Did anyone watch it? Couldn't find a thread.

Chilling premise. Too violent for me but will still watch. Thought it was well acted.

Trying to think how I would react if I'd seen what was on the flash drive....

Me @MajesticWhine. I don't have player. Has there been spoilers upthread (avoid looking!!).

Maybe we need a watching weekly thread (though it might just be the two of us!!)

EnidButton · 14/01/2018 14:47

Maybe the thread title should be changed to include "spoiler free" or "TV weekly pace" if that's what the thread is. Otherwise, as all episodes are available now, people are going to discuss them.

That's how they do it on Digital Spy and it works well.

phlebasconsidered · 15/01/2018 06:37

I enjoyed it. Bit confused in parts. Also, Daniel says Renkos rapist said "I know why you're here, it's upstairs" implying he either has something to do with Hard sun or the policeman shooting? I think the chief is responsible for the shooting.

I think it deserves another series.

colouringinagain · 15/01/2018 17:58

Yes I'd like to see how the scenario and characters would pan out in another series...

ToffeeUp · 15/01/2018 18:05

I watched all episodes and it grew on me. It had quite few unexpected twists and turns and I expect it will be a while before all the puzzle pieces fall into place.

StripySocksAndDocs · 15/01/2018 18:12

I've created a watching weekly thread:

www.mumsnet.com/Talk/telly_addicts/3140505-Hard-Sun-NO-SPOILER-thread-for-those-watching-weekly

So those that have seem them all can discuss here without being told off!!!

Slightly concerned it'll end up just me on it though Grin.

Frazzled2207 · 16/01/2018 20:14

I've watched it all now. I still don't get why butler had to die (not a spoiler as it was clear in ep1). Can someone explain?

And that whole diversion about the psycho and the suicides in the last episode was exactly that wasn't it? Not connected at all to the main plot?

BitOutOfPractice · 16/01/2018 20:20

I've only watched ep 1 but I thought the acting was AWFUL from both of the leads

How does Jim Sturgess keep getting these BBC leads? He was awful in Close to the Enemy too. And Agyness Deynshould've stuck to modelling.

And the laboured script? Dreadful. Agyness whispering into a dictaphone has got to be the clunkiest ever way of letting us know what she's thinking!

Awful. And gratuitous violence thrown in for good measure

irishe · 21/01/2018 01:10

Liked this a lot. Bit of end of the world worry, bit of spooks, bit of regular cop stuff. I know what pp mean about not knowing what it was but I liked the mash up.
I particularly liked that Agyness Deyn was physically kick ass and took no prisoners in fights! Call me shallow but it made a change.

LightastheBreeze · 21/01/2018 20:52

I’m enjoying this, I was watching weekly but am now on episode 5. Some of it is a bit mumbly but a lot of programmes are nowadays, though it could be me getting a bit deaf in my old age

Dulra · 03/02/2018 22:26

I'm still watching week to week think it's fantastic. Agness deyne is doing fab

octonaught · 04/02/2018 20:16

ok, I'm only up to episode 2, so i'm not going to RTFT until I have finished,
However it is a bit gory, so i am going to pace myself.
Will be back to discuss

CruCru · 06/02/2018 14:44

I like this a lot. However, it is irritating that Agyness's character keeps getting the most ferocious kicking or beating and never seems to lose teeth or get her face mangled. I know it's only telly.

SoupDragon · 11/02/2018 06:21

Was anyone else left feeling a bit cheated by the ending? It just seemed like they got bored with it and decided to stop.

BananaFronkle · 11/02/2018 11:05

Yes SoupDragon The final scene I thought we'd get to in about episode 2! I think it is open for another series, but as PP says, could the BBC do credible crowd panic scenes etc.

I agree with others that it wasn't sure what it wanted to be. The weekly murders weren't given enough time so they seemed like gory diversions and the main plot was barely developed in the 6 episodes.

I really wanted to like Agyness Deyn. I think she has a screen presence and one of those faces you don't tire of looking at, but her line delivery but pretty clunky. But loved that she was kick ass though, and as she went into a fight, you didn't fear for her. (Reminded me of The Power, in a way!)

Why did Hicks kill his friend/partner? Was he abusive?

SoupDragon · 11/02/2018 16:11

I didn’t quite understand the Hicks thing. I thought he was killed to prevent shame for something he had done... I need to rewatch the sequence where they are talking on the bridge and listen properly.

It seemed to be two shows glued together - the solar flare story and a series of unconnected murders. Three shows if you count the Hicks investigation. It made no sense. The sun story didn’t really go anywhere (other than the “extinction level event” at the end), the murders were unconnected (I’d originally thought they were going to show the breakdown of society in view of the sun thing but no)

I loved the way they managed to stitch up Grace though. Nicely done!

SoupDragon · 11/02/2018 16:16

Agyness Deyn was a big surprise actually. I’m not sure if any clunkiness was due to her character and what the director wants, I don’t think any of the acting was slick. I also loved how she was kick ass and strong

futuristic1 · 11/02/2018 19:22

I loved it. Never known a show to sustain tension so effectively through every episode.
Just a shame there are no more to come... yet... Hard Sun is coming...

More episodes - quickly please!!!!

goldenlilliesdaffodillies · 11/02/2018 22:27

It was quite gripping (although I didn't like the sickening, graphic violence). The end felt like a huge disappointment- I felt like "oh is that it then"?

Is there going to be another series continuing the count down?

futuristic1 · 12/02/2018 15:10

I've read that the writer has a 5 series vision - and knows the ending - I guess to cover the 5 years until the Hard Sun event.

I hope they make it.

CruCru · 13/02/2018 13:58

I'd had the impression that the main female character had high functioning autism - I think it was referred to in the first episode.

CruCru · 20/11/2018 13:21

I know this is an old thread. I’ve just found out that there’s not going to be another series and am quite disappointed.

Daysofpearlyspencer · 21/11/2018 18:56

Apparently the writer was planning several more series but reviews and viewing figures were so bad the BBC cancelled it.

CruCru · 22/11/2018 16:44

It’s a real shame. What else are they going to make, Holby City and Strictly Come Dancing?

Daysofpearlyspencer · 22/11/2018 19:29

Indeed! Currently watching The Sinner on Netflix, really good, if you don't have Netflix I think you can get a months free trial
