We finished it last night. We were watching one or two episodes a night, and each night it took me a good 20 minutes to readjust to Hall’s accent.

I watched cargo the other night , didn't rate it and I've watched a bit of evil genius which is a bit disturbing. We pretty much just watch Netflix now.

The accent isn't bad tbh. Far better than most. WAY better than Jax in Sons of Anarchy (but I'll forgive that Wink)

Writing and acting was fucking shocking, though.

IWantMyHatBack · 29/05/2018 00:55

Episode 6 now.

Oh god.. The acting..

I have issues with completing things so have to watch this pants series until the end now.

I've never seen Dexter and was only vaguely aware of the actor, so when I started watching this I thought, 'Oh, I didn't know he was English.' So it fooled me, but after DH told me he was American I found it stuck out more - it did sound a little stilted or forced in places, but then I'm looking out for it now. I wish DH hadn't told me!

Only up to the third episode, but my god, it is ridiculous! And also, as pp have said, it just doesn't feel 'English' at all. I've never known anyone play beer pong at a teenage party! And the gated estate concept feels odd here, though I'm sure they exist. But's it's watchable, so I'll stick with it.

I thought his accent was TERRIBLE! Really off putting.

The whole series was deeply flawed in many ways but I still binge watched! Grin

DP and I are enjoying watching Safe.

My issue isn't the accent, I think it's pretty good for an American as they usually go WAY too 'posh'. I take issue with the fact it's so obviously American written though and say things like 'assignment' instead of homework and 'sweater' instead of jumper, also that it's set around Manchester (all the city and station scenes) but everyone in it has a Southern accent. Bit annoying.

reallybadidea · 29/05/2018 17:23

I didn't think the accent was too bad - I think it's the acting and dialogue which is dire Grin The whole thing was just ludicrously badly plotted and totally unbelievable. I'm halfway through and it's 50:50 whether I'll make it to the end tbh.

youokayhun · 29/05/2018 17:24

I've only watched first episode yesterday (huge Harlan coben and Michael c hall fan) is as really looking forward to it but I couldn't stand the accent either!

NearLifeExperience · 30/05/2018 09:37

Ah, finished it last night. I enjoyed most of it because, whilst a bit crap, it was gripping and fast moving, not an ounce of flab. I liked the pantomime villain family, too.

But the last episode was pretty poor. Messy, jumping about all over the place to tie together loose ends. And the person that "dunnit"... how ridiculous.

Rainydaydog · 30/05/2018 09:52

I really enjoyed this despite it being a bit odd in parts. What pp say about it being originally set in America makes sense. You don't get exactly that set up here. We don't really have those gated communities in the same way. A lot of the characters make more sense when you think of them this way. The high school Queen Bee with her pool party and the small town detective, the Army buddy medic best friend. Even the way some of the characters were all high school friends.
Switching the location to the UK doesn't quite work and then having an American lead actor. Very strange.

Slartybartfast · 31/05/2018 10:40

I enjoyed it, thought Pete was odd, you would think that as an anaesthetist he would be posher.

Slartybartfast · 31/05/2018 10:41

oh and the police were dreadful in their search for Jenny

Slartybartfast · 31/05/2018 10:41

Did enjoy Jojo

StormcloakNord · 31/05/2018 10:42

I only found it weird as it wasn't that long ago I finished Dexter!
