*A mile of thread^

SchadenfreudePersonified · 19/02/2019 15:51

Italics cock-up - it's the adrenaline rush of a mile of thread . . . . .

Halsall · 19/02/2019 16:20

I was in a charity shop at the weekend that often has bits of sewing stuff, and having come away before with a glorious haul of about a dozen big reels of Sylko cotton thread (though not a mile per reel Grin) was delighted to see they still had a few more at 45p per reel.

I collected another 8 and when I took them to the till the generous assistant said 'ooh, I'll do you those for £1'.

Fontella · 19/02/2019 16:52

Uato

All that 'sewingnalia' (I just made that word up) looks so fab!

I've got old books in strategic piles around the place, loads of kitchenalia - old cake and storage tins and so on.

I'd love a vintage sewing machine and all the bits and bobs that go with it - just to look at and admire.

dontcallmelen · 19/02/2019 17:05

Ooh love the new word Fontella yy I love a bit of vintage as well I do have a couple of little sewing tables that I painted, one I use as cd storage & the other as a bedside table.
first pic is the cd storage one
Second pic is the bedside table.
Unfortunately neither used for the original purpose, as I am rubbish at sewing.

I'm rubbish at sewing but can make different types of bunting. I also recover old chairs/ blanket boxes. This involves stapling, a hot glue gun and drawing pins BlushGrin. Looks nice though.

I can just see from those pics, we have very similar taste.

In honour of Heather's pin cushion dog from a previous series, I made a couple of Daschunds - the blue one is mine and lives in my sewing room and the brown one was appropriated by DS2 (but not as a pin cushion as he thought that was cruel).

I do feel a bit bad sticking pins in him, but he doesn't seem to mind and I always take them out again when I've finished the project.

Love the tables and the daschunds!!

fourquenelles · 19/02/2019 18:10

Very envious of the crafting and re-purposing skills on this thread. I covert the little cabinets and adore the pincushion doggies.

I just realised that GBSB clashes with Shetland. Woe is me! I will have to watch the latter on catch up.

And no Schaden not Esme Grin I wish I had her talent.

Fontella · 19/02/2019 18:26

Fab crafts and daschunds!

I love a bit of Shetland too fourqu but I wouldn't fancy living there.

All them murders.

SchadenfreudePersonified · 19/02/2019 18:42

**

Admit it!

The thread thread shortages post-Brexit has brought out the worst in you, hasn't it, Halsall?

SchadenfreudePersonified · 19/02/2019 18:50

I'm an enthusiastic stapler (my personal sewingology specialism), but very excited to have the joys of a hot glue gun and drawing pins introduced to my plethora of skills.

You're tables are fab melen. - also Pidgeon's lovely wee daxies.

dontcallmelen · 19/02/2019 19:08

Quickly looking up glue gun & drawing pin courses at local college as well, staple skills just need a little bit of refining.
Love the doggie pincushion, thanks for the table love.

Halsall · 19/02/2019 19:11

I'll be sorted for zips, fusible interfacing, bias binding and all manner of notions come the apocalypse, Schaden . So don't come crying to me when you have an urgent need for an ergonomic chalk wheel.

Fontella · 19/02/2019 19:11

Don't forget the staple gun!

The staple gun is a mighty tool indeed. I once did up someone's posh shed 'summer house' - got paid for it and everything!! I painted all the insides with tinted wood stain and staple gunned loads of floaty voile everywhere. An old raffia rug from my loft and a couple of bits of cane furniture from the charity shop and it looked a treat.

Ah glue guns. I cannot be trusted with glue guns (or any other form of dangerous glue) since the Exploding Superglue Incident.

dontcallmelen · 19/02/2019 19:47

Exploding Superglue Incident hmm I think I need to know more, worries about superglue self to upholstery.

Myimaginarycathasfleas · 19/02/2019 19:59

Hello all!

Have just been doing battle with TalkTalk technical services. Blimey they can talk! I've been on the phone for HOURS complaining about out non existent internet. DH fixed the problem by unplugging and plugging the router Blush

Some lovely makes on this thread, aren't you all crafty?

I also have a superglue story. I'll give you the short version, gummed up lid, pin, A&E, vow (which I have kept) to henceforth wear specs or goggles whenever using superglue.

I'm really looking forward to tonight's Bee. Not just because of the lovely Patrick. Oh no, not that at all...

Wolfcub · 19/02/2019 20:00

One hour klaxon

Cocolepew · 19/02/2019 20:06

I got my hot glue gun on Amazon and spent weeks looking for stuff to glue. There was a lot of pompom fringing added to random furniture.

dontcallmelen · 19/02/2019 20:11

Coco that’s the sort of thing I would do, when I’m on a painting mission I walk around the house looking for things to paint, just bought some chalk paint Aldi & eyeing up the dining room chairs.

BlackAmericanoNoSugar · 19/02/2019 20:39

I have a glue gun, I have never used it without burning myself.

dontcallmelen · 19/02/2019 20:52

I keep having to run between rooms, as my internet only works when it feels like it😡

Myimaginarycathasfleas · 19/02/2019 20:59

I chalk painted the kitchen chairs, melen! And the spice racks ( 4), and my cookbook holder.
