Unashamedly uncool thread.

Was in Liverpool for a few days last week and fulfilled a long held ambition to visit Brookside Close. Husband and kids didn’t get it, but it made my week.

Anyway, had an afternoon to myself today and have been watching old episodes on YouTube and wondered if there are any fellow former Brookie fans on Mumsnet who wanted to chat about it.

My favourite era was mid-nineties with the body under the patio and all of that, I LOVED Anna Friel and definitely had some confusing feelings about that lesbian kiss (I was about 10 at the time).

I also had a long time crush on Max Farnham and was very happy when he married Jacqui Dixon in the early noughties. The peak of my young life was when the actor who played Max was appearing in a play in London and I happened to be on the same tube as him one evening. He was with a fellow actor and I plucked up the courage to speak to him. He was very charming and kissed me on the cheek, was marvellous! Sadly it was before camera phones, so this thrill of my girlhood exists only in my memories 😆

What are your favourite Brookside memories?

southeastdweller I remember that line about Doreen's 21st! It pops into my head randomly occasionally Confused

cheesemongery · 07/08/2018 14:03

I've just had to google Heather the accountant - a bit before my time as she came into it in 1982 when I was 6 Grin Amanda Burton!! Blimey.

Completely outing for me if she's reading, but my housemate used to fancy Eddie Banks as he looked cuddly - you what?!!

cloudyweewee · 07/08/2018 15:50

I remember Tina Malone played Rosie's sister Mo- she was hilarious.

8misskitty8 · 07/08/2018 19:13

Brookside was quite forward thinking with it’s storylines.

Anyone remember the ‘turkey baster’ Episodes ? Wasn’t that Max and Patricia who wanted a baby and Jacqui who was the surrogate ?

The body under the patio, the youngest daughter is in that top cat Halifax advert.

I was fascinated by Jaqui Dixons hair - she went blonde to dark brown then blonde streaks back to blonde repeadedly

Harry Cross arranging with Annabel Colllns to cater for Ednas wake . Annabels husband Paul was a fearful snob , when he was made redundant he expected a huge pay-off and to keep his Rover . He didn't and became a reluctant house husband while Annabel startd her own business catering.

Harry told her to "make Edna proud" so she spent over £200 on food........................he gave her " £20 should cover it , keep the change" Shock

The three hospital staff (IIRC two nurses and Pat who was a Porter) in the seige. One of them had a Miss Selfridge 'Lipstick Kiss' dressing gown that I coveted ....and bought eventually.

I used to watch it putting my make-up on . Shower , hair in a towel, get my face on and have dinner with Brookie before going out. Ahh memories .

cloudyweewee · 07/08/2018 21:24

The bloke who played Pat was Denise Welsh's first husband.

ourkidmolly · 07/08/2018 21:35

I've loved reading this. Brookside was ace. All the memories are flooding back.

topcat2014 · 07/08/2018 22:28

I went to uni in Liverpool. Brookside close was in the A to Z.

The shopping centre I used was in the opening credits, as was the cinema.

It was required viewing.

blackbunny · 07/08/2018 23:08

The actor who played Peter(Harrison?) is married to the actress who plays Leanne in Corrie. A Brookie factoid for you!

Nettletheelf · 07/08/2018 23:27

The three medical house sharers, who rented a house from Harry Cross, were Sandra (Scottish and proud owner of aforementioned Miss Selfridge lipstick kiss dressing gown), Kate and Pat. Pat was a porter, the other two were nurses. Kate got killed in the siege. It was very exciting.

Harry and Edna (afterwards, Ralph) lived in the bungalow, which they bought from Slan Partridge (not that one) for £21k after Alan split up with his girlfriend Sam.

Sandra’s friend Jackie did saucy kissograms in a nurse’s uniform, with Pat driving her around in an ambulance, to Sandra’s fury.

Pat left the close after insinuating himself into an all-female band by copping off with the keyboard player then hijacking the microphone during a gig watched by an A&R man, who picked him and the guitarist over Pat’s girlfriend and the singer. Bad Pat!

Nettletheelf · 07/08/2018 23:28

ALAN Partridge, not sure why I put SLAN Partridge.

cloudyweewee · 08/08/2018 07:50

Peter Harrison was gorgeous. I also had a crush on Billy Corkhill, but not his son Rod the Plod.

southeastdweller · 08/08/2018 10:45

Yes, Peter was very sexy. I also had a thing for Greg Shadwick.

woodhill · 08/08/2018 11:03

Remember the Finnegans and the protection racket.

Quite liked Max and Susanah

blackbunny · 08/08/2018 13:59

Didn't Greg Shadwick shag Susanna Farnham in a gym changing room when there was an explosion? Or is this a weird dream I've had?

travelmonster · 09/08/2018 19:42

One of my all-time favourite dreadful lines was where Suzanna Farnham screamed at her kids in the car, "Shut up or I'll kill the pair of you!" And then crashed the car and killed the pair of them.

cheesemongery · 09/08/2018 19:55

-Haha!- Shouldn't laugh...

cheesemongery · 09/08/2018 20:00

Strikethrough fail.

Randomly I've just remembered when Frank (was it Frank?) was using a facial solarium to tan one arm when trying to get a job back as a trucker - like he'd had his arm out the window in the sun all day whilst casually trucking along...

Obviously that top tip has come in handy over the years in my various admin roles Confused

Notquiteagandt · 09/08/2018 20:09

Tinhead 😍 think he was most the girls 1st crush with Jennifer Ellisons Emily for the boys.

Jimmy Corkhill's double denim. Oh dear!

I remember the irish family. Murrey family? Who used to switch between northern and southern irish accents as they felt; used to wind me up. And their son killed Imelda the bully in a pond.

I grew up watching brookside and a girl in my class was in it. A friends sister in law was also a fairly major part in it.

imsconequeen · 09/08/2018 20:11

Jackie diccccckkkkkkkoooh!

imsconequeen · 09/08/2018 20:11

And tinhead! X

ThinksTwice · 09/08/2018 20:13

They used to call police The Busies! Grin

woodhill · 09/08/2018 20:22

Yes Ant turned up in X factor

woodhill · 09/08/2018 20:23

Remember Ron blowing up the shops connecting his cooker
