13 Reason Why season 3

Has anyone watched any of it yet?
I saw the trailer while DC2 was napping this afternoon and I’m debating whether to give it a watch once DCs are in bed later.
I’ve watched the first 2 seasons, and while I know it’s not meant to be “enjoyable” due to the subject matter, the infamous “broomstick scene” at the end of season 2 is one of the very few TV moments that has genuinely shaken me and made me feel physically sick Sad
Any nasty surprises like that I should be aware of before I commit??

I'm on episode 3. I'm not really enjoying it tbh, there is a new girl in it who has stuck her beak into everything, and thinks she knows everyone better than anyone.

So far there is an abortion scene which some might struggle with (not graphic, but you can hear clinking of equipment that sort of thing).

ThePolishWombat · 23/08/2019 21:31

I’ve watched the first 2 episodes and it’s just seems like it’s “setting the scene” Hmm Not much really happening. And the jumps between time periods is messing with my head!

Aye, Arnie is quite irritating as she reminds me of when an abusive man gets a new girlfriend who doesn't listen to any warnings she is given and dismisses her boyfriends exes as 'crazy' and thinks she will be the one to heal and save him. I think the reason she is narrating instead of Clay is that he can be seriously considered as a suspect but I think she is a contender. I'm also up to episode 3.

ThePolishWombat · 25/08/2019 06:53

I’m up to episode 6 now, and I’m starting to think Bryce’s mother could be a serious contender Confused

I refuse to accept that it could be Tony. Sweet, beautiful, wonderful Tony Grin you. And do no wrong my angel! Grin

I have completed the seasonBlush
The episodes aren't as upsetting and graphic this season, like Hannah's suicide and Tylers attack, though the sex scenes are very detailed. I had to skip them as it felt weird with it being school children an allConfused

Ani doesn't get any more bearable, she reminds me of those loud flies that keep buzzing near you, that you just can get rid of.

ThePolishWombat · 26/08/2019 12:53

1984 DCs have just gone down for a nap, so I’ve started episode 10!
I keep thinking I know “whodunnit” and then they throw a new spanner in the works Hmm

OP posts:
cheesydoesit · 26/08/2019 19:53

Onto episode 5, I had hoped that Ani would have some purpose in the end. Oh my God she is so awful! It's really getting to me, the attempts to empathise with Bryce and the way no one us just plainly calling her out about the fact she has been there for 2 minutes and she is so over familiar and forward with people and their intimate goings on.

ThePolishWombat · 26/08/2019 20:05

Without giving away spoilers, I actually found myself in a bit of an inner conflict during episode 8/9 regarding Bryce Confused Very clever story writing there to make you question your own morals and have a little fight with your emotions and logic!
I kind of found myself think “aww that’s actually quite sweet”......then slap myself and remember “oh shit, but he’s still a serial rapist” ConfusedBlush

I do empathise with Bryce and Monty's home lives but there is no excuse for who they became and how they treated people and I just hope it doesn't encourage rape apologists, as if there aren't enough already. Oh my God, could you imagine if you were one of Bryce's victims and you heard those eulogies at his funeral? I understand where you are coming from but it enraged me. This article articulates how I feel with this series. I think it's a disservice to be honest, I'm not finished yet so I will reserve my judgement. I wish Mrs Walker would just break out and to all the men in her life to fuck off though.

Also, all Bryce's favourable moments are a perfect example of the cycle of abuse. No one is a monster all of the time. It wouldn't work if they were. Oh my God, Ani is talking again. Angry Need a vomit face.

ThePolishWombat · 26/08/2019 21:27

cheesy hit the nail on the head right there.

As for Monty....I honestly couldn’t give a fuck how made his home life is Angry Evil cunt deserves everything he gets after what he did to Tyler.
I’ve never been so shaken up by a television scene as I was by “that episode” at the end of season 2 Sad I honestly almost vomited because I was that upset/disgusted/shocked by what I was seeing Sad

bad not “made” Blush

Yes, poor Tyler, it was horrible. I think the article I linked makes a good point about Clay and his polar attitudes to Hannah and Tyler not wanting to name their rapists. Also I feel uncomfortable with how the rape of Tyler was received by viewers versus any other rape on the show. They are all horrific attacks that change the lives of victim but I just feel that your bog standard 'garden variety' rape of a woman is less shocking and sensationalist on television now and so it is easier to empathise when the perpetrator is shown to want to be rehabilitated. Honestly, some of the comments I have read on twitter and youtube regarding Bruce and how he wanted to change and his life was cut short before he could fully redeem himself have made me feel sick and so angry. I feel this is reflected in real life in cases such as Brock Turner where the judge didn't want to hinder his future swimming career on the basis of 'one mistake'.

The worst and most frightening scene I have watched in recent television was in This is England (I think 86) when Lol's dad rapes Trev. For me it was pretty terrifying, the way he made her obey by his threatening presence. Very scary and sad and stayed with me for days afterwards.

ThePolishWombat · 27/08/2019 07:02

cheesy You’re right about that - the rape of women in general just seems to be not quite “socially accepted” as something that happens, but less shocking than a male victim for some reason.
I don’t know if because with Tyler is was a foreign object that shocked me more? Like it was done solely to cause pain and terror to the victim - if Monty was after sexual gratification then sure he would have just committed rape in the conventional sense?! Like Mrs Baker has said this series to Bryce (in a flashback), he did what he did to Hannah because he thought he had some god-given right to rape her daughter because he wanted sexual gratification and didn’t care how he got it. I feel that’s the difference between Tyler and Hannah’s experiences as victims Sad Both utterly fucking horrific, but in different ways.

Finished it, I still hate most of the characters and found myself feeling that they were all as bad as each other by the end.

cheesydoesit · 28/08/2019 15:59

Yeah me too MorganKitten. In fact I forwarded through a lot of the dross in the last few episodes. I really didn't like all the 'shades of grey' and 'oooh he's so misunderstood/still a human being' guff, I didn't think it was complex or clever, I thought it undermined all the pain of the previous storylines and was pretty distasteful.

ThePolishWombat · 28/08/2019 16:34

Without ruining the ending....please tell me that Tony, the man who can do no wrong, my beautiful angel Tony still comes out smelling of roses?! Grin

Gratefully signing in, not started series three yet. The finale of s2 had me ugly crying and I need to feel a bit braver before I start

MorganKitten · 28/08/2019 16:42

@ThePolishWombat no one comes out of it well

@cheesydoesit but he came off almost the most human and the others just vindictive. No one grew, no one learned anything, except Tyler. No explanation of missing characters and awful new ones.

Nuttyaboutnutella · 28/08/2019 16:48

I finished watching S3 yesterday. I hated Ani, she annoyed me so much throughout. I genuinely couldn't guess who killed Bryce but whilst I understand the reasons why the real killer did it, I also felt there were better characters for the storyline.

ThePolishWombat · 28/08/2019 17:37

Morgan fuck Sad

I’m on episode 11, and I think I have an inkling about who it is...but I’m most likely wrong!!

OP posts:
ThePolishWombat · 28/08/2019 17:38

And yes - I will jump on the Ani hate wagon Hmm
She’s just annoying.
Nothing worse than a character whose just been brought in to fill the gaps between time-jumps.

I've just finished the series (took 7 days exactly, new record I think!). Gosh Ani is so annoying, and her annoying-ness is taken to a whole new level in the last episode. Without giving anything away, I found the last ep a bit of an anti climax, especially as the rest of the series I thought was really good. It was dragged on, and I don't actually think they've given any depth to the story of who actually did it. I guess they might go into it in series 4, otherwise it just seems a bit lazy!

AnyFucker · 29/08/2019 22:10

Please remind me where this can be watched ?
