Jane I thought your dog was sad because Rafa lost Grin

I’ll join the support group - won’t know what to do with myself with no tennis Sad

I’ve been for a walk round the block and listened to a funny podcast so feeling a bit better now.

JaneJeffer · 12/07/2019 21:44

Grin he's a good boy but not that good

What does Boris mean? Grin

JaneJeffer · 12/07/2019 21:47

He's unique just like everyone else!

Checking in. Thanks for the new thread.

Roger won because he had his head together better than Rafa. Have always said (as many have) that tennis is a game played between the ears.

Just hope he can go on & beat Djok.

And Vamos, Halep! Tennis

The80sweregreat · 12/07/2019 21:55

Never mind. Sport sucks sometimes
I won't watch the final. The ironing beckons

PrivateIsles · 12/07/2019 21:57

I agree with that magi. He looked completely unruffled. I don't know whether it was just a poker face, or whether he really was that calm, but he was totally ready for everything Rafa did.

Apparently he had a crack team of statisticians/analysts on the case. Good luck with that working against Djok though. What can you do to beat a human backboard on an (apparently) slow court? What's going to get past him? Not a lot IMO.

PrivateIsles · 12/07/2019 22:01

I still sort of think Rafa was better though Hmm I'm probably just biased.

NothingBreaksLikeAFart · 12/07/2019 22:03

I love Boris. Why do we hate Fed? Is it the smugness? One bonus of him being in the final is he might bring his kids out. They’re really cute.

The80sweregreat · 12/07/2019 22:04

Djokovic May do this and beat Feds
Couldn't really care less either way to be honest!

The80sweregreat · 12/07/2019 22:06

Meanwhile, Tim will be up a ladder somewhere in a hardhat . Or mowing the lawns. He doesn't care either.

Raahh · 12/07/2019 22:10

80s he personally built that roof on number 1 court you know- and they've hardly used it.

He's praying for rain on Sunday. Grin

PrivateIsles · 12/07/2019 22:14

Tim might be panicking - his big project is on a deadline.

I don't hate Roger. I actually quite like him. But I just don't like the love-in surrounding him Hmm
It drives me nuts.

Also - he has won 20 Slams. It'd be nice to see some new blood in the latter stages - and fair play to RBA today, but like I've said a million times before, I want to see a youngster(s) come out with all guns blazing and not give a toss for the big three and all their records, but just wow the crowds with their flair and creativity and youthful exuberance Grin.

That's why it was so disappointing when Tsitsipas went out, because he's someone who'd be capable of that I think, but he didn't even get to that stage! The challengers seem to be getting fewer as time goes on!

Fizzywinegum · 12/07/2019 22:16

Hardhat Henman with his clipboard, paintbrush and lawnmower is now of course a real thing for me Grin (it probably really is - he also approves all the loans as bank manager!)

He’ll be gutted that the new roof’s not been used!

JaneJeffer · 12/07/2019 22:16

I have a few jobs that need doing if Tim is free after Sunday.

Is it Carson's weekend off Jane? Grin

Our garden needs turfing - surely that would be right up Tim's street?!

JaneJeffer · 12/07/2019 22:22

Carson is nowhere to be seen. You just can't get the staff...

Fizzy he is becoming a real thing- and starting to look like Bob the builder in a suit, in my head Grin .

I've never been a Federer fan- before Rafa turned up, there were other players around I liked.
I can't stand the fawning either- between him and Serena, it can make the tournaments unbearable to watch at times.

Private I had high hopes for Tsitsipas- and he's only 20, there's still plenty of time, but I did expect him to make more of an impact.

I'm glad to see Rafa has already qualified for London. He might not make it there, and with it being an indoor tournament, it's always been stacked against him - but I hope he does stay fit and go.

I wonder when /if we will see Delpo again?

PrivateIsles · 12/07/2019 22:33

Yes there's still time for Tsitsipas definitely. Just wish he had done more this Wimbledon. Ah well.

I am holding out hope for Delpo's return. He was playing really well on his latest comeback - he had that match point against Djok in Rome, I don't think he was far away from being back to his best really. The other thing about Delpo is he's not "scared" of the big three the way Keith, Dimitrov etc etc are - he can beat them and he gives them a proper challenge. Stan too when fit. It's just not a good time at the moment IMO, in men's tennis.

Raahh · 12/07/2019 22:37

I think Fed definitely finds playing Delpo tricky. It's such a shame Juan is injured again. I don't know how long the knee will take to heal- Rafa was out 7 months after his surgery- but I guess it depends what needs doing!

Why do I have to be a fan of the injury prone ones??!

JaneJeffer · 12/07/2019 22:37

I hope Sascha gets things sorted out because it's ruining his career.

I feel really down now.

OP posts:
Fizzywinegum · 12/07/2019 22:38

Yes Raahh I’ve got a bit of a Tim/bob the builder image going on as well Grin

I don’t actually mind Federer - I do dislike all the fawning over him and obvious bias towards him. I much prefer his style of play to Djokovic’s which I find boring as he just blocks everything.

I too was disappointed by the so called next gen players - I don’t know whether they found the shock of playing on grass too much or whether they don’t want it enough I don’t really know but they were missed towards the end of the tournament. Tsitsipas and Thiem in particular who had played so well and shown so much commitment at RG.

I don’t know what the answer is but even Roger can’t go on forever and Rafa hinted in his press conference that he is running out of time to win Wimbledon again.

PrivateIsles · 12/07/2019 22:42

Stan needs to give each of us a Bear
And some of that wine he had as well.

Raahh · 12/07/2019 22:45

Jane Sad

Fizzy I think Rafa (though very disappointed) probably didn't expect to get this far again- he said before the tournament , he thought last year was his best shot at winning again.

And it would have been (with the greatest of respect to Kevin, had Rafa reached the final).

I don't know what is happening with Sascha- the legal problems he's having may be affecting a lot more than we realise.

it's been a long day.
