Raahh my Dad was in the Royal Engineers in the war {Korean one}

Raahh · 03/05/2018 14:17

Told Grin. My Grandpa was in the Manchester regiment, mostly based in North Africa. He had loads of amazing stories from the war. Although, I'm not too sure how many he made up Grin.

Nooooooooo.

EnriqueTheRingBearingLizard · 03/05/2018 20:26

I'm not sure whether to stop worrying about James and start worrying about Jimmi, or to keep worrying about them both?

I liked Valerie's part today, quite moving really.

redshoeblueshoe · 03/05/2018 21:14

Enrique I think we should keep worrying about both of them.
I have only just caught up as today I had the joy of going to Rhyme Time.

toldmywrath · 03/05/2018 22:07

Raahh my Dad also did peace keeping in North Africa, Libya mainly. He barely talked about his experiences, I had to go all Spanish Inquisition on him, very late on in his life. My siblings were amazed when we prepared his eulogy they didn't know hardly any of it!

Raahh · 04/05/2018 07:13

Told funny you should mention Libya. We have a photo of my Grandpa in Libya . It used to be on their dressing table in the bed room. He was reading a local newspaper- which blew his cover a bit, if he was meant to be somewhere 'secret' Grin .

A typo just for youWink

My son is just coming to the end of a history degree and his first assignment was to write an essay about something historical or antique that family own. We don't have much like that but my husband has his Grandfather's medals from WW1. He died when my mother in law was a toddler and she knew very little about him but our son had to do a bit of online digging to write his essay and she's now got print outs of his war records and it turned out that he was at Gallipoli among other places and was also jailed for disprespecting an officer

toldmywrath · 04/05/2018 11:38

WowMadison that's a great piece of research by your son.

Raahh · 04/05/2018 12:22

My dad was in India in WW2 (but was a lifelong pacifist) and helped to repatriate British POWs held by the Japanese. He never talked about it.

My mum was in the Land Army.

NutButterNutter · 04/05/2018 13:45

That is a very uncomfortable way of lying
