The general manager used to be at Claridge's and was in their version of this programme too - did anyone watch it?

Yes I'm watching that channel 4 one too!

Toddlerteaplease · 11/12/2018 05:20

I love Thomas's accent!

Heuschrecke · 11/12/2018 07:58

I think Thomas is Swiss? Apparently Switzerland has the best 'hotel schools/training' in the world - well that's what I was told some years ago by the owner of a small, family run hotel in Greece who'd sent his two eldest sons to hotel school in Switzerland!

Love this programme too.

The maid last week who hinted she was once minted and now not was interesting. Wonder what went on there? Very odd

Yes, she said her then-husband gambled it all away. She was fascinating; I'd like a spin-off show about her.

ankasi · 11/12/2018 15:04

I think Thomas is Swiss?

He's German and probably will have done an apprenticeship at a top notch hotel, then gone to a school for hotel management.

I remember how he chose alarm clocks from the Claridge's program, and he does seem very particular about things, but then again, in that job you'd need to be.

Heuschrecke · 11/12/2018 16:15

Ah, I didn't know that, ankasi, I was taking a guess there. After all, some southern Germans and Swiss speaking Germans speaking English sound quite similar to me. It just struck me he was probably Swiss!

IPromiseIWontBeNaughty · 11/12/2018 18:22

His accent is very dreamy shallow

Cocolepew · 11/12/2018 21:28

I love it that sometimes he is smiling but it never reaches his eyes. You know that whatever he's listening to is not going to be happening Grin
He looks a bit like John Barrowman.

anniehm · 11/12/2018 21:42

Good programme but still wondering why anyone is willing to pay those prices - I love five star hotels but to me it's just too pretentious.

SeaViewBliss · 11/12/2018 21:42

Cocoplew I thought he looked like JB too although DH assures me I must need new glasses!

I was fascinated that people like Will.i.am travel without luggage and just have clothes at all the places they stay at.

ChristineBaskets · 12/12/2018 10:30

Tell your husband we thought he looked like JB too seaview! Smile

PicaK · 13/12/2018 20:26

Oh it's not on this week - gutted. That man needs more telly time. I adore him (dh too). I love how polite he is and how fastidious but yet in such a nice way. He genuinely seems to care if his guests have a good time. Whether they are paying eye watering amounts or "just" £65 for afternoon tea.
I loved the Claridges series - but, like John Barrowman - he looks much younger than he did back then.

purpleme12 · 13/12/2018 21:00

It's funny cos I wouldn't say I particularly warm to him

Toddlerteaplease · 13/12/2018 22:34

Not sure if I like the stripy crockery though!

Russiawithlove · 15/12/2018 14:11

I've got similar gold teacups...mine are from Wilkos Grin
