Munich/Istanbul in play this week amongst other tournaments.

Madrid week beginning the 7th (hopefully with Delpo playing)

PrivateI have soft spot for Raonic too- and feel so sorry for him, because I really thought he was going to break through after 2016 (and in all honesty, Murray has a lot to thank him for. A few points the other way, in a few tournaments, and I don't think Murray would have won as much as he did that year).

And it's it funny you should say that about the 'underdog' thing. I've never been a Roger fan - have always found him pompous, I don't see the 'humble' thing that his fans go on about at all. It seems like a very well calculated act. But- when he was going through his 'less' good patch (which still included a couple of Wimbledon finals Grin) he did seem more human.

I was genuinely really pleased when it was a Rafa/Roger Aussie final. But when the media started fawning all over him last year, and it became all about him again, you could really see the 'old' Roger come back.

I think there are some players that you just don't warm to. For me, it's Roger, Andy (as a player-his constant muttering pisses me off) and Novak and randomly, Nishikori. Although I don't really have a really reason not to like Kei. I just don't Grin.

I always feel sorry for Kei and I don't know why.
I would like Roger to take me to dinner ( smooth and debonair), Novak to take me dancing ( good rhythm) and Rafa to take me.......Shock

( I don't have an ending to that sentence and have been dying to say it for ages but don't know anyone IRL who would understand or take it as a bit of (middle aged) fun Smile )

amiga forget the dinner and dancing I'll take option number 3 Grin
Roger is too smooth and Novak is too Novak.

PrivateParkin · 22/05/2018 14:56

Lol Amiga!! Grin I love it! Rafa definitely has a certain something - I'd be ditching options 1 and 2 as well I think!

Raahh · 22/05/2018 14:59

I was in Asda Grin the other day and 'Gypsy' by Shakira was playing.
That video Blush Can't imagine Novak in something like that- and certainly not Roger. Not without a cardigan.Grin.

Loving all the tennis nostalgia and naughtiness about Rafa Grin

Did you come over all unnecessary in Asda Raahh? Just thinking about that shakira video makes me hot under the collar.

Def no to Novak - he’d probably make you drink a green smoothie and do some strenuous Pilates. Grin at Roger and his cardi.

amigababy · 22/05/2018 15:13

Haha I do also love Shakira. If I were Rafa's girlfriend I would have had a cat's bum mouth at that video.
And Roger couldn't have done it. Mirka wouldn't have let him! Grin

amigababy · 22/05/2018 15:14

This is what happens when there's no tournament, we digress somewhat.
Normality will be resumed next week.

DramaAlpaca · 22/05/2018 16:12

Ooh, that Shakira video

I do love it when we lower the tone of the tennis thread Grin

PrivateParkin · 22/05/2018 16:22

I don't think I've seen the Shakira video?! But it sounds like something I need to see! [Goes off to check YouTube...]

amigababy · 22/05/2018 16:29

privateparkin let us know your verdict
Smile

JaneJeffer · 22/05/2018 16:39

Speaking of YouTube, Raahh I saw the clip of the singer who got the golden buzzer on BGT and guess what he lives with his nan Grin

I would also put Stan on my no dinner dance list!

PrivateParkin · 22/05/2018 17:49

Well I just watched the Shakira video! I can't believe I didn't even know of its existence until this thread! Rafa looks like he finds the whole thing hilarious/embarrassing throughout!

Raahh · 22/05/2018 18:09
Grin

He does look a little bit like he's thinking 'I hope Maria isn't watching' Grin

Bless him. Grin

And no, Mirka most definitely would not have Roger do such a thing. Grin.
We do go off on a tangent when there's no tennis to watch -not that that's a bad thing. Grin. I usually spend the 'off' season talking to myself Grin

Well today's conversation here has made me smile at the end of a crappy day.
That Shakira video is awesome, I can't believe I hadn't seen it before, but Rafa does seem like he's just trying not to laugh throughout Grin

Raahh · 23/05/2018 09:24

lady hope every thing is ok.

Dragging things back to tennis related matters Grin- Thiem did well in his first match in Lyon. Stan is due to play in Geneva today, but they have had rain delays.

Goffin and Shapovalov have withdrawn from there, so he might stand a chance. Would be a big boost if he could do well. Foggy is playing in Geneva though- so he could be a threat. Depending on which Fabio turns up. It's his 30th birthday tomorrow- he might want to celebrate Grin.

Now, I might just go back to watching Rafa videos...Grin

amigababy · 23/05/2018 12:29

Fabio makes me laugh, he is infuriating but I don't mind his antics. Unlike Kyrgios who i have a real problem with.

Raahh · 23/05/2018 12:44

Amiga I agree- too many excuses have been made for Kyrgios over the years. But I guarantee, they will still build him up at Wimbledon.

OP posts:
amigababy · 23/05/2018 13:05

I want to throw rotten tomatoes at the screen when he's on. Angry ( that's meant to be a tomato face)

ferrier · 23/05/2018 13:05

Haha! This is clearly where I should have been hanging out!
If you don't mind I'll just add to the detail by saying yes to Roger for dinner, maybe Stan to dance - he always seems so sweet and any, would be fun to see another side of him, but unfortunately I can't say who I would "take" as it would be far too outing 😅 But he has been mentioned on this thread!

PrivateParkin · 23/05/2018 13:09

Del Potro has been practising ahead of RG Smile

PrivateParkin · 23/05/2018 13:14

I don't mind Kyrgios. He's super talented - and I don't find his "antics" annoying - although I can see why people do.

The entry list for Wimbledon came out today. Murray is on it... I wonder whether we'll actually see him there though? It's really not that far off now and he hasn't played for almost a year. Really hope he can make it.
