This is the thread for Episode 8 (season 3) of The Handmaid's Tale.

We are watching on Channel 4, UK pace and have only seen episodes 1 - 7 so far.

Please, NO SPOILERS.

Last week's thread took a rather strange turn, so please, play nicely people.

And I shouldn't have to spell it out, but when it says "Please, NO SPOILERS", that means we don't want people who have watched ahead to come on here and deliberately or inadvertently reveal what is actually going to happen in future episodes.

Anything else is speculation, whether that is based on what has already taken place in the TV series or is based on events in the novel (including the Historical Notes epilogue).

Just because something happened in the book doesn't mean it's also guaranteed to take place in the TV series.

Blessed day.

Thanks Op. Can I also ask that no one repeats what a friend has said about a future episode as I think that's a spoiler too (& read that earlier on the other non-spoiler thread). Thanks!

BrienneofTarthILoveYou · 28/07/2019 20:14

Looking forward to tonight's episode - feel very scared for June, Nicole and Emily. Please don't let Emily or Nicole be sent back as I won't be able to handle that. I believe Emily would (& likely should Sad) commit suicide rather than be sent back as the torture she would suffer is awful.

Crinkle77 · 28/07/2019 20:55

We have not been blessed with good weather today that's for sure.

GarethSouthgatesWaistcoat · 28/07/2019 20:58

I hope it picks up the pace a bit in tonight's episode Hmm

GarethSouthgatesWaistcoat · 28/07/2019 20:58

Still looking forward to it regardless!

Checking in...

Crinkle77 · 28/07/2019 21:11

June is getting right on my tits.

Crinkle77 · 28/07/2019 21:12

June is a nasty horrible bitch. Never thought I would say that.

bookishtartlet · 28/07/2019 21:13

My sky isn't working??? How long until it appears on catchup does anyone know?

Roussette · 28/07/2019 21:14

Oh interesting. We're going to see what makes ALydia the way she is

bungleZippy12 · 28/07/2019 21:14

June has gone too far!

JoxerGoesToStuttgart · 28/07/2019 21:15

I feel like I’m watching someone’s GCSE drama assessment.

Babbabump · 28/07/2019 21:18

Was that handmaid the one from aunt Lydia’s past?? I can’t decide :)

Crinkle77 · 28/07/2019 21:22

Hmmm Aunt Lydia's back story almost helps you to understand where she got the idea that Gilead gave women 'freedom from'. The little boys mother would no longer have to put up with being groped by men.

OytheBumbler · 28/07/2019 21:23

Signing in for this week.

MadgeMak · 28/07/2019 21:23

I don't think June went too far. Yes it was incredibly nasty but that other handmaid didn't seem to give a shit about causing someone's execution, maybe if she gets a taste of her own medicine she'll think twice about snitching again.

CruCru · 28/07/2019 21:25

To be fair, June has never been a “nice” character.

It’s good to see Aunt Lydia being warm and “normal” - weird to see her with long hair.

Crinkle77 · 28/07/2019 21:28

Thing is Madge as Janine said she was only doing as Aunt Lydia told her.

Roussette · 28/07/2019 21:29

Blimey, it seems like less than 5 minutes and another ad break

MadgeMak · 28/07/2019 21:30

She didn't have to do as aunt Lydia told her though, she chose to quite willingly.

Crinkle77 · 28/07/2019 21:32

I'm interested to know how Aunt Lydia went from this caring, nurturing teacher to the evil that she displays now but then every now and then you she flashes of who she used to be when acts nurturing towards the handmaids.

JoxerGoesToStuttgart · 28/07/2019 21:32

The little boys mother would no longer have to put up with being groped by men.

Confused

Is that sarcasm? The mother would either be a handmaid or in Jezebel’s. To be groped against her will at any time by any man who wanted to.

Applesandpears23 · 28/07/2019 21:32

I can’t believe the way June is speaking to Commander Lawrence. He is so much more secure than Fred. The response “I bet that felt good.” is so patronising and self important. But without any hint that what she said rattled him. I wonder what he really thinks about what she said.

Crinkle77 · 28/07/2019 21:32

Madge I don't think there was much choice about it.
