Katie, mother of Jawziff, not blank faced Kate.

southeastdweller · 29/04/2018 20:00

The actor who used to play the Nasir granddad is the one who said that about the Katie actress. He also said in the interview that his on screen wife is a scrounger and that (surprise surprise) Antony Cotton is a diva.

eddiemairswife · 29/04/2018 20:01

Adam Rickett was also on David Cameron's A list of prospective Conservative candidates.

Yorkshirebetty · 30/04/2018 13:36

Georgia May Foote has completely denied it, as have the Corrie producers.

kikashi · 30/04/2018 17:11

I wish Adam Rickitt had come back as NIck - he looked more like the right age and more like Sarah's brother than Ben Price did (or the other guy who played Nick very briefly).

Some papers had a spoiler a few days ago that Michael (Les Dennis) was going to "visit" Phelan at Xmas - I thought oh no - they are going to do a Scrooge type Xmas episode but apparently they are appearing in panto together, not Corrie related at all really. Phelan's next big/long appearances are apparently during BGT semi/finals week to help deliver BGT an audience I suppose.

Housewife2010 · 01/05/2018 06:36

It's been announced on the CS site that Aidan will commit suicide.

FabulouslyGlamorousFerret · 01/05/2018 07:05

It's been on GMB too ... what a shock, I wouldn't have see that coming

Housewife2010 · 01/05/2018 07:10

It should be retitled Misery Street.

kikashi · 01/05/2018 08:31

Was Aidan (Shane Ward) axed or did he want to leave? I think he has really improved on the show and wouldn't be someone I would axe given the paucity of other okay actors amongst the under 40's. If he was axed was it because Carla came back and they didn't want 2 bosses at the factory? Although that could have provided story lines.

4forksake · 01/05/2018 09:09

I really don't understand the Shane Ward suicide storyline. I understand trying to highlight men's mental health (& MH in general) & I also understand so many people sadly hide behind their MH issues, but surely in a soap they should be highlighting that Aidan is fine in front of people & struggling behind closed doors over a period of time. The suicide story is next week & I don't remember seeing any issues with him (apart from struggling with the donation) so unless they're going to explore issues after the event, it just seems a rushed story for something so very sensitive.

4forksake · 01/05/2018 12:09

So according to This Morning, the whole Aidan storyline is a way for David to open up about his tape cos he doesn't want to have the same thing happen as happened to Aiden. Apparently the Corrie boss (who's just left) wanted to have David take his own life but it wasn't agreed so that's why it's aiden!

redshoeblueshoe · 01/05/2018 12:41

4for that makes sense. When I heard probably on here that there was going to be a suicide I assumed it was David. I did think Aiden and Eva were going to skip off into the sunset.

kateandme · 01/05/2018 12:54

I haven't seen aiden hide any symptoms.its a mockery of life and suicide if they do this on the wim because another character wasn't allowed to be killed off.its shows a total piss take on what they "say" they are tryging to highlight.
I'm aware its said men take a more sudden approach often to suicidal thoughts but this...out of nowhere.really!

southeastdweller · 01/05/2018 13:10

I think that’s crap about Kate Oates wanting to get rid of David, someone with many links to the street and he’s been there almost 30 years.

HouseOfMouse · 01/05/2018 14:30

I have mixed feelings about this Aidan exit storyline. If done well, it could be good, but maybe (being cynical) it is just a headline grab. They did do an attempted suicide storyline not that long ago (Adam) which blew over very quickly. And some of the other "serious" storylines have had very shallow treatment and then been completely forgotten about 5 minutes later (e.g. Seb's HIV, Ken's stroke, Johnny's MS, Robert's cancer, Carla's kidney transplant, Rita's brain tumour).

IHaveBrilloHair · 01/05/2018 14:47

I like Aiden so think it's crap he's being killed off in probably a stupidly rushed storyline.

lovemylover · 01/05/2018 14:57

Also read today that Peter is going back to Carla, after he finds out about Toyah and Evas plan with the baby, but Eva decides to keep the baby anyway
Will be sorry to see Aidan go though, rather it was David

4forksake · 01/05/2018 14:58

I agree House. If they did it well & did justice to the sensitive subject it could be well done but I think it's too late for that. I think to have done this they should've started showing Aiden having issues when alone & being ok & happy when around others. I know people might not be aware of why others choose suicide but I'm fairly certain in the majority of cases they've had issues which have built up until they believe there's no other way but to end their lives. I don't think it's usually a spur of the moment decision (ie no build up - I know often others aren't aware of the individuals turmoil). Hopefully, however the story is portrayed, it helps others to see there is a way out of their situation rather than suicide. I live in a village where 2 people I know have lost their mum & son (2 different families) to suicide & one of them has a large charity dedicated to MH. Will be interesting to see what they think of the storyline.

kikashi · 01/05/2018 15:09

I'm glad it's not David - surprised they thought about axing him - he is one of the better characters (if often unlikable) and has a big fan base. The Platt family is increasingly central to the main plot lines.

I know Shona turns detective after David confides in her and tracks down a previous Josh victim - so perhaps Josh will get his comeuppance relatively soon. Will David have to serve time for his assault on Gary? I know he goes awol from court.

I suppose if Aidan commits suicide then Carla and Johnny will run the factory. Jenny will feel left out of the family grief and sad about Spain and Johnny will turn to Liz - Mick will leave but the dreadful Jim McDonald will return to throw a spanner in the works, "so he will". The writers may even remember that Johnny has MS.

We could end up with a Carla/Peter/Leanne triangle again (zzz). Leanne supports Peter over the Toyah debacle, they need to help Simon together but Carla and Peter bond over their craving for booze in the aftermath of Aidan's suicide and the Toyah baby reveal.

Do we think Phelan will steal Nicola's baby?

4forksake · 01/05/2018 16:03

I'm sure the Pheona storyline is meant to come to a head (for the trillionth time) next week just in time for the soap awards (& presumably hence the timing for the Aiden storyline). When's Nicolas baby due?

BlueBirdsOverDover · 01/05/2018 16:16

Just found this thread!

I was so shocked that they'd chosen Aidan for a suicide storyline.

I've been in the position where I've been so low that all I could think about was killing myself I was that unhappy but at the same time, I'm a very logical and through all the ups and downs, I KNEW the lows wouldn't last forever even if it didn't FEEL like it.

I don't know if that makes any sense and I hope I've not offended anyone with my thoughts on it but it's how I saved my life. I truly know not everyone can do that but they seemed to have to have portrayed Aidan as an intelligent and logical thinking character.

It's supposed to happen next Wednesday (9th) so it's not a lot of time before hand to 'prep' his behaviour.
I'm glad they're not showing any of the actual suicide scenes on TV though, think that would have been too much for this show!

I also hope Jenny shines through for Johnny and doesn't go on about Spain!

4forksake · 01/05/2018 16:21

So sorry to hear that Bluebirds & very glad to hear you were able to see a way out of the depths of despair. That's where I feel they'd have been better focussing this story. They've built up Craig's OCD for months & while I don't want to belittle anyone's struggles with OCD, I think that went on & on. Then Aidens storyline has come as a bolt out of the blue. Even David's storyline had some build up to it. It seems like a total afterthought & I'm not sure how they'll be able to make it any less so. I hope I'm wrong.

MillieMoon94 · 01/05/2018 17:39

Am I the only one who wasn’t hugely surprised about Aidan’s exit? The signs have been there for ages in the way he’s been behaving when alone. You can pretty much trace it back to hi failed wedding to Eva. I think it’s great that they’re highlighting the issue, although equally I understand it certainly won’t be to everyone’s taste and some might prefer not to watch it.

GreedyVegan · 01/05/2018 18:43

So is Eva going to hand the baby over then change her mind?

kikashi · 01/05/2018 18:43

Perhaps he was posting his will the day ages ago that he looked all shifty at the post box.
