Ooooh lovely! Cried my eyes out in the first series (weirdly much more than the books).

ISaySteadyOn · 06/07/2018 13:58

Doesn't stick to the book much is putting it mildly!

GoldenBuns · 06/07/2018 13:59

Ooh - that's a coincidence! DD is off sick from school at the moment and I have been rewatching the first series with her. I almost wish they had waited until the winter though, it is something to be watched with a blazing fire and candles.

GoldenBuns · 06/07/2018 14:00

Hmm - that made me sound like a pyromaniac Hmm

Racecardriver · 06/07/2018 14:09

Woooo!

tribpot · 06/07/2018 14:14

Trying to look forward to this but can only imagine by the end of the series, Gilbert will be a pirate, Marilla will have become the boss lady of a crime syndicate on Prince Edward Island and Anne will be running a nationwide chain of family planning clinics.

DidimusStench · 06/07/2018 15:12

Agreed @Goldenbuns. It’s very much Sunday evenings in Winter viewing

BrigitsBigKnickers · 06/07/2018 17:49

So excited about this! I binge watched the last series in May and happened to be on Netflix looking for something earlier and saw the second season pop up! I want to try and savour this series a bit more and ration it to once a week!

reallybadidea · 06/07/2018 19:24

On the third episode of the new series and not enjoying it nearly as much as the first one Sad

BrigitsBigKnickers · 09/07/2018 23:10

I just watched the first and was really disappointed - I thought that Anne was really over the top. I feel she was a bit more believable in the first series.

Labtest7 · 10/07/2018 14:29

I don't know why this couldn't have been a stand alone series, unrelated to LM Montgomery's books. It has nothing in common with them whatsoever, other than the character names, an orphan, and being set on Prince Edward Island. I didn't like the first series, so won't be watching the second. I did love the Kevin Sullivan series in the 80s.

I know it deviates from the books (a lot) but I love this. Probably because Amybeth McNulty is a dead ringer for dd2, so much so that the title credits bring a tear to my eye.

I think I'll probably be physically incapable of watching it once she leaves home GrinSad.

GoldenBuns · 10/07/2018 20:12

Really not enjoying it - haven't managed to get past the first ten minutes. That first scene with Anne conducting nature like an orchestra was utter cringe.

lynmilne65 · 10/07/2018 21:35

I can't get Netflix ☹️

I was overjoyed when I heard Netflix were making this but I’ve still not watched it due to being worried it will be shit compared to the book ?

Am I right?

GoldenBuns · 11/07/2018 12:28

MrStark - generally I enjoyed the first series - it's beautifully shot and the music is lovely. I had a few reservations though, as there were some major changes to the plot that I wasn't particularly happy about.

I have just tried the second series and was not impressed - it seems a bit over the top and the plot has gone completely off piste! I might try and pick it up again later.

I'd recommend giving the first series a try.

MrStarkIDontFeelSoGood · 11/07/2018 12:32

Major changes is the main worry, I’m afraid I’ll have “their version” of the characters stuck in my head instead of what they look like in mine

GoldenBuns · 11/07/2018 13:40

I know, MrStark, I'm feeling the need to reread the book!

Glendee · 11/07/2018 21:37

I really liked the first Anne with an E, Netflix series (and I did enjoy the books when I was younger and I loved the series; was it late 80s?). So thanks for letting me know second series is on.
I think this series is a much more realistic portrayal of what (and how hard) life could have been like at the time. I just love this Anne; the young actor and the writing capture her positivity and the sadness (of what she’s had to endure as an orphan) perfectly balanced, which I think was lacking before. Not so much saccharine and lovely sunsets.
I generally don’t mind reinterpretations of good works though whether it’s Greek myths, legends of King Arthur or whatever.

I'm on episode 11. It's not Anne of Green Gables - not even close. It's more like Anne of Thirteen Reasons Why at times. I'm enjoying it for what it is while simultaneously cursing it for destroying the story completely.

Very confusing.
