Ok, so because I wouldn't rest until I checked- and life is easy these days with Google, not like in the ceefax days, I can inform you all AC beat Stuart Bale and Russell Simpson.
Tim Mayotte beat Jimmy Connors to the title.

Yes former British no1, how could they not mention that? Maybe there wasn't room for all his achievements on the screen?!

I'm tempted to look up the 86 results now to see what happened Grin

PrivateIsles · 19/03/2019 11:36

Ooh x-post Raahh good tennis detective work!

Were Stuart and Russell British wild cards entrants? I haven't heard of them!!

I used to be quite fond of Tim Mayotte...

Jane Grin

Raahh · 19/03/2019 11:39

Stuart was a Brit so probably a wc, Russell was a lucky loser from New Zealand.Grin

kazzaD66 · 19/03/2019 11:41

Stuart Bale and Russell Simpson? No, me neither Confused
Jane not even in his wildest dreams! Don't make me spell it out Grin

Raahh · 19/03/2019 11:43

Russell had previously beaten Brian Teacher. Who once won the Aussie Open.

I'm sure that's probably a pointless answer. On pointless.

I'm still waiting to be discharged. I'm a bit bored.

X post Raahh
I used to have a bit of a soft spot for Tim M aswell private . Always looked very neat Grin

PrivateIsles · 19/03/2019 11:49

Wow good win for Russell there (30-odd years ago!).

Tim just looks like a lovely kind person doesn't he? He's on twitter these days...

Raahh have you done any Sporcle tennis quizzes to pass the time? They're good but totally addictive.

Hope you get out soon.

Private I will track down Sporkle.

They've served lunch now. I don't want lunch. I want to go home!

Raahh · 19/03/2019 12:19

*Sporcle

Raahh · 19/03/2019 21:09

Well I finally got home around 3.30pm, and am now beyond tired.
Grin
I've just seen a lovely picture of Sascha on FB, obviously trying to get back the 'best hair' title from Stefanos, with a very cute dog called Pop that he has rescued, and will take back to Monte Carlo.
Awww.

I have painkillers, and am dri king lots of water, jane.

It's a great picture. He suits his glasses, too.

The future of decent looking tennis players is looking ok.Grin

PrivateIsles · 19/03/2019 21:21

I saw those lovely pics earlier and thought of you all!! Grin Sascha is definitely growing on me!! The specs are v nice.

How do these tennis players get their dogs through border control all the time? I thought they (the dogs I mean) needed to be quarantined and that kind of thing? It's a mystery.

Glad you're home Raahh

Raahh · 19/03/2019 21:30

I wrote a long boring post, and lost it.

Private I wonder that about border control.

Raahh · 19/03/2019 21:32

And thank you
Grin

PrivateIsles · 19/03/2019 21:32

Perhaps there's some kind of special "tennis player's dog" passport?!

PrivateIsles · 19/03/2019 21:33

Like a diplomatic passport type of thing?!

Raahh · 19/03/2019 21:36

Oh yes! VIP tennis dogs.

Who do a bit of ball retrieving on the side. Grin

magimedi · 19/03/2019 22:30

You can get a dog passport if your hound has a chip that shows all relevant innoculations are up to date.

Bears & dogs????????????

I want Tennis Grin

PrivateIsles · 20/03/2019 07:26

Aha so that's how they do it eh?!

Sorry to continue the canine theme magi but Jelena Ostapenko put a video on twitter of her visiting the dog rescue centre as well - and a pup started chomping on her plait as a sort of chew toy!! (I don't know if it was Sascha's dog or a different one - looked a bit like him Grin). It was quite funny.

I think Miami starts today but it's been raining there.

I miss Rafa and Delpo even though the tournament hasn't even started. I'd love to see Stan win it in their absence but I know that's unlikely. Who else can I cheer for?.. Tennis

Raahh · 20/03/2019 11:05

Private- it's tough . I'm used to both of them being out injured (often at the same time) but it's still rubbish that they are.

Stan is very much an outside bet- but I'm still hopeful that at one point he will topple Fed- either in a match, or with a giant Bear. Grin.

I will cheer on Tsitsipas, but maybe it's too soon for a masters-but he is in a hell of section of the draw. He has Sascha, Tiafoe, and Shaggy in his quarter. As well as Chicken and Cilic (sounds like a detective duo ). Goffin and Pella make up the other 2. It would probably would have been Rafa's quarter too- as Sascha has taken over as number 2 seed.

So- Cilic was my other outside hope, to find his mojo, but looking at his draw- I'm no longer feeling optimistic!

I will also put in a bid for Raonic, sadly in Djok's quarter. Busta Gut is too- maybe he can find whatever spurred him on in Australia and topple Djok. Will be interesting as Busta is due at some point to meet Foggy, - the winner would play Novak. Foggy might have learnt some tips on Novak's weaknesses from playing doubles with him Grin.

Ostapenko and the dog sounds funny. Grin

PrivateIsles · 20/03/2019 14:50

I know Raahh. I went through those same names - I think Cilic and Stan would be my next favourites that could possibly be anywhere near winning it. Raonic as well. All my other faves are on the periphery these days Sad

Ah well at least Marin could make it as one half of a detective duo Grin he'd have to be the good cop, obviously!
