Only just discovered this joy of a programme. Dh and I are addicted. We wurled through season 1 and are half way through season 2. Snug warm English charm is how I might describe it. Anyone else liked It?

Every time I look in my heated bathroom mirror (so twice a day) I think 'warm reflection?'.

girlwhowearsglasses · 19/01/2018 17:22

DS was analysing the humour in the car the other day. He went into great detail about why ‘there’s a piece of bread on the skylight’ is funny.

It’s the best

My in-laws got the box set for Christmas (they don’t do Netflix). They have raved about it and I’ve been meaning to watch it myself. P’raps I’ll persuade dh, ds and dd to start watching it tonight.

I found this recently on Netflix and I love it. It has got me through a grim time. So funny and whimsical.

Totally outing but it is filmed in Framlingham near my parents so I get excited when I recognise lots of places. My Dad has been a detectorist. I went to a shop selling detectors once and it was amazing. The names of the machine were great - Coin Shooter being my favourite.

ohhereweareagain · 19/01/2018 18:01

I could see myself getting into metal detecting. I'm a dealer so spend a lot of the time scouring the country for gems although in a very different way plus I don't do jewels 😊. I bet lots of people got into it after this show. Did anyone notice randomly at the end of the credits in an episode towards the end of season 2 a fox sniffing around the two Detectorists pretending to be asleep in deckchairs? The fox looked to be a genuine wild fox. We recon they slipped this in as it was a fab out take. The fox must have wandered into view when they were shooting the two asleep in deck chairs when they were supposed to be on look out. I dont usually watch the credits so a bit of luck we happened to see it

I've been watching it from the beginning and loved it.

EnidButton · 20/01/2018 01:47

It's gorgeous. It's so very cleverly written and paced. Mackenzie Crook is a genius. It's even beautiful to look at.

The first episode of series 3 has a bit in it that was one of the best things I've ever watched on tv. Really moving. (You'll know which bit if you've seen it)

The scene with Lance and Sheila say in the beer garden at the pub had me weeping. Hardly anything is said but you realise so much and understand why she has those odd little quirks and is how she is.

It's so bloody well done I could go on about it for ages. Grin

It’s a beautiful programme!

Madbengalmum · 21/01/2018 16:30

It is addictive, only discovered it over Christmas but had to watch all of it at once. Lovely programme, shame its over.

AnyFucker · 21/01/2018 16:31

BikeRunSki · 21/01/2018 17:25

We finished Series 3 last night.
It was a lovely ending, but I am bereft.

jay95 · 21/01/2018 17:43

It's great. Totally original. Can't we get MC to write another series? I think he's going to be writing again for TV, but something different.

BoreOfWhabylon · 21/01/2018 19:25

I particularly liked the genetic memory of magpies

BoreOf thanks for posting that. dh & i were blown away/mesmerized when that scene came on & the music, f**king stunning. we just finished the last episode of season 3 (about ten minutes ago). ridiculous but it has left a real sadness as i miss it already. it has helped keep the misery of january blues at bay as i have looked forward to watching an episode or two at the end of each day the last few weeks. I can't remember the last time i watched something so perfect (music, scenery, characters, clever writing etc etc...). McKensie Crook is a bloody genius

Ohhereweare DH and I have been doing the same and we finished last night. You have summed up our feelings perfectly.

NashvilleQueen · 21/01/2018 20:28

Every character is perfectly formed. Lots of little running jokes which run through (eh Sheila and her lemonade). I’m pretty certain he is stopping now which I understand but honestly I could watch the forever.

ohhereweareagain · 21/01/2018 20:29

i just bought the dvd set (all three seasons) on ebay so i can re-watch immediately Grin although not with dh as he isn't as morose as me. i told him to find something to replace it but it's gonna be a tough act to follow. I love the old fashioned style (no sex/drugs), just normal be it eccentric every day type people who are all loveable. my only moan (and i'll be careful what i type as not everyone has see all of it so i don't want to deliver a SPOILER) was that i wanted a close up at the end rather than a far away shot, if that makes sense, as i wanted to see their faces.

Big fans in our house too. I actually welled up when they found the 'thing' in the last episode of S2 when you think they're not going to.
Such gentle comedy and genuinely likeable characters. We watched them all in December, usually with a Bailey's and slab of Christmas cake in hand and I really miss it now!

BoreOfWhabylon · 21/01/2018 20:36

ohhereweareagain You can listen to the full version of the song if you click the link I gave and then, in the bit down the right hand side, click The Unthanks, Magpie on Jules Holland - it's worth it!

Another musical memory - lovely Johnny Flynn!

My all time favourite comedy moment is the first time we see Sheila serve her lemonade. The reactions were so funny.

I wish other writers would learn the art of understatement and that the viewer can work out what a carefully penned character is thinking without having it spelt out to us. Less is more!

Fridayfun · 21/01/2018 23:20

We absolutely love it. We've watched them all but might rewatch again later in the year. It's so well written and beautifully shot.

icetip · 22/01/2018 11:43

Truly delightful. Everything about it was a joy. A celebration of the simple things. Last little unspoken exchange between Terry and Sheila was beautiful.

FellOutOfBed2wice · 22/01/2018 11:47

I LOVE this. Cried buckets in the Christmas special and the theme tune brings a bit of a lump to my throat as well.... “I felt the touch of the kings and the breath of the wind
I knew the call of all the song birds
They sang all the wrong words...I will be your treasure. I’m waiting for you. I’m waiting for you...”

GeekyBlinders · 22/01/2018 20:31

Enid yes to that sad sad scene. I watched it with DP, got all choked up and he didn't even realise what was going on! Went completely over his head.
