I don’t think that’s deliverate rigging to get their favoured contestant through, I think it’s trying to avoid a scandal when it’s later pointed out that thousands of people paid to vote for an outcome that wasn’t possible.

It was around the fine of a few BBC voting scandals, wasn't it, so they had to be scrupulous, especially as people had paid to vote.

There was no element of 'fix' whatsoever in putting him through - if anything was 'rigged' it was the tying of Lisa & Rachel on the leaderboard that gave him no chance whatsoever of getting through however many phone votes he polled (though I very much doubt that the judges were clever enough to work that out Wink)

EvilRingahBitch · 04/12/2018 07:53

It’s not impossible that one or more of the judges worked out the sums (it’s hardly differential calculus) and secretly implemented Operation Get Chambers Out without telling the producers. It was hilarious to witness TPTB panicking though. It made the Lindyhopathon judging look like a model of calm.

Myimaginarycathasfleas · 04/12/2018 07:53

Have to be honest, I wasn’t a Lisa Snowdon fan. I was a bit mesmerised by her endless legs (if I were to be granted three wishes I would happily give two of them up for nicer pins) but watching that video reminded me that I couldn’t get on with her face. I expect she’d say the same of me.

And she looks kind of spidery in that video, not at all balletic.

I know, you all hate me now.

SheCameFromGreeceSheHadaThirst · 04/12/2018 08:02

I know, you all hate me now.

Not me. I had nothing against her personally, but she was grossly over-marked throughout and did what might be the slowest and most leaden 'quickstep' ever seen on Strictly.

That said, she was dancing with Brendan in the days before he acquired an atom of diffidence, so I was never going to be keen on them.

MrsJamin · 04/12/2018 08:16

That black fringing is hilarious! What were they thinking?! Has anyone seen Brenda and Lisa's dance fit programme on Sky? It's so cheesy!

ppeatfruit · 04/12/2018 09:16

MrsJamin I LOVE that dance fit programme, I saw it by chance with Kelly Brook and it was great for learning the dance. Kelly was a bit cheesy it's true, she did go on about losing calories. On ITT Zoe seemed genuinely sad about Charles and Karen going.

Myimaginarycathasfleas · 04/12/2018 09:22

Thank you Greece! Glad it’s not just me.

I’m busily catching up on everything I’ve missed and loving everything. No critical faculties left whatsoever.

Even so, I thought Kate’s backfat dress at Blackpool was horrific. Someone needs taking out and shooting for that one.

Myimaginarycathasfleas · 04/12/2018 09:49

Sorry folks, am in a bit of a catch up time warp but I just watching Stacey’s paso. Fantastic choreography from Kev, proper flamenco elements, the music sublime. Ole!

PiperPublickOccurrences · 04/12/2018 10:00

Stacey or Joe are going to win, it's been obvious from the start.

I think Ashley is upset not for being in the dance-off of itself, but because she's suddenly twigged that she's not liked by the voters, whether that's because of her personality or her experience. I have the impression she's used to being the popular girl, the cool girl, the queen bee and she can't get her head around why she's not walking it. Faye arguably has just as much experience, but is coming across much better and she's actually made me quite like Giovanni, who I loathed with a passion when he was with the horrendous Debbie last year.

I am not a dance expert but I didn't rate Joe's dance at all at the weekend. My 13 year old said it was "totally cringe" and I'd have to agree. Loved Faye's Charleston. I'm not warming to Stacey but she is a good wee dancer. And Lauren is very sweet and obviously tries so hard. Her relationship with AJ is lovely.

SheCameFromGreeceSheHadaThirst · 04/12/2018 10:11

Funny how people see things differently. I don't get that at all from her: in PCD pretty much all of them were 'back up' to NS, so I'd say Ashley's had years of being very much not the queen bee, and being under no illusions that she was 'the cool girl' of the group

ppeatfruit · 04/12/2018 10:37

Yes myimaginary I LOVED Stacey's paso too Grin I hope she wins but i don't reckon she will with all the on line fans of Joe ( with the hands like spades) and Lauren.

Myimaginarycathasfleas · 04/12/2018 11:00

It’s rare that the paso is Spanish enough for me ppeatfruit and I’m thrilled to see one that is. I think flamenco is a bit Marmite for some people, personally I’m a big fan.

Still working my way through catch up and OMG what did Tess do in a previous life to warrant that weird red garment?

And by the way, if they get Rod Stewart on yet again, I may have to stop watching. Huge crush on him in the seventies when he was with the Faces and actually good. It was all over for me once he went over to Spandex.

I see no practical use for him at all now, except possibly to stick him head first down the whatnot to tidy up after Mr Fleas.

ppeatfruit · 04/12/2018 11:09

Grin dsis used to work in the biz and she says that each presenter has a rail chosen by the costume department or their personal stylist (Tess has her own stylist) So it's either her or the stylist who has a thing for weird dresses and cut off shoulders. At least when it 's ONE cut off shoulder it's not quite as bad (Sunday's was almost alright) as the nearly boob baring top that Tess wore on Saturday Grin

ppeatfruit · 04/12/2018 11:12

Oh and I agree about Rod Stewart, it's about time he hung up his lycra trousers for good!!

Theromanempire · 04/12/2018 12:22

Yes this week's outfit truly was a monstrosity Confused the top and skirt clashed hideously and the top was just plain ugly!

shumway · 04/12/2018 14:32

Ashley and Pasha Paso Doble to 'Spectrum (Say My Name)' Florence + The Machine AND American Smooth to 'Ain’t That a Kick In The Head' by Dean Martin
Faye and Giovanni Samba to 'I Go To Rio' by Pablo Cruise AND Argentine Tango to 'La Cumparsita' by Machiko Ozawa
Joe and Dianne Argentine Tango to 'Red Right Hand' by Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds AND Viennese Waltz to 'This Year’s Love' by David Gray
Lauren and AJ Tango to 'Nutbush City' by Limits Tina Turner AND Samba to 'Rock The Boat' by The Hues Corporation
Stacey and Kevin Charleston to 'Five Foot Two Eyes Of Blue' by Spike Jones AND Viennese Waltz to 'You’re My World' by Cilla Black

GrouchyKiwi · 04/12/2018 14:40

So many tangos.

I hope they do Red Right Hand justice. Wonder if they'll get someone else in to sing it. I don't think any of their singers have the right voice for it.

EvilRingahBitch · 04/12/2018 14:52

Interesting choices. I think Lauren is screwed with that Samba although her Tango may be OK. Stacey, Ashley and Faye will be good to excellent with all those dances. Joe’s VW will be great (even if he is trampling on the memory of Harry at Peak Swoonability) but my toes are curling preemptively bracing for that AT.

EvilRingahBitch · 04/12/2018 14:54

VW is a good choice for a non-ringer in 2 dance week as long as you’ve already nailed your Ballroom hold earlier in the series and you don’t get motion sickness, because there’s so much less to learn.

💃💃💃🎬Semi-final songs and dances are up! 🎬💃💃💃

Lauren and AJ Tango to 'Nutbush City Limits' by Tina Turner AND Samba to 'Rock The Boat' by The Hues Corporation

Stacey and Kevin Charleston to 'Five Foot Two Eyes Of Blue' by Spike Jones AND Viennese Waltz to 'You’re My World' by Cilla Black

I think Joe dancing AT will be very weird. I know he is grown man but he has pre teen online persona/character and looks and acts like he is 12 and for us as grown adults to appreciate him doing a sexy AT is just weird IMHO. Tango maybe but AT HmmHmmHmm

SubtitlesOn · 04/12/2018 15:20

Sorry didn't read thread/last posts before I posted a copy of the post on FB (credit to the FB poster who had the 💃💃💃🎬 )

GarethSouthgatesWaistcoat · 04/12/2018 15:24

The singers are going to murder some of those.

I expect Joe to be quite disengaged during his AT. Diane will be doing all the trickery.

Bad luck for Lauren with a Samba. I see Faye has it too. Has Gio done any good sambas in his time? Off to check.

Pashley and Kev-n-Stacy seem to to have it a lot easier with their choices in a 2 dance week. I'd forgotten the latter hadn't done a Charleston. I don't really like Kevin's charlestons!

Glad that crap party latin doesn't really feature (bar Lauren and AJ's samba if it's not good). I reckon Faye and Gio will produce a decent-ish samba and an incredible AT. Their samba could suffer if they concentrate on the AT.

GarethSouthgatesWaistcoat · 04/12/2018 15:26

Apols for the random capitalisation!

The comments on the last page had me chuckling esp Rod Stewart Grin

GarethSouthgatesWaistcoat · 04/12/2018 15:36

Speaking of Lisa and Brendan they did a Rock the Boat samba. Take note Lauren and AJ Grin

This one seems a bit slow in places. Lots of great (ballroom) samba choreo but Lisa is crazy tall and ungainly. Wonder if a smaller heel would've helped! I quite enjoyed it regardless:

kazzaD66 · 04/12/2018 15:39

Having seen the dances for Saturday, just had to go back and watch Harry and Aliona's VW to David Gray. I can't see Joe and Dianne getting anywhere near it but if they get a 39 like Harry, it will be a travesty. Given the marking this series, I wouldn't be surprised though HmmAngry
