I have never started a new thread before so was not sure where to put this but as it is refering to a tv programme I thought here would be as good as place as any

I have posted the following on the media/non member request board but I thought I would just post it here as well as I do not want anybody to apply to be on HOTT and think they are getting Tanya because they will not so will be very disappointed

My previous post was 'I post very rarely as I have not been given the warmest of welcomes before but I thought I would just let you know that Tanya Byron is NOT doing the new series of The House of Tiny Tearaways they have an new psychologist. Tanya has given up parenting programmes she explains her reasons in depth in an article on the Raising Kids website basically she feels uncomfortable about and is not happy with the way reality parenting programmes are going, said they were going down an avenue she did not want to be part of and that parenting is becoming to prescriptive, she is now working on adult programmes to be screened by the BBC in the autumn

Unlike Supernanny Tanya knew when to give up and I really admire and respect her for this. It will be really interesting to see who they get to replace her

was Tanya not popular then?

(I never watch this programme, get enough noisy kids at home)

ProfYaffle · 10/06/2007 08:16

Oh noooooooo, I love Dr Tanya, won't be watching HOTT without her. Her decision just makes me admire her integrity and want to watch her even more

ProfYaffle · 10/06/2007 08:23

Article here

compo · 10/06/2007 08:24

maybe Carrie and Justine could take over...

morgansauntie · 10/06/2007 08:30

Thank you very much for posting the link this is very new to me and did not know how to do it.

I used to have a social phobia and still find it stressful talking to new people

I can not have children but have learnt so much from this programme, I now have a very positive and close relationship with my niece's and nephew and it has helped me enormously as well

shame - she is brilliant. I do agree with her reasons though.

StiltonCheesewright · 10/06/2007 09:00

Welcome Morgansauntie

Much respect to Tanya, i think. She is right about the way things are going. She has a lot of good stuff to say but maybe has said it all. Repetition can amke ideas very rigid.

ProfYaffle · 10/06/2007 09:09

welcome morgansauntie, mn can be a bit intimidating when you're new, hope you settle in

morgansauntie · 10/06/2007 09:26

Thank you very much for your very kind and nice welcome , should really go now and do some studying (an O.U course) otherwise I will need to see Tanya for some help with my addiction to the internet but do not think I could afford her consultation fees!

welocme, morgansauntie

sorry you had the warmest of welcomes.....

I wonder who is going to do the show instead....? it have no doubt it will become car crash tv now

edam · 10/06/2007 09:34

I'm glad to see someone who is a respected professional speaking out against parenting programmes, tbh, the genre is turning into reality TV freak show stuff.

Oblomov · 10/06/2007 09:47

I respect Tanya. God for her for stopping.

belgo · 10/06/2007 09:49

morganauntie - welcome to mumsnet - there's a Student parent's topic that you might be interested in regarding your OU course.

Tanya Bryon has been one of the biggest influences on my parenting, along with Deborah Jackson, but I respect her reasons for wanting to finish with TV.

Aitch · 10/06/2007 09:54

oh good for tanya, she's very cool. she's right, though, how many times can you wathc a kid eat twelve yoghurts for lunch without it becoming a freak show exercise?

morgansauntie · 10/06/2007 10:29

Thank you once again

Could not stay away for long I'm now multi tasking got to go out soon and they do not have the internet which is lucky my nephew has now arrived so I wil not get another look in this morning anyway

I was wondering if it will be a psychologist who is already famous or somebody unknown, the BBC seem to be keeping him or her under wraps and have not made it clear that it is not Tanya

Gina Ford anyone

Are they misleading people intentionally to get them to apply or not?

DulwichDolly · 10/06/2007 10:31

I know that she wanted loooots of money for the new series... she believes she is the new best thing in telly!

ProfYaffle · 10/06/2007 10:33

I believe she's right!

At least she's properly qualified and has her own children

ProfYaffle · 10/06/2007 10:36

I should point out that my last comment could apply to a number of child care 'gurus' and was not aimed at anyone specifically ....

Aitch · 10/06/2007 10:53

LOL!

morgansauntie · 10/06/2007 11:19

I'm really really sorry forgot I was not surposed to mention that name will put myself in timeout right away will be back in 40 minutes

OP posts:
belgo · 10/06/2007 12:43

we're allowed to mention Gina Ford now. But there are conditions...

ScaryHairy · 10/06/2007 13:15

Good for her - she has very sensible reasons fr stopping. I like her advice as it always seems to be based on treating your child as an individual, trusting your instincts etc. Much more sensible than anything prescriptive, and best of all she is qualified to know what is good for children. I get a bit sick of these "gurus" (laughs hysterically) and their anecdotes...

morgansauntie · 10/06/2007 15:15

Can I come back now ? According to my calculations the length of my timeout makes me 300 years old or there abouts

I have just read an interesting article Tanya has done for sundaymail.co.uk on children watching tv in it she said when her son was very small (about 5 years old) his classmates told him 'We saw your dad last night and he was chasing a paedophile'

How do you answer that one and should 5 year olds be watching The Bill?

perhaps some kind person can teach me how to do a link for future reference

OP posts:
belgo · 11/06/2007 07:40

morganauntie - to do link s you put

and around the website address. It's explained opposite the 'add your message' box.

morgansauntie · 11/06/2007 09:52

Thank you very much Belgo everybody has been very helpful I have to take a lot of medication so it feels like I'm in a daze most of the time so can not always see the blindly obvious
