I was hoping for a twist of it being Chantelle being the abuser but of course in EE world all middle-class professional types are Very Bad People so I think gorgeous Gray will be out by new year, with the domestic abuse story being exposed at Christmas.

Laila Morse was even more crap than usual tonight.

Akire · 12/07/2019 21:19

It takes people months train for a 10k suddenly they are all fit to go in 48h and find dreaded sponsorship.

The80sweregreat · 12/07/2019 21:46

Poor poor Chantelle! Even dh felt sorry for her and he doesn't watch it usually. We hate Grey now. What a snake.
Let's hope Karen gets wind and sorts him out
I was hoping for a twist , but this is little mo and Trevor all over (sad to say. )
Red flags 🚩 all over this creep
Ditch him Chantelle
Big mo is also a nightmare as is creepy dentist
It's all very dark at the moment

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 12/07/2019 22:28

It's all very dark at the moment

But I'm warming to Stuart Grin

HouseOfMouse · 13/07/2019 00:21

I can’t really work out why Adam is with Honey - he doesn’t seem to love her, plus she has two kids and he doesn’t seem to interact with them that much. Why would he move in with her? (Though of course she’s not on the mortgage so she’ll come out of this with nothing.). The actor (Adam) is 49, and I guess Habiba is early 20’s so they wouldn’t have exactly grown up together.

The80sweregreat · 13/07/2019 08:48

Ahh, Stuart
For a cold blooded murderer messed up psycho he does have a sweet vulnerability about him which keeps you guessing. I'm glad they kept him in the soap as his more unpredictable than many and does try to be nice ! Bless him.
I want Karen to find out about Grey and put him in his place . Mitch will try to kill him I think. Nasty man
His justifications for beating her up was quite believeable . Blokes like him always try to justify it all / always someone else's fault
It's never them

The80sweregreat · 13/07/2019 08:56

It's true , Adam doesn't even like Honey much ! I can't see why his with her unless it's a convenient way of covering up seeing Habiba as that would never be accepted by auntie and uncle , so it's just a cover that suits him. Miriam knows about them but is hoping it will fizzle out I guess.
I hated Honey in that dress as she's just not like that ! Trying to change is never good

Mrsjayy · 13/07/2019 09:04

It's a sad day when we are warming to stuart Grin

Mrsjayy · 13/07/2019 09:07

Ive not watched last nights but I've seen things on facebook poor chantelle

The80sweregreat · 13/07/2019 09:08

I have been strangely drawn to Stuart plus his a good actor and can flip about between personalities. I agree it's bad though!
He can be very dangerous
Not a wife beater though as far as we know anyway

Mrsjayy · 13/07/2019 09:12

I love Stuart he is a great character I love we are warming to him

JoxerGoesToStuttgart · 13/07/2019 10:45

His justifications for beating her up was quite believeable

Yes, it’s reflecting the Margaret Attwood quote “men are afraid women will laugh at them. Women are afraid men will kill them”

The80sweregreat · 13/07/2019 11:30

Grey was trying to pin it all on her . Woe is me so I can take it out on you and hit you
The writers have that right unfortunately. Deep down they are cowards but very dangerous ones.
Let's hope his found out fairly quickly

Blutopia · 13/07/2019 14:07

I've dipped into this thread having watched last night's episode...maybe I'm just unobservant but I felt like this DV storyline for Grey and Chantelle has been suddenly bestowed on them, I'd never noticed anything brewing before? I'd have expected weeks of weighted glares, mystery bruises, odd reactions etc, but they seemed pretty vanilla to me. In fact I wondered what the point of them was.

I also didn't understand why Mitch was abruptly so anti-Grey, they'd been more or less okay and suddenly the relationship was strained?

D'you think they occasionally have to rewrite entire sections and reinvent back stories to set up a new storyline, when something already written doesn't go to plan and has to be scrapped for some reason?

That's how the Grey & Chantelle scenario feels to me, but what do I know.

SoupDragon · 13/07/2019 14:35

There have been hints that something is wrong with Grey and Chantelle (and not just because they seemed too perfect 😂)

SoupDragon · 13/07/2019 14:35

He seemed very controlling.

In his attack, he carefully chose to punch her where it wouldn't show at all.

Blutopia · 13/07/2019 14:48

Hmm yes maybe there has been signs...i guess they were quite subtle so rather than waiting for the big reveal (that has now arrived) I just forgot about them!

SoupDragon · 13/07/2019 14:50

This thread probably has the discussion about signs that all was not well. One was that she never had money of her own or something, he gave it to her.

Mrsjayy · 13/07/2019 15:20

There has been signs it has been really subtle and i guess that is how Domestic abuse goes abusers are not all outwardly thuggish and bad tempered and abused women have mostly outside lives and jobs and don't act abused.

Akire · 13/07/2019 15:42

Things like her running as soon as he rang even if was in pub about to buy a drink. Though I wish they didn’t always have the abuser saying sorry after. Years back when I was young and stupid an ex would be violent but because he was never sorry after and we weren't married it wasn’t like DV I saw on TV, so never realised what it was.

The80sweregreat · 13/07/2019 15:53

Hitting her where it wouldn't be seen is also classic DV (sad to say.)

Blutopia · 13/07/2019 15:55

Ah I see...yes,i haven't been on the thread for a while.

No of course nobody "acts abused", I suppose I meant that hints that something is building are normally fairly crass or obvious in soapland, and I didn't pick up on it.

It's an intriguing point though isn't it - in reality it's never obvious, no matter how perceptive you think you are. An unusually tactful PSA from EE there.

Mrsjayy · 13/07/2019 16:02

When they did abuse before with little mo it was so in your face trevor wasn't liked much where as Gray is charasmatic has buddies helps out blahdeblah which is scarier and maybe truer to the real thing.

Blutopia · 13/07/2019 16:16

Thinking about it I wondered why Grey (Gray?) was being set up as Mr Perfect, but I'd forgotten that I'd pondered on what he was hiding. Seems like ages ago.

Fair play to EE for making it true to life. I'll never forget how gobsmacked I was when I discovered that my BF of 35 years had been in regular fistfights with her 2nd husband over a ten year period. We live 100s of miles apart and I only met him twice - once at their wedding - but even so. She told me after they had separated, and we were on a rare walk together. I just gaped at her. Sad

The80sweregreat · 13/07/2019 16:58

I have heard of a few cases of DV etc after the people have split up or divorced.
Seemed all rosy at the time : don't know what goes on behind closed doors is a true saying.

A distant family member lives with a woman who verbally abuses him and she is also a borderline alcoholic , but he would never leave her.
It's all a lot more common than you think and very sad.
Let's hope someone cottons on to what is happening to Chantelle and she can get some help.
