilet cubicles in NZ that are self-cleaning - allegedly. After you go out and shut the door they spray water and cleaning stuff everywhere ready for the next person.

Now that I've written that I'm thinking that can't be true - how does the toilet roll stay dry, for one thing?! Maybe someone was having me on.
