The Haunting Of Hill House: WITH SPOILERS

Bishalisha · 24/10/2018 23:27

I’ve just finished watching the whole series.

The other thread doesn’t have spoilers so thought I’d start one that does.

What was everyone’s thoughts on the ends? I’m a sucker for a closed ending so was pleased with the way it played out. The Dudleys scenes had me in tears, especially with the baby and Abigail.

I found it so clever/ bizarre how they were all backwards and forwards in time- nelly haunting herself, nelly and Luke’s further ghosts haunting their mother in the past

It occurred to me during one scene where Olivia sees adult Nelly on the metal table- when she had to cut the mouth stitching open... when she’s having her BNL sleep paralysis and she can’t open her mouth, it’s like when her mouth has been stitched shut after her death which is why she can’t open it (jeez did anyone understand what I just wrote??)

Anyway really enjoyed the series

Just finished watching too. It was a bit confusing at first with all the sisters/mother looking the same but it got better.

They couldn't say on the other thread, who was the tall ghost?

drinkswineoutofamug · 26/10/2018 21:50

The tall ghost was the body behind the wall

ReggieKrayDoYouKnowMyName · 26/10/2018 21:55

Posting with eyes closed as a place Mark because I am watching at the moment.

UghFletcher · 26/10/2018 22:08

That tall ghost is what nightmares are made of

UghFletcher · 26/10/2018 22:09

I read an article today about more ghosts being hidden in plain sight when there are scenes at the house. I feel I now need to watch again to spot them

ChardonnaysPrettySister · 27/10/2018 08:04

Oh good, a thread with spoilers.

So was Luke's imaginary friend imaginary then? Or did she become a ghost after the mother killed ? In that case how was she able to come to the house for a sleepover? I thought the housekeeper wouldn't let her leave home at night?

Rollergirl11 · 27/10/2018 08:32

The last episode was so confusing but my impression was that Abigail was actually real. The Dudley’s said that she snuck away from home on the night of the sleepover and then Olivia killed her with the poison and she became a ghost.

MynameisJune · 27/10/2018 08:36

Am I the only one who found it boring? I expected to be scared but if just didn’t do anything for me at all.

Lepetitpiggy · 27/10/2018 08:37

i was mainly confused about how little boy luke had such terrible eyesight and grown up luke didn't! contact lenses?

ChardonnaysPrettySister · 27/10/2018 09:41

That's what I thought too, we all sort of accepted that the little girl was an imaginary friend, but she was real until the mother killed her.

Unicornandbows · 27/10/2018 09:43

I felt it had too much of a happy almost Disney like ending. I loved the build up and scare factor and then they all lived happily ever after.. 😒

Gladys123 · 27/10/2018 09:59

I loved this series. I think we were supposed to think that Abigail was a ghost the whole time but actually she wasn't and Luke wasn't seeing things.
The scene in the funeral home where all the siblings get together was amazing. I felt so bad for Kelly. She had to make her casket fall over just to get them to stop arguing!
There's a really good reddit for each episode. It really delves into everything and there are pictures of all the background ghosts too.

Gladys123 · 27/10/2018 09:59

Kelly? I mean Nelly!

Redken24 · 27/10/2018 10:04

I really enjoyed the series.
When the dad discovers the body in the wall did u spot the ghost watching him? Nearly crapped myself haha.

Atetoomanyghoulies · 27/10/2018 10:09

Just finished watching last night. I feel like I need to start again because I am confused!

ChardonnaysPrettySister · 27/10/2018 10:23

I mussed that, Redken.

Tempted to rewatch now.

drinkswineoutofamug · 27/10/2018 10:48

I need to watch it again. The episode when nelly hung herself and we found out she was the bent necked woman😳

NameChanger22 · 27/10/2018 10:52

I loved it, it was very clever and the acting was very good. I found the ending a tiny bit disappointing, but I loved the rest of it. I will watch it again as there was a lot to take in the first time.

NameChanger22 · 27/10/2018 10:54

The moment in the car with the two sisters - I nearly fell off the bed.

It's more of a psychological drama with jumpy bits and ghosts. I thought it was very unique.

Claricestarling1 · 27/10/2018 11:20

Yes!!! When Nelly screams between the two sisters in the car..pretty sure my heart stopped 😂

MissDai5y · 27/10/2018 11:28

We finished it last night and were very thankful that it had and actual end and wasn't left open ended.

I loved that at times you couldn't tell that it was the house rather than reality. Like the bit with Steve and his pregnant wife, when the penny dropped and I was watching it unfold I was nearly climbing up the sofa.

I was glad it wasn't all frights and it was ultimately a story about people and their relationships. Plenty of good jumps as well though.

I would like to see a series about the flapper girl and what happened there.

KittensAndCake · 27/10/2018 11:34

The moment in the car with the two sisters - I nearly fell off the bed.

Yes, there was no build up or spooky music to that one just BAM 😱

Maybe Luke's imaginary friend was the ghost Abigail not the live Abigail, even though she wasn't dead then, because time was all messed up, like confetti

Bishalisha · 27/10/2018 13:29

They couldn't say on the other thread, who was the tall ghost?

The man who was found in the wall (also the man who was creeping towards Luke in the basement). He was clinically insane and bricked himself into the house. Theo's girlfriend explains during one of Theo's weird hallucinations about an insane man who builds a wall around him, and when he 'wakes up' he is really tall, like his dream. He is also the man with the cane and the bowler hat.

I read an article today about more ghosts being hidden in plain sight when there are scenes at the house. I feel I now need to watch again to spot them

Did you click the link on the other thread? They are seriously creepy and it made me actively look for the background ghosts (whilst peeping between my fingers in fear!)

So was Luke's imaginary friend imaginary then? Or did she become a ghost after the mother killed ? In that case how was she able to come to the house for a sleepover? I thought the housekeeper wouldn't let her leave home at night?

She was alive throughout the series and an actual person. Her mum did not allow her to enter the grounds of the property. She snuck off in the night for the sleepover and the mother poisons her. Her ghost remains in the house. I think Mrs. Dudley must have died before the last episode as she is also in the house when Luke returns and the scene where Mr. Dudley carries her into the house would have been a flashback type scene for context.

The scene in the funeral home where all the siblings get together was amazing.

Am I imagining it, or when they were all arguing, was she standing behind them as bent neck lady? (before the coffin fell)

There's a really good reddit for each episode. It really delves into everything and there are pictures of all the background ghosts too.

Could you please post a link to the reddit threads? when I searched reddit I couldn't find anything that analyzed everything, just posters slagging it off!

The moment in the car with the two sisters - I nearly fell off the bed.

Same, I was not expecting that at all. Terrifying!

I would like to see a series about the flapper girl and what happened there. I think she was Mrs Hill wasn't she? Also clinically insane. I didn't catch the poem properly that she whispered to (I think) Olivia but I think it was her story... basically explaining how a husband kills his wife, kills his children and then himself (i think)

I feel like I need to watch the series again... and actually watch this time rather than cowering and looking with one eye Grin

I had a thought about the dad. Well several. Was he really dead all along? Also, did he go to prison for the 'murder' of his wife? He wasn't around for their childhood...

Megsmcgoo · 27/10/2018 14:55

I absolutely loved the series, thought it was brilliant if a little heart breaking. Nellys story was just so sad

Thought the child and adult actors were well cast and looked very similar!

Dad got a tough break I thought, did what anyone would do!
