Final series of Still Game

Part of me is so excited that it’s back, another part is sad that it’s the last series!
Just wondered what others are thinking? Was it “the ticket”?
I thoroughly enjoyed Winston’s ‘2 Liters of Justice’ moment with his leg if nothing else!

I will miss it, but I do think it's run it's course.

Have recorded last nights to watch tonight with DH (then I watched it last night after he went to bed!)

Meet0nTheledge · 25/02/2019 12:14

I'm fairly new to it (I'm English and had never heard of it but started watching last season as we came across it being filmed whilst on holiday in Scotland a couple of years ago). I enjoyed it, a few moments had me snorting, will carry on with the series and see.

Missmother · 25/02/2019 17:18

Haven’t they said twice before that it’s the last series? I’m pretty sure that the reason for doing another show was that after a show in the theatre, then the fans really wanted them back so they made another seriesConfused I thought series 8, the last one was the last one.

Missmother · 25/02/2019 17:19

I think Methadone Mick is hilarious and quite a true representation of a lot of the Scottish people today, I say this as an ex heroin addict and a Scottish person!

Melroses · 25/02/2019 17:23

Oh no - I thought they were bringing out a new Scottish channel with lots of drama. I was imagining it would be full of Still Game and Two doors down and the old CBBC programme where someone lived in a lighthouse.

Groovee · 25/02/2019 17:54

Dh watched it all. I fell asleep. Tried to watch earlier and fell asleep again.

Did like Winston chucking his leg though.

MrsJayy · 26/02/2019 10:30

Ach it was pish rubbish I hope it improves i love Edith though she is hilarious and mick obviously genuis but the rest of it meh!

Missmother · 26/02/2019 12:37

Aw I love Still Game and I don’t think I will ever tire of it!

True Scottish humour, I’m not sure if the rest of the UK would totally get the humour unless they know Scottish people well, or have lived in Scotland, I’m pretty sure it’s not shown in other parts of the UK, or it wasn’t always.

Missmother · 26/02/2019 12:37

I think Winston and Mick are the funniest.Grin

Defender90 · 26/02/2019 12:39

When wee Edith said oooh you've got me aw gawn I almost fell off the couch, agree that Mick is a brilliant character.

FintyTin · 26/02/2019 20:48

Winston definitely gets the best lines, but I can’t help but love Isa. Maybe because I’m a bit nosy myself...
The next one’s on on Thursday, I think.
@Missmother the later series were shown on BBC2 in England (not sure about Wales or N.I.). I think this one will be eventually, too.

Grin she is so funny I wonder if they just let the actress go on a tangent.

We met Jane Mcary (sp) Isa last year she was in Bingo the musical

WeBuiltThisBuffetOnSausageRoll · 26/02/2019 21:57

Oh, yes - LOVE Still Game!!

I agree that it's mixed emotions in that it's about run its glorious course, but I'm still very sad at the idea that it will be no more.

I think they're going to bump at least one of Jack or Victor off - probably both of them - just not sure how they'll do it!

WeBuiltThisBuffetOnSausageRoll · 26/02/2019 22:10

True Scottish humour, I’m not sure if the rest of the UK would totally get the humour unless they know Scottish people well, or have lived in Scotland, I’m pretty sure it’s not shown in other parts of the UK, or it wasn’t always.

As an English Midlander, I feel very privileged to have been allowed to share in the SG journey. It does take a little while to 'tune in' and get the feel and the tone of it, but for me, no more than it did when Only Fools And Horses was first on.

Technically, it hasn't always been shown in the rest of the UK, but now that everybody has digital and can get all of the regional/home nation BBC channels, that's of no consequence. I don't care personally whether I have to press 115 or 457 on the remote, as long as I can enjoy SG, Burnistoun and the other Scottish TV gold. Same with New Year - why ever would I want 15 minutes of Robbie Williams (or somebody equally meh) in front of Somerset House when there's Only An Excuse followed by Aly & Phil leading an hour of Hogmanay celebrations on BBC1 Scotland?!

MaiaRindell · 27/02/2019 15:23

I have always found Still Game a bit meh. Chewin' the Fat was much better. Swatch at yer fanny, Kirkaldy Sherrif Court, Gaelic hand puppets and Ronald Villiers! Grin

willywillywillywilly · 27/02/2019 16:46

Ronald Villiers!! I was trying to remember his name yesterday

I'm English but DH used to work in Scotland and we've Scottish friends who introduced us to Still Game and CTF.. both brilliant, although like others I'm not sure about the new series.

Someone near us has a sign up on their gate -- Just gonnae no park over our drive Grin

Finfintytint · 27/02/2019 16:50

Ha OP! Just spotted your username. We’re both fans of CTF. I like Still Game but much prefer CTF.

WeBuiltThisBuffetOnSausageRoll · 27/02/2019 17:24

My pal Joe's a burglar
He burgles houses every place he goes
You'll never see a fella that is uglier
With his big red face and big red boxer's nose

But underneath that very tough exterior
Lies a little cheeky monkey, heaven knows
For when he's filled his bag with your valuables
He takes a dump on the rug before he goes, that's Joe!

vivariumvivariumsvivaria · 27/02/2019 17:28

"That's him jist sterted wi the masturbatin"

A PFB boast if ever there was.

I like Still Game, but, I LOVED CTF. There should have been more series of that - the acting and lines were superb.

LoisWilkerson1 · 27/02/2019 18:51

Ah Ronald Villiers was my favourite. So well done. "Is it me noo?"
Grin

Finfintytint · 27/02/2019 18:54

19 bottles of milk on your doorstep.....

FintyTin · 27/02/2019 21:11

@Finfintytint - I was just catching up and did a double-take at your user name! You clearly have excellent taste! Grin
More CTF would be hugely welcomed in this house, too.
I think SausageRoll may be right in them bumping SG characters off. Maybe Boabby’s greeting was a harbinger, and they’ll go out like Thelma and Louise?
