Aw Baghdatis is retiring. Wimbledon is his last tournament. Nice of them to give him a wildcard.

I see Mahut plays in "qualies" today. Surely if anyone deserves a wildcard, it's him?!

I'm glad they have given Marcos a wild card- the other day when they were being discussed, I think it was John Lloyd who felt it was not right he should get one. I didn't agree with him then.

And I totally agree re-Mahut- if anyone deserves one, he does. Maybe he didn't request one?
(I'm still confused over Mahut's retirement plansGrin More so now that his previous doubles partner has ditched him for Murray!).

JaneJeffer · 24/06/2019 10:49

Aww I love cuddly Marcos. What does John Lloyd know? If he had his way box office Kyrgios would be seeded number one for Wimbledon.

Raahh · 24/06/2019 11:39

Jane well, exactly. Grin

Raahh · 24/06/2019 12:00

If anyone is missing their AC fix btw- he is commentating on the 'qualies' over on the red buttonGrin.

The grass is looking so green, it almost looks fake!

Fizzywinegum · 24/06/2019 12:12

I think I had my fill of AC yesterday thanks Raahh Grin

It’s raining at Eastbourne Sad

I think Mahut deserves a wildcard for Wimbledon. Is his retirement going to take as long as Ferrer’s? Smile

I can tune out Jim Courier quite easily Jane but AC is more difficult - I keep thinking he’s going to say something interesting but he never does!

PrivateIsles · 24/06/2019 12:19

That's the problem isn't it Fizzy - AC's comments are difficult to tune out.

Have got the "qualies" on at the mo as well - I heard AC's dulcet tones! Not sure who the Aussie commentator is but she seems to be talking sense - so it's probably the last we'll hear of her.

I've never heard of this British guy. James (Jack) Duckworth though - didn't he play Rafa at the Aus Open?? Or am I getting my young Aussies mixed up? Anyway. Lleyton Hewitt is there watching.

The grass does look v green. And the clouds look grey. Fairly standard.

Remember that heatwave we had this time last year?? Sigh.

OP posts:
Raahh · 24/06/2019 12:20

It is very rainy here too. Fortunately, I got the dog walked before it started. Again.

The weather this year will not favour Rafa at Wimbledon- the courts were like deserts within days, due to the heat wave, last year. Slowed them down, which will have been good for him. So, I'm hoping for a freak heat wave to happen very soon. Grin

Apparently, parts of France are now getting 40 degree heat waves- after the storms during RG.

Raahh · 24/06/2019 12:25

I've heard of Duckworth, kept ending up getting drawn against big names on the main tour (Murray beat him in his match at the US Open, as well as Rafa in Melbourne)- but he seems to have ended up mainly in the challengers this year.

Raahh · 24/06/2019 12:27

(I think he's Australian)

PrivateIsles · 24/06/2019 12:48

Yes he was being interviewed afterwards and I really recognised him!

Now it's Vesely v Bolleli - some really good players in qualifying. Moutet is playing as well.

Sigh re the weather Raahh, if it stays like this it's not good for Rafa is it? I think it is meant to get warmer though. Fingers crossed.

I am looking forward to Wimbledon, despite the big gap where Delpo should have been Sad and the Murray mentionitis which is bound to infect all the commentary.

If the weather picks up Rafa could do well again - I really hope so. If not, would absolutely love it if Tsitsipas could win it. And Kvitova or Barty on the women's side. Dream on though, probably!...

For Wimbledon I'm

ABD for the men (Anyone But Djok)

ABS for the women (Anyone But Serena)

The rain here, at Eastbourne, is just irritating on/off short showers. Looking much brighter atm.

Raahh · 24/06/2019 13:05

I hope Stefanos can build on how well he started out at Queen's- he seemed to fade a little in his last match, but I think he's starting to like the big stage.

I'm Sad about Delpo, after the Rafa match last year, I was hoping for more. Now I just hope he recovers.
I also hope that memories of that match will quash mentions of The List of course it won't.

Realistically, even Rafa has said his days of winning at Wimbledon are probably behind him(and he was so close last year)- but you never know what the draw will throw up. I would love him to at least equal last year's performance.

Murray-mentionitis will be rife- and I will be very interested in how they manage the schedule - doubles is often on the outside courts to start with, as they need to get the big singles matches played. Will they really put Murray somewhere other than centre?

Of course, my bingo card is poised for the return of Serena (apparently she's had a baby).

And could a certain UPS courier be going for title number 9Grin (that will be mentioned a lot- Sue has had her Fe9erer t-shirt packed since last year Grin).

JaneJeffer · 24/06/2019 13:10

JaneJeffer · 24/06/2019 13:15

Anyone But Djok

Even Stan magi? BearGrin

PrivateIsles · 24/06/2019 13:17

a certain UPS courier
Grin it's a shame he won't be able to wear his lovely uniform in SW19.

Funny you should mention "the List" Raahh - Wimbledon has literally just tweeted that Lucas Rosol won in qualifying today: "Rosol, who famously beat Rafa..." etc. Sure, why miss an opportunity to mention that?!

I really hope Rafas's chances of winning Wimbledon aren't behind him. I like the NBD approach as well magi Grin

I'm hoping Sascha does well at Wimbledon but I know he's very busy booking flights and whatnot.

The weather is supposed to improve later in the week.

Raahh · 24/06/2019 13:18

Oh, I would love Stan Bear to do well.

Bloody hell, AC is an idiot.

The Pliskova's are twins ffs.

Raahh · 24/06/2019 13:19

Which he has just corrected. Idiot.

PrivateIsles · 24/06/2019 13:19

Ooh yes - The Stan Slam Grin

He's just playing mind games with all this "I'm rubbish on grass" stuff. Allez Stan! Bear

OP posts:
Raahh · 24/06/2019 13:21

Jane Sascha will be very busy with all his admin, finding somewhere to stay and all that.

We need another ATP scandal to upset Djok's rhythm. It certainly seemed to get into his head, all the Kermode business.

magimedi · 24/06/2019 13:25

Even Stan Jane.

Raahh · 24/06/2019 13:27

Grigor will not want to be drawn against Stan again, that's for sure!

Poor Grigor.

magimedi · 24/06/2019 13:30

When is the draw for Wimbledon?

And another question, while we wait for tennis.

Why do the umpires say Mr. Lopez (for example) has 2 challenges remaining but use just the surname when it's advantage Lopez?
