Can't find a thread in this so thought I'd start it because it's been fantastic up to episode 2 so far.

I wasn't sure who was in it and then as it started I realised Louise bloody Mensch is in it!! Well done producers, what a great signing, she did not disappoint Wink

Don't want to do spoilers in case any one is yet to watch (few more weeks to go)

Completely agree with everything you've said @DocMarteens - summed up how I feel nicely Grin

SuburbanCrofter · 04/05/2019 17:41

Oooh, I didn't know there was someone else apart from Wayne who was married to a Saturday. Just Googled, interesting!

I agree that Heather is awesome. The way she crashed into her opponent in the challenge with the tires, she was like a brick wall! I know it's her job, but still Shock

Wayne is quite fragile bless him, isn't he. I seem to remember that Frankie has spoken about her mental health issues too so I hope they support each other.

NoughtpercentAPR · 05/05/2019 12:31

I've just started watching this on catch up.

What was Louise Mensch all about? She lasted all of 10 seconds with a heap of whinging all the way through.

At the start when she was name dropping Arnold Schwarznegger and bigging up her fitness levels, was she self deluded or just trying to make good tv?

She couldn't seriously have thought she was fit enough for all the stuff they do on that programme. You have to be a hard core runner and very strong. She couldn't even put her pack on.

It was a very odd decision to go on it at all I thought.

LillithsFamiliar · 06/05/2019 22:53

I couldn't tell if Louise Mensch had completely overestimated her ability or if she thought it would be much easier because it was for charity or if she just couldn't recover mentally and physically from injuring her leg at the start.
I felt sorry for Heather in the last episode. She didn't seem as though she needed pulled out.
The last episode felt quite contrived. It was as though they were creating situations designed to make a particular contestant drop out.
I think they deliberately picked on Sam because they knew he'd opt to leave rather than have his team-mates punished. Then they had a task that relied on upper body strength and instead of having mixed teams they put the women together. Then an underwater task when they knew AJ had a fear of drowning, etc.
I still think the right person won. Did anyone else notice Jeff didn't clap when they announced the winner?

NoughtpercentAPR · 06/05/2019 23:43

They didn't just have to pick a winner though did they? They just had to say who passed the course.

I thought Jeff was too selfish.

I didn't see why either Victoria or AJ shouldn't pass it.Victoria maybe her self doubt was an issue but it was a very perfectionist self doubt.

Victoria and AJ were physically phenomenal on the beasting I thought. That would obviously be much easier for a physically fit and stronger man.

Louise Mensch must never have watched this program though. No one in their right mind would go on that unless you run up and down mountains for fun in your spare time and have done that for years - not just started last week.

LillithsFamiliar · 07/05/2019 09:02

Nought I've never watched it before so I wasn't sure if they had to pick a winner. If they didn't, then yy Victoria and AJ should have passed too. Possibly even Jeff because he did pull as part of the team in the last tasks and he was definitely physically fit enough to pass.
Interestingly, Jeff is saying on Twitter that he's learnt lots about himself but he's also questioning how it was edited and Louise Mensch was defending him saying he's not selfish at all and he helped her a lot.

misscockerspaniel · 07/05/2019 14:58

The one who surprised me was AJ. I wouldn't have put money on her being there to the last but she seemed to grow with every challenge.

LillithsFamiliar · 07/05/2019 19:05

misscocker yy she surprised me too.

NoughtpercentAPR · 07/05/2019 22:31

Liliths - I'm not a regular viewer but I've seen the non-celeb one a couple of times and one year they definitely had a couple of them pass - including a woman which blew my mind. Not to be sexist but this is brutal physically challenging stuff that only very fit very strong men can really do.

Agree about AJ . I think any woman who can do this stuff physically and last out the torture deserves a pass- although I do get that there is a leadership can we rely on you as our leader element - which is where maybe Victoria would fall down due to her self doubt and Jeff due to abandoning his team mate but I didn't get the impression AJ had those issues

Sux2buthen · 08/05/2019 06:49

Yes I think there was a very real possibility Sam was going to do quite well through sheer stubbornness lol.
Jeff did amazingly well but didn't come across as a great guy. I'm sure he's lovely in real life though.
Everyone did well really (apart from Louise!)

kerstina · 08/05/2019 08:40

Really enjoyed this programme and have nothing but respect for all participants . Love Sam and was pleasantly surprised he stayed in so long .

Sux2buthen · 08/05/2019 09:06

I like Sam a lot too, I think he's totally well meaning and probably just wants to find something to do with himself that he loves.

DocMarteens · 08/05/2019 13:48

Just wanted the final. Bloody loved the series and donated to SUTC! Well done (even to Louise for all who participated) what a gruelling experience.

They were all physically fit but really elite level of fitness was needed and that showed at the end with Jeff. The women were so impressive and had "won" by getting to the end stage.

Very worthy winner who I hope has emotionally benefited from the experience.

I hope they do more celebrity ones because you really get to see more of the person. Sad when they talked about their marriages.
