Omg watching the second season, so hard to watch but so brilliant, anyone else "enjoying" watching intelligent grown men and women endure ritual humiliation in the pursuit of wealth and success?

I am loving this show, and can't wait to see how much more awful any of them can become. Money lust at its very lowest point. Yet, they are fascinating. I cannot figure out what Shiv gets from being with Tom. No clue what holds them together, or brought them together.

Watch last night, and must say that I almost fainted with ... I don't know what ball of emotion hit me, to be honest - fear, shame, pride, horror - when I saw that the next episode is called Dundee. And set in, yep, Dundee. I so hope they don't make a total mockery of Brian's home town. And mine.

He goes by Gregory now Grin Grin

Iamblossom · 19/09/2019 16:35

I think Shiv likes the status of being married and the freedom of doing whatever the hell she wants as Tom is basically her beard.

2018 as for shiv and Tom there have been a couple of opaque references to her being in a bad place in the past and how he got her better? So I think that’s still to play out but I expect all will become clear in future seasons.

I fully expect this show to go on and on and on.

Is everyone up to date with the episode? The lastest one?

We here, for you!

2018SoFarSoGreat · 19/09/2019 18:32

thanks re Shiv and Tom. BEARD. That's what my DH said. I too think we need the back story on this one.

or is it: We HEAR, for you :) Very funny either way.

rookiemere · 19/09/2019 18:43

Oh I love it too. The first episode was hard as all the characters initially seemed to be so unlikeable, but over time they get to you. The acting is amazing although I'm not sure if Mathew McFadyen isn't taking Tom a step too far as it's very hard to see why Shiv would have been initially attracted to hum.

Atalune · 19/09/2019 18:56

Hear/here yes I can’t quite remember! So funny.

Bubbinsmakesthree · 24/09/2019 07:24

I’m interested in the Tom/Shiv backstory too. On the one hand Tom is completely self-centred, everything is seen through the lens of how it affects him and his own ambition. So you’d imagine that his relationship with Shiv started from who she is, her wealth and connections. And yet I do think he genuinely adores her, in a way it seems she once needed but now finds stifling. You can see in how brutally Logan cuts Shiv down in the latest episode the kind of circumstances that might have drawn her to someone like Tom, with his puppy-like adoration, and whom she clearly feels is her inferior.

Bubbinsmakesthree · 24/09/2019 07:35

And that latest episode....wow.

If I had any doubt that Kendall’s emotional state is a product of his guilt around the car crash then that has been erased. Him in the house of the boy’s family...wow. I loved the little detail of him washing up his glass.

willywillywillywilly · 24/09/2019 11:51

Oh my god the cruelty of making Kendall go there.. and the way his life has made him so insulated/isolated from his emotions and people, that his gesture of atonement was to push cash through their door!

frazzledtofook · 24/09/2019 12:43

Last night's episode was pure brilliance. May rewatch just to relive the hour again !

2018SoFarSoGreat · 24/09/2019 15:54

That was the hardest episode to watch. How to cut all of your kids to the core. Kendall in that kitchen was excruciating.

Bubbinsmakesthree · 24/09/2019 17:25

Logan is constantly disappointed that his children fail to measure up to his standards and yet any time they show a hint of the kind of behaviour that Logan himself has used build his success he cuts them down (Shiv having independent views on the business, Ken giving an honest assessment in the optics of his relationship with Rhea). The only time we’ve really seen Logan acting with any care or consideration towards his children was when Ken was an empty shell doing his father’s bidding. That’s all he seems to want, blind obedience.

Herocomplex · 26/09/2019 21:46

Wow, just watched the latest episode, what an outrageously cruel family. Raving narcissists, sociopaths, gaslighting - everything! Imagine having the cash of the ex Mrs Roy and cooking your own pigeons...

Atalune · 27/09/2019 07:54

And the mum! So emotionally unavailable, totally perplexed with kendals attempt to confide in her.

She couldn’t exit from them fast enough.

They are all so toxic!

I love it.

Herocomplex · 27/09/2019 07:59

Wanting them for Christmas as if they’re children, but purely to get one over on Logan.

I think the worst thing is the idea that if this is how things are when they’re adults how dreadful was it when they were children.

midsomermurderess · 27/09/2019 17:26

Wanting them for a Christmas but can't listen to a child clearly in anguish, and taking off first thing so she doesn't have to deal with them. The kids were fucked up from both sides.

midsomermurderess · 27/09/2019 17:29

Rhea clearly is positioning herself for the succession. Stuffing Shiv with the prospect of a job with Pearson (how was that in her gift?), saying Kendall is basically wearing big nappies and dissing Roman as not ready. Doubt it'll pay off though.

Atalune · 27/09/2019 18:44

I don’t want it to turn into Logan losing his way because of Rhea. I feel like that is quite an old fashioned trope and Succession has so far absolutely obliterated any other drama out there.

Herocomplex · 27/09/2019 18:59

Yes, Rhea wasn’t offering anything real, she had no capital left with Nan, it was all a bluff, which Logan then followed up on. She’ll be shafted too.

Ken putting the money through the letterbox was harrowing. It’s what he was always given I suppose, instead of any love - have this to make up for everything.

Atalune · 27/09/2019 19:10

And the thing with the ££ through the letter box, it was so little!! Maybe £500. Which is like pocket change that he’d find down the side of the couch!

It made me feel really weird.

midsomermurderess · 27/09/2019 20:17

And the dead's boy family will be wondering just where, from whom, that money came. They are bound to link it to the visit. Won't go well.

Doingtheboxerbeat · 30/09/2019 11:33

This weeks episode is a comedic gift. All I can say is L to the OG will be what I will be singing /rapping all week. Omfg, can't wait to read the responses when you all catch up.

willywillywillywilly · 02/10/2019 10:13

doingtheboxerbeat Oh god!! I nearly cringed myself inside out Grin

Herocomplex · 02/10/2019 11:00

I’m still processing it.

But Ken dropping that actress like a stone was brutal.
