Anyone watching? Not quite the same without the songs!

I didn't know she was Phil Collins' daughter either. I think she looks like young Audrey Hepburn.

Piggywaspushed · 08/01/2019 18:31

Ermmmm queen, I think that counts as a rather large spoiler!!!

QueenOfTheAndals · 08/01/2019 18:45

Oops! I honestly didn't think there was anyone who didn't know the story. I'll get my post deleted.

Piggywaspushed · 08/01/2019 19:09

Probably for the best! I think I did know/ worked it out from joining dots as it goes but we can't assume and it was left as a cliffhanger Smile

Wauden · 08/01/2019 21:48

I nearly shouted at the TV, don't let then pull your teeth out.
Fantine is a bit slow sometimes!

EnidButton · 08/01/2019 22:30

I think so too Deadringer. It's her eyebrows. Not being mean to ol' Phil well I am really but his wife's genes must've won.

EnidButton · 08/01/2019 22:32

I don't think Fantine is the brightest. The creepy letter writer man was right. She did it the wrong way around.

EnidButton · 08/01/2019 22:35

I take that back about Phil Collins! I can see Lily in both her parents here. He's not how I was picturing him.

As an aside, I have a massive soft spot for Phil C! I can see the likeness more here.

Yes, but hair grows again, and she thought she was respectable, not a prostitute, like women throughout history. When she sold her hair, she still didn't quite believe she'd have to sink even lower. And them she found she did. She would have probably got by if she hadn't trusted the Thenardiers. (Or never trusted Felix.)

EnidButton · 09/01/2019 04:09

Oh yes Iam, the eyebrows!

EBear you're right. Easy to see with hindsight but living it she went for the better of two evils hoping she could avoid the worst one altogether.

I was a bit annoyed that they had Valjean sacking her. In the book, he doesn't know, which is all part of the tragedy. If she had gone to him, he would have helped.

QueenOfTheAndals · 09/01/2019 11:11

In the musical it's the foreman who sacks her but I wasn't sure whether that was changed from what happens in the book in order to make Valjean a more sympathetic character.

creamcheeseandlox · 09/01/2019 11:31

Queen that's what I was thinking. I was sure that in the musical is wasn't JVJ who sacked her.

New on here, watched the latest episode on catch up 😁 loving every min.

I love Lilly playing fantine - I think she's beautiful and plays her innocence really well. Someone has put about her age, I haven't read the book but from the first episode I got the impression she was around 16 years of age, at the beginning of episode one there is mention from her friends she was just about old enough to join them for the evening out (I could be wrong). Can anyone confirm this is right and she was a teenager when she met Felix?

Mhw02 · 09/01/2019 20:52

@undomesticgodde55 I just checked the book, Fantine was 19 when she met Felix, and was with him for just under 2 years. She left Cosette with the Thenardiers 10 months after Felix left, when she was 22; round about Cosette's 2nd birthday. (Hugo describes Cosette as being "2 or 3 years", but looking at the timespan she would have to have been just turned 2.)

DarkArts · 09/01/2019 21:23

I'm loving this, very well acted. Poor Fantine Sad

undomesticgodde55 · 09/01/2019 21:42

I think I'm gonna have to buy the book 😃

purpleme12 · 09/01/2019 22:13

What's a foundling?

I love the musical. I'd love to go see it again.
I didn't think much of the film.

I think this series is good. I think it's a good complement to the musical actually.
I first saw the musical when I was a teenager? Younger? I can't remember I know I loved it and I know I didn't really get the story till years later I just loved the music

creamcheeseandlox · 09/01/2019 22:42

Purple a foundling is a child abandoned by its parents and looked after by someone else.

IamPickleRick · 09/01/2019 23:33

I got the book free on the kindle app a few years back. Might still be there?

PorpentinaScamander · 09/01/2019 23:40

I'm loving it. I've only seen the film so getting the back story is brilliant.

It's possiblepossible back story is one the film but I get so lost in the music (and Eddie Redmayne Blush) that I may have missed it Grin

IamPickleRick · 09/01/2019 23:53

Eddie Redmayne reminds me so much of Kermit the Frog, I just can’t 😂

PorpentinaScamander · 09/01/2019 23:54

Grin he's odd looking. But there's just something about him...

LesHappies · 10/01/2019 00:00

I cannot wait for the next episode. It is amazing. I absolutely love the musical. Didn’t like the movie at all. Kept thinking how great Susan Boyle’s version of I dreamed a dream was compared to Anne Hathaway’s.
