So we finished this last night, agh I was so tense when it came to the lead up to the shooting! All the way I was thinking "please don't let it be the little brother".

It was heartbreaking when the police told the parents.

Did anyone think the actress who played Holly was mega wooden? That scene between her and Charlie/gabe in her flat she seemed particularly bad.

Love love love raza. Quite sad that he ended up staying in touch with the one person who ruined his life, like an abusive relationship or something.

Anyway the whole thing was totally unrealistic but I still loved it!

I only realised during the build up to the shooting who might have done it, for a while I was convinced it would be Raza. Poor Nassir.

I found anything involving the police wooden tbf - I watched because I normally love Paddy Considine but he wasn't that great in this, and everything any of the cops said was just one cliche after another.

Nabhaan Rizwan, however, was absolutely fantastic, such a charismatic actor.

I'm not sure how I feel about the ending... Is Em back with Gabe too? You're right, he's like an abuser sitting in the middle of this web, and while obviously he's doing it for the right reasons, he just keeps reeling them all back in again. I almost needed Gabe to be a lot more charismatic to understand why all these people kept "falling" for him.

I suppose at the end of the day, what else was Raza to do? Is he carrying on to make it all count for something? I did wonder if his dad had truly found religion or whether he was doing it to help Raza get even more undercover, seeing how he knew what was going on.

chillipophey · 24/10/2018 12:20

Yeah I thought paddy consadine struggled here too and I'm also normally a fan! I actually lolled at his "Charlie" character quite a few times.

And yeah I guess all the police stuff was pretty badly written, his boss! What was she all about?!

Raza & family held it together really cos they were so likeable. And yousef's brother although his hair really got on my nerves, always in his eyes! That's me being old though. So glad it wasn't him at the end either.

Tbh I didn't find it very believable me that the brother did it

OP posts:
SavageBeauty73 · 24/10/2018 21:27

I didn't guess it was the brother at all!

helzapoppin2 · 24/10/2018 21:31

Can someone explain Razza’s family to me? I mean about the parents not being the boys’ real parents.
I thought the actor playing Razza was very good, and so was his friend. I hope we see them in more things. I liked the humour in the series as well, although it could be quite tense. Somehow, Paddy Considine seemed ill at ease in that part.
I wondered if the father became devout at the end as a reaction to what happened (at the end).

SavageBeauty73 · 24/10/2018 21:35

The father was their real father. The mum was a family friend. When the mother got ill, they all moved into her council flat.

chillipophey · 24/10/2018 21:40

I thought his dad was really his dad but he married the "step" mum when the boys were really young.

OP posts:
helzapoppin2 · 24/10/2018 21:49

Aaaahhhh! Thanks for the explanation!

cherrytree63 · 25/10/2018 07:41

I don't think the dad ever married her. She outstayed her student visa to look after them.
Can anyone tell me what Yusef's brother put in the drunk man's pocket when he lifted his wallet? I assumed drugs put wasn't sure.

chillipophey · 25/10/2018 07:56

Yes it was drugs which is why he was panicking and trying to get rid of them when he woke up

OP posts:
cherrytree63 · 25/10/2018 09:38

I thought it looked like teeth! Grin

QueenOfTheAndals · 25/10/2018 10:12

I just didn't think it made sense for Nasir to be the killer as he showed no signs of instability before. I mean, maybe I can understand why he shot himself but why would he take out an entire cafe, even if he had wanted to get Holly?

The actor playing Raza was excellent and very charismatic too. He's only 21 and I think he'll go far.

Thurlow · 25/10/2018 16:22

I thought it was teenage panic that made him do it? He accidentally shot Kash and probably imagined he'd go to jail for that, and then when he saw Holly, who he only knew as a police officer who was "after" Raza in some way, he just panicked, and after he had shot her he shot in gut reaction at people who came near him?

I think it made sense in the way that they are constantly looking for these big, planned terrorist cells but so often it is just one person in a moment of madness that causes so much tragedy.

NewModelArmyMayhem18 · 25/10/2018 17:14

One of the best things I've seen on TV for a long time. Actor playing Raza is a talent and good looking to boot - hope he does really well out of his first drama series.

TheToldYouSoDance · 25/10/2018 17:47

I thought the ending was a bit silly, but I loved the characters/ actors: Raza, Dadir, Nassir and dream boat Imran/Faisal Blush. Plus Yussof’s girlfriend was good. Gabe /Charlie seemed to be channeling Danny Dyer which put me off, and Holly was pretty wooden too. All in all it introduced me to some wonderful new actors, so glad I watched for that alone.

FabulouslyGlamorousFerret · 27/10/2018 18:43

Couldn't connect with Charlie/Gabes character at all - Rafa was fantastic, not sure on the ending though

mumontherun14 · 28/10/2018 12:09

Just finished watching it all on iplayer. Loved it especially loved Raza. Thought it was a bit of a shame for him when he had gone through all that to get the passport and then his step mum left them and was going to use it to go to Pakistan! Nice!
Also how did Sharon get Gabes real name and address?
Would make anyone not want to help the police if they get treated like that - didn't like Gabe at all..

OneStepMoreFun · 29/10/2018 11:28

Just finished watching it. I loved it. Mainly because the actors playing Raza and Dedir were so fantastic. Charismatic and so moving. They out-acted all the others. And I loved that Ummi was at the centre of it all, completely unaware, just running her salon and making dinner, with no knowledge of what Raza is going through on her behalf. he's a brilliantly written character, I thought. Completely heroic but believable.

I liked the actors who played Nasir and Akash too, though I thought Nasir's sudden snap was clunky plotting. Nothing indicated he was that far on edge. He was too stable, too nurtured to go off the rails so quickly and easily. They needed to show signs of it higher up the storyline. It was a shame because so much of it was really carefully thought through, then suddenly it becomes an old-fashioned whodunnit not a why- or howdunnit which are much more subtle imo.

mumontherun14 · 29/10/2018 11:49

Yeah I was gutted it was Nasir as well - think it would have better if it had been Akash who had been the shooter - would have made more sense.

PouchofDouglas · 29/10/2018 11:53

I just loved it. Best thing in years. But I thought paddy comsidines wife was a bit gormless and naive

OneStepMoreFun · 29/10/2018 11:56

She was the most token character though, wasn't she? Allegedly a history lecturer - did we even find that out until the end? No sign of her slaving over essays and lecture/seminar prep like most academics I know. She was always at home, smoking, or palming her daughter off on her parents. Very thin characterisation from the writers. I thought the actress was fine, given how little she had to go on.

PouchofDouglas · 29/10/2018 18:02

The actress who played her daughter was awful. Really twee

OneStepMoreFun · 29/10/2018 18:42

That's a weird thing to say, @PouchofDouglas . She's just a child.

thenightsky · 29/10/2018 18:52

I loved it, especially Raza.

Yusif's younger brother with the dreadlocks got on my nerves with his mouth always hanging open, looking gormless. He was supposed to be quite a sharp, intelligent young man, but the facial expressions let him down.

I don't think the mum wasted the passport by going to Pakistan. I think she wanted to go back for years to see family, but couldn't risk it as she wouldn't have got back into the UK. She can now come and go as often as she pleases.

Ellieboolou27 · 29/10/2018 21:51

I loved it, razza made it for me, very talented young man, Gabe irritated me, he wasn’t believable at all. I was a bit disappointed with the ending too.

NewModelArmyMayhem18 · 30/10/2018 07:15

I'm sure that the actor who plays Raza is in something 'big' that I've seen advertised recently (it could be a film?). Remember scrolling through the screenshots of the stars involved and clocking him (thinking that I didn't know him from anything else) but that he was very handsome young enough to be my son.
