Anyone watching? I like Rupert Grint in this.

OP posts:
BingChandler · 26/12/2018 21:37

Awful so far

Annonymiss123 · 26/12/2018 21:37

I was looking forward to it (Love Agatha Christie) but not liking John Malcovich as Poirot at all. I watched Murder On The Orient Express (David Suchet) earlier. Love him as HP.

whitemarble · 26/12/2018 21:38

I'm not impressed with Malkovich as Poirot, I generally enjoy Agatha Christie adaptations but this is not really gripping me

Goposie · 26/12/2018 21:40

I agree.

GCAcademic · 26/12/2018 21:43

The Suchet version was on earlier, and was much better. I don’t think the story can sustain 3 hours, this feels very slow and laboured. And Malkovich’s accent is very odd.

BingChandler · 26/12/2018 21:45

One of my favourite books, from one of my favourite authors....Poirot all wrong....storyline messed up....Japp killed off is wrong...complete shit with an arty overtone that doesn't work....FFS it is bloody awful

Clionba · 26/12/2018 21:46

I agree about John Malkovich's accent. It's very drawn out, but maybe it gets sharper.

MercedesDeMonteChristo · 26/12/2018 21:50

A bit behind, but not really working for me. All of Poirot’s eccentricity seems to be missing.

Clionba · 26/12/2018 21:53

No Japp - now dead! No Hastings?

BingChandler · 26/12/2018 21:53

Oh now this is getting ridiculous...a warrant to search Poirot's home ????? Noooooooo

jasjas1973 · 26/12/2018 21:54

imho John Malkovich is a poor Poirot & usually plays a far better villain than a hero, he sounds exactly like the character he played in RED lol!

If i wasn't hung over, i'd have given up after the first 10 mins.

PinkBuffalo · 26/12/2018 21:55

From what you are all saying I'm so glad I'm not watching this! It's one my my favourite Christie books and I knew it wouldn't be right so I didn't chance it'!

HerculePoirotsGreyCells · 26/12/2018 21:55

This will probably out me, but Ive mentioned elsewhere that he sounds like the mispronouncing French policeman off Allo Allo.

Celebelly · 26/12/2018 21:56

I'm enjoying it! Don't think there's any point trying to remake Poirots in the exact same vein as the Suchet ones. We have those already. The book is hella dark compared to a lot of Christies, so it's a good candidate for this kind of adaptation too.

Is that Greenway being used for the big house with the rich folk in?

FiveGoMadInDorset · 26/12/2018 21:56

This is dull

GCAcademic · 26/12/2018 22:01

I didn’t notice Greenaway. They used it as a location in one of the ITV Poirot’s, Dead Man’s Folly, I think,

Pilcrow · 26/12/2018 22:03

A big thumbs down here too. Surely Christie wouldn't have had any truck with this arty-farty psychological business - it was all about working out the puzzle - but modern directors will insist on trying to impose deeper layers of meaning. We almost dozed off in the first 10 mins.

topcat2014 · 26/12/2018 22:06

DW had to explain the Jewish angle to me

BubonicBudgie · 26/12/2018 22:06

Thank goodness it's not just me. I wanted to poke my eyes out with burning needles.
If went any slower it would have stopped.

RustyBear · 26/12/2018 22:06

There’s not making it in the same vein as the Suchet ones, and then there’s making a total travesty of the whole thing.
If you want to write a crime story in your own style, get your own plot, don’t pretend you can improve on Christie.

Clawdy · 26/12/2018 22:09

Much too dark, with characters and language that would never have been in the novels. I can see they want to make it different from the Suchet adaptations, but the problem is that they couldn't really be bettered, so they should choose the Christie books that don't feature Poirot or Marple - there are quite a few!

HelloToJasonIsaacs · 26/12/2018 22:09

Lots of the darker Christies do have a bunch of grim psychological stuff and I rather like Malkovich’s Poirot, but I wish they’d bloody get on with it and somebody would move with any sense of urgency. Deeply tempted to record the next two and watch them at double pace.

BingChandler · 26/12/2018 22:09

@rustybear perfectly put!!!!

derxa · 26/12/2018 22:10

I am warming to it

eurochick · 26/12/2018 22:14

It was rather slow, and trying too hard to be"noir".
