Can't find a thread in this so thought I'd start it because it's been fantastic up to episode 2 so far.

I wasn't sure who was in it and then as it started I realised Louise bloody Mensch is in it!! Well done producers, what a great signing, she did not disappoint Wink

Don't want to do spoilers in case any one is yet to watch (few more weeks to go)

OP posts:

I caught up with it last night. I've never watched any of the SAS programmes before but I'm hooked Grin I would be absolutely hopeless at all of it!
I had to Google who some of them were and now I'm wondering about the dynamic between the two who are husbands of The Saturdays since one cheated on his wife. . .
Victoria Pendleton seems very fit and determined. I liked her a lot.

Deathraystare · 18/04/2019 11:29

I really enjoyed this! I am afraid I would be one of those weepy "don't shout at me" types. No point me even thinking I could take part. I know my limitations!!

DocMarteens · 18/04/2019 14:42

I like to think I could hack it but just a few minutes into the discomfort I'd be thinking "what's the point of this?!"

I hope Victoria Pendleton comes across well because what I've seen of her so far I've liked. I read in an interview how she could push herself in the velodrome because her dad taught her that it was just pain. I find sportswomen like her so impressive.

nowifi · 18/04/2019 18:19

I really like this show too. Finding Sam from MIC a bit annoying! Can't believe the female rugby player, she is a machine!

Grosserygangrule · 18/04/2019 18:55

Really enjoying it too, dislike Sam especially after his poor partner collapsed carrying all the weight while he moaned with a log.

Heather is a machine and Victoria seems really determined,

No way could I do it though

TheweewitchRoz · 18/04/2019 23:00

I'm enjoying it too. Hadn't thought about WB and BF both being married to Saturdays singers.

Love Heather - total machine. Not seen much of Camilla so hoping she's good. Agree Sam is annoying so hope he gets some personal growth from it.

I was hoping Andrea would have stayed in for longer so I'm disappointed she's gone now.

LillithsFamiliar · 18/04/2019 23:04

I actually quite like Sam Blush I think he does have a degree of self-awareness ('I'm a sheep not a shepherd' ) but has been terribly spoiled. If he lasts, I think he'll have more self respect by the end.

TheweewitchRoz · 18/04/2019 23:29

I agree @LillithsFamiliar

AtSea1979 · 18/04/2019 23:30

Forgot about this, need to catch up

feesh · 19/04/2019 03:56

I was watching this last night and I don’t understand why they were so harsh to A.J. after she collapsed. They were on the verge of chucking her out, yet she’d been carrying Sam’s sodding bags! And then they beasted her in the water. I don’t get it.

Yet when Andrea McLean was feeling weak, they were extra kind to her.

Have I missed something or was it blatant racism?

DocMarteens · 19/04/2019 13:25

I think Andrea has medical reasons with the hypothermia that meant they couldn't push harder. With AJ I thought they were making a point with her not to take on someone's weakness because it will disadvantage you. She should have made Sam carry his fair share and come in even later. He has to withdraw if he can't keep up with the pace of the others.

Sux2buthen · 19/04/2019 14:06

I think they just believe AJ can go further and that Andrea, although doing amazingly well probably wouldn't have finished the show. AJ wants it more I think and they most likely already know from experience who can succeed.

LillithsFamiliar · 19/04/2019 17:59

I wondered if it was because they advised AJ to drink more water etc when she reached the top of the hill but she didn't. They may have thought if she was hydrated, she wouldn't have fainted.

Grosserygangrule · 20/04/2019 18:40

I think also with Andrea they could see she was mentally fragile particularly with the shouting etc. There would be no point in pushing her and breaking her. With aj she’s capable and they probably wanted her to learn a lesson, don’t let twat weasels dump their shit on you

TheweewitchRoz · 27/04/2019 13:56

Enjoyed this weeks episode - Wayne Bridge seemed so honest and vulnerable. Im surprised how deep some of them are going about their issues - refreshing to see celebrities without the PR hype.

LillithsFamiliar · 27/04/2019 14:40

Something about Jeff's private talk felt odd to me. It almost felt like an X-Factor sad story scripted section. I think because the SAS guys went soft on him so quickly and also because saying 'yes, I'm selfish because it's just me looking after my boys,' doesn't really cut it when you're leaving your partner stranded in the snow. He went in completely self-possessed and came out the same way.

TheweewitchRoz · 27/04/2019 15:51

Completely agree @LillithsFamiliar - me and my DS had the same discussion and we put it down to them going soft since he mentioned Jade's death and they felt sorry for him and didn't want to press further but I agree that leaving Camilla behind was pretty inexcusable.

LillithsFamiliar · 28/04/2019 11:06

I'm glad it wasn't just me Theweewitch ! They seemed to keep going until they made all the others cry (even when their behaviour hadn't been bad or put their team at risk eg Wayne; Victoria) but they went easy on Jeff.

misscockerspaniel · 28/04/2019 14:22

Could it be because Jade sadly died of cancer and this is a programme raising money for Stand Up To Cancer? May be it wouldn't have looked too good if they had laid into him, for example, like when Billy had a go at the one off (I think) Made in Chelsea.

TheweewitchRoz · 28/04/2019 15:35

That might be it @misscockerspaniel or thinking about it, everyone else's behaviour is because of their own insecurities whereas Jeff isn't insecure but had something bad happen to his kids and has done his best through the last 10 years, so there's nothing to 'fix' as such, or even uncover - it's all very open and public already (but they should still have bollocked him for leaving Camilla behind).

I didn't think this watching it at the time but your comments have made me think this is a potential reason.

LillithsFamiliar · 29/04/2019 08:45

misscocker now I feel silly that I didn't think of that. If they've partly included Jeff to show the impact of cancer on a family then that's what they're going to highlight in their interactions with him. (although I do think it left his partner at a disadvantage because he deserved a bollocking for buggering off).

LillithsFamiliar · 02/05/2019 11:15

Did anyone watch this week? I thought it was very upsetting. The interrogation and torture seemed a bit full-on. And Jeff showed he wasn't a team player again.

Sux2buthen · 02/05/2019 15:48

Yes I thought it seemed a bit of a risk to their mental health to be honest. Seems harsh when it is basically a charity fundraiser

BringMeTea · 02/05/2019 16:08

I thought the Dev thing was very funny. They all know they are in no danger at all. I think he just wanted out so overdramatized to make it seem more 'credible'.

DocMarteens · 04/05/2019 11:33

Episode 4 was interesting!

I think it's edited to be more serious that it was at the time (otherwise Sam would have cracked by now) but I do think there is genuine hardship and I think 4 hours of torture would put someone in psychological stress when they are also tired after a night avoiding capture. Poor Dev, that wasn't nice to see.

Completely in awe of Victoria closing the laptop, she is hard as nails.

Hope Jeff gets chucked off because his attitude is impacting negatively on other people's experience now and disadvantaging them.

Worried that Heather and Wayne are going to fuck this up, they've been so strong until now. Hope they can pull it back because they are so impressive anyway.

Can't believe Sam is still in it!!
