Dawn is still boring, I catch fast forward or catch up on mn when she's on.

Rachel is cringy.

Seema and Stacy versus Tanya and Ester; they will never see each other's point of view. S&S do think they are better than everyone else. Tbf in some respects they probably are.

Tanya and Lauren have always been friends. I can see why Tanya would be annoyed about Seema's call to arms to start to support Lauren. S&S think themselves superior and lack empathy outside of their friendship group.

I know, just yawnsome isn’t it, sayatika?

People would either be gawking, filming it on their mobiles or trying desperately not to look.

DonDrapersOldFashioned · 10/10/2018 17:01

Sorry, that last bit was to 3cats

MiniCooperLover · 10/10/2018 18:38

Still trying to finish Ep3 and I'm cringing at how rude Tanya is being to Hannah because she's clearly got a massive chip on her shoulder for not doing well academically but the rudeness is hard to watch 😩

sayatika · 10/10/2018 19:04

I don't know if I've missed something but what is Hannah meant to have done wrong (apart from studied/trained to be a dentist)? I liked her comment to the yoga one along the lines of : "I'm proud of my 8 years of studying just as you are about being to put your leg behind your head". I hope these comments aren't scripted because they make me laugh. Another one was Dawn's comment about "you're good at bending and we're good at rounders" Grin

DonDrapersOldFashioned · 10/10/2018 19:25

Hannah is a bit of a goady fucker / stirrer (or rather, that’s the role the producers have given her). Everything was fine between Dawn & Tanya until Hannah asked goady questions about the Renz non-drama.

She is a bit of a twat about her qualifications and opportunities, of course she has every right to be proud of her achievements. However, she seems to have no awareness of the fact that she came from a position of privilege in the first place and that will have given her a head start and enabled her to access certain opportunities not available to your average Jo(Anna). Whereas Tanya came from a very average working class background and didn’t have the same educational and early financial opportunities & advantages as Hannah. I think that put Tanya’s nose out of joint in the first instance and that pretty much set the tone for the rest of it. All stirred up by the producers and dodgy ‘scripted reality’ of course.

Butterflycookie · 11/10/2018 03:41

“she seems to have no awareness of the fact that she came from a position of privilege in the first place and that will have given her a head start and enabled her to access certain opportunities not available to your average Jo(Anna).”

That’s not true, she did mention that she was lucky that her parents helped her. I don’t believe that you can’t do well academically if you’re from a poor background. All these housewives send their kids to private school and none of them seem partially bright yet they’re probably given more opportunities and more money than hana’s academic parents. All she did was explain at the dinner party who she was and what her parents did. The other housewives immediately didn’t like fact her parents were clever and that got their back up. Yet as I said, the housewives are giving their kids more than what hana was probably given by her parents in terms of money.

FabulouslyGlamorousFerret · 11/10/2018 09:15

Excellent point Butterfly ... the housewives kids have all had fab opportunities and not a dentist amongst them!!

DonDrapersOldFashioned · 11/10/2018 10:10

I didn’t say that you couldn’t do well if you are from a WC background but there have been countless social studies on the effects of social class on educational and life opportunities. It’s not pulled out of my arse.

When you get to the next generation, comparing Hannah with the older WAG/RHOC kids, it becomes a question of values in two very different types of household. Hannah’s family are wealthy middle class academics (her father is a professor from Wilmslow), kids growing up in that environment are given private education (like their WAG/self made kid peers) but they also come from homes where a traditional route and a traditional profession / high academia is more likely to be valued & respected and perhaps the weight of parental expectation is different. That’s not to say that you don’t need an innate level of intelligence for demanding courses such as medicine or dentistry.

The ‘WAG’ parents made their money through non traditional professions and so perhaps are less rigidly conditioned to the ‘old ways’, so to speak.

ALemonyPea · 11/10/2018 10:22

The whole Renz thing is stupid. I’ve watched RHOC from the start and never once have I heard Tanya calling Dawn Renz.

jemmysmum · 11/10/2018 10:30

Didn't really like the conversation between Dawn and Ash regarding his parents going to live with them. Surely it was discussed between them before that day anyway and also thought it should have been a private conversation and maybe just mentioned in the voice over. Not just used as a storyline to show that Dawn has a heart/soft side /not all bad!!

DonDrapersOldFashioned · 11/10/2018 10:41

Yes, that was all a bit grim, wasn’t it jemmysmum? I wonder about the ethics of showing footage of Ashley’s mum having ‘moments’ (like the dropping the cheese in the tea), tbh. Can she consent to that footage being shown? Who does it benefit? It is a show that generally is lighthearted and silly. Does showing Ashley’s mum and deterioration ‘normalise’ the realities of living with dementia or does it make a public spectacle of her? A way of making Dawn look big hearted and adding a heartwarming and possibly comedy moment. By ‘normalising’ I mean we don’t just see it on tv documentaries about dementia but we see people living with dementia on mainstream tv.

I can’t believe i’m getting this deep about bloody RHOC Hmm

MarthasGinYard · 11/10/2018 11:53

Agree Jemmy

diamondsandrose · 11/10/2018 16:09

Great point re Ashley's wee mum

Annoyed now when I think about Dawn using it to try and show herself in a good light. She's a hard faced bully most of the time. Sinitta anyone?! Wink

diamondsandrose · 11/10/2018 16:13

And Don also great point regarding differing background of similarly private schooled pupils.

Hanna I must say is a bit TOO confident for my liking. She lacks the social skills to know when to dial it down when meeting a group of older, more worldly woman and who are in addition established friends with history.

Too much education and not enough life experience , plus overconfidence. Not an endearing combination

uselesstwonk · 11/10/2018 17:06

I think Hannah is getting a hard time from the others. The cynical me wonders if it's contrived by the producers to cause more rifts between Dawn and the rest of the cast so we can have more fights as apart from the voicemail thingy, it wasn't too bad last season Grin Hard work and achievements should be celebrated imo, whatever your background. Hannah has been introduced to the group because she is confident. I doubt anyone who isn't would last a season otherwise. Perla is pretty confident and opinionated too and by all accounts has achieved a lot as well, but Tanya & co don't seem to have a problem with her despite her claims that she often has to deal with jealousy from wives towards yoga husbands that she teaches.

Are they really established friends? I get the impression they mostly can't stand each other and only see each other for filming and photo shoots.

Ihopeyourcakeisshit · 11/10/2018 17:22

I couldn't quite pinpoint what I don't like about Hannah, but diamond's summary is spot on.

MiniCooperLover · 11/10/2018 21:43

Hannah's confidence (I don't like saying someone is over confident) may well be as a result of her education and upbringing but I don't feel she should have to hold herself back or apologise for it, just because the majority of the table only have money because they married it.

I did find the section with Dawn's in-laws a little odd (Ashley walked in halfway through the meal or was that just how it looked?). I wondered though if they did it because with the parents moving in they may be around more? It did seem a bit unnecessary but equally it was nice to see she clearly does care for her in-laws.

diamondsandrose · 12/10/2018 01:33

Perla is likeable though which is the key.

Hanna is just good old annoying in my opinion and I stand by my point of she has just got too much to say and not a nice way of saying it. She's too young and hasn't learnt enough life lessons yet. Some self deprecation wouldn't go amiss either.

She's not a wife or mother which sets her apart from the others. Odd choice by the producers. And I don't think she's as posh as she'd like you to think either! She talks like a fishwife
At least Tanya knows she's common and doesn't give a shit

TechnicalSergeantGarp · 12/10/2018 07:51

Diamond too much to say and not a nice way of saying it love this.

Is is true, is it necessary, is it kind? None of these shows would exist of this advice was followed. Hanna has jumped in and mistaken confidence with voicing a ignorant opinion forcefully. She knows nothing about dynamics and history and demonstrating how not to join a group. Are 'her night' she was annoyed she wasnt centre if attention and so went fri Tanya over Dawn ( limelight vampire). She was keen to get on Dawn's good side (she doesn't have one), and so sided with her. Dawn spouts shite and if someone dares to disagree she tells them to shut up.and walks away. Her and Rachel have been good friends. The minute Rachel disagreed with her she accused her of being drunk.

MarthasGinYard · 12/10/2018 07:58

'And I don't think she's as posh as she'd like you to think either! '

Thought this from day one.

She certainly doesn't come across as coming from a wealthy understatedly educated background.

She's quite 'in yer face'

MarthasGinYard · 12/10/2018 07:59

I am loving Dawns perpetually offended look.

Hope they do a montage of them at the reunion

DonDrapersOldFashioned · 12/10/2018 09:18

This is Hannah’s dad, she comes from academic stock. As for her accent, she has a Northern accent because she is a Northerner living in the North. Just because she doesn’t speak with a fake RP accent (like Lauren) doesn’t mean she isn’t well to do.

DonDrapersOldFashioned · 12/10/2018 09:21

(I do agree that she is a PITA though)

MarthasGinYard · 12/10/2018 09:43

Lauren sounds like a confused brummy to me Grin

DonDrapersOldFashioned · 12/10/2018 10:41

Lauren’s fake accent is attrocious
