Anyone watching it? I am quite enjoying (on ep1) but the school looks like it should be in the US as does the sex therapists houe when it is in UK and it looks like it was set in the 70’s (clothes etc) but is set now. Finding that a bit jarring.

In episode 8 the house they are in belongs to a friend of mine. That is my tenuous claim to fame.

I'm signing back up to Netflix to watch this, purely because it looks quite good and I need a new series to get into.

thewinkingprawn · 18/01/2019 22:22

I need to google where it’s filmed - amazing scenery!

I'm on episode 4 and finding it so funny! I watched the trailer and thought I'll put it on in the background while I get on with some other stuff while fully expecting it to be really cringy but I'm full on watching it. Really funny and actually quite sweet at times.

taleforthetimebeing · 18/01/2019 23:01

I love it it’s filmed in South Wales and you can even hire the house that Otis and mum live in for holidays (yes I have been googling). I love the mix of eras and American/British crossover. One of the best things I have seen in a while. Also my favourite sexy policeman from the Swedish show Beck is the plumber. Eric is my favourite.

Livedandlearned · 18/01/2019 23:05

The school is Caerleon Uni and some bits were filmed in Tintern.

Chickenwings85 · 18/01/2019 23:07

I've just finished watching it tonight and I want more! Really hope there's a series 2.
Does anyone else find Maeve is very much like Margot Robbie?

chickensaresafehere · 19/01/2019 08:24

taleforthetimebeing I'm on another thread about it,where I was saying how hot Mikael Persbrandt is,but nobody agreed.
Glad you appreciate him too Smile

jay55 · 19/01/2019 09:56

It did take getting used to, 70s cars, but mobile phones, very American school with British students. A funny mishmash.

I did think it was very funny though.

cheesydoesit · 19/01/2019 21:49

taleforthetimebeing you have pretty much said everything I was about to type! I really liked It, loved the parent-child storylines, in particular Eric and his dad. I am also a Google addict and I read that the director is a massive John Hughes fan which really shows. They wanted to make sure it appealed to both sides of the Atlantic too. Brilliant soundtrack.

Auba14 · 19/01/2019 22:02

I loved it!

I watched over two days from the day it was released. I've read interviews where it's said they've deliberately made it like its American but in the UK to appeal to a mass audience. The first couple of episodes took some time to get used to, but after that I was hooked. So sad I didn't get the happy ending I wanted, and I hope series 2 will just continue from the next day rather than next term, there is so much scope to keep going with this.

Asa Butterfield and Emma Mackey were brilliant, really talented actors and I'm surprised I hadn't seen them in anything before. However I was drawn to Anwar, I don't know why but I loved his outfits and styling. He was great!

Xeroxarama · 19/01/2019 22:55

I watched ep 1 with my (insistent, mature) 13 y old. We both liked it but I ‘m not keen on him watching the whole lot- are other kids this age watching it?

NotANotMan · 19/01/2019 22:56

It's great!
The 80s aesthetic is deliberate, after John Williams (hedwig and the angry inch) but it is a bit incongruent. I like it though and I love the characterisation.

Lifeofa · 19/01/2019 22:57

It reminded me of The Wonder Years I hope there is a second series.

NotANotMan · 19/01/2019 22:57

13 Shock bit young for the fairly explicit sex!

NotANotMan · 19/01/2019 23:13

I meant John Hughes not John Williams, and neither of them directed hedwig!

Groovee · 20/01/2019 13:38

I suggested this to my 19 year old Dd who gave me a lecture on it all!

Petalflowers · 20/01/2019 19:16

Really good acting from the young actors. Quite raunchy in parts.

AnyFucker · 20/01/2019 19:19

ashtrayheart · 20/01/2019 19:19

I binge watched this the other day, great series.

thewinkingprawn · 20/01/2019 22:27

I have just finished the last episode - what an absolutely fantastic series - am gutted it is over. Really nice not to end on traditional happy endings too! I loved the mish mash if era’s and US/UK school in the end and the sound track was great too. Can’t wait for the next one!

I’m on episode 3, really enjoying it. It reminds me of American Pie but much more subtle humour. Great soundtrack and scenery too.

buttyblahblah · 21/01/2019 21:41

I loved it! Were there lots of references to old teen movies or did I imagine it? There seemed to be a bit from Heathers and a bunch of others.

Xeroxarama · 25/01/2019 09:53

It’s great for teens- really good messages. I’m not overly troubled by the explicit sex tbh- it’s much more so in the first episodes- and many young teens have seen plenty of it already. The general tone is practically wholesome!

Fraying · 26/01/2019 00:18

I've just watched the I'm Spartacus/Vagina episode and now I've reached the stage where I'm desperate to watch more but don't want the series to be finished. I'm also in love with the location of Otis' house

PegLegAntoine · 26/01/2019 04:31

I thought this was fantastic. Asa Butterfield is amazing in it.
